Milk in Bags

No kidding! There was a comment on that youtube video from an Albertan who said something like, "Never in my 25 yrs in Alberta have I ever seen milk in a bag!"

I obviously dated myself, LOL!

You know, I grew up in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, and I remember milk in a bag. We had it for a while. Course, nothing beat the fresh milk we got from our neighbour. All that thick cream on top..yum.

Either you can't get it any more, or I just wasn't in the habit of buying it, but I don't recall seeing it in stores when I was on my own. Just bought it in just regular cartons...Now I buy it in plastic jugs here.

Hmmmm I don't think I've seen it in cartons here. I sure miss Dairyland and Island Farms though....

I miss milk in a bag - it was fresher since I only opened 1 bag at a time and not the whole gallon. If you left the container with the bag on the counter oh well, you had other bags in the fridge...but if you leave the gallon on the counter,,,it's ALL gone :( The kids do that on occasion

I never understood the bag thing. In Australia we had a milk man bring little bottles of milk to our door, in Canada I worked at a convience store and had to always unload the milk bags and it was such a pain in the ####. Bags don't slide in the coolers, you can't easily just push the one in front forward when stocking the new milk like you can with the carton. Same as with . Even at home it was horrible. Finding room for big bags in the fridge. Then having to get scissors then puttitng the bag in some holder then cutting it etc. No wonder the rest of the world things it's stupid. You buy carton, open it up and ta-da, so much nicer and easier.

Who ever invented the bag thing clearly wasn't from earth...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

I remember the first time I visited Mathew I got up early one morning to make him breakfast for his birthday and stomped into the bedroom, furious, telling him he was gonna have to get up and go get milk because HE forgot it. He giggled at me, took me to the fridge and pointed at the bag that held the milk. I was totally freaked out and had no clue that you had to put the bag in the jug thing or it wouldn't pour right. Took me a good 10 minutes of looking at it and poking it before I finally was able to use it.

Darn milk in bags...it DOES taste fresher though when you open the bag for the first time.

I just can't believe anyone would have ever thought to put milk in bags in the first place.

I didnt' taste any difference. The bag just seemed like more of a hassle to me than anything.

I can remember when I was an exchange student in Mexico when I was in junior high. The first day I arrived, one of the kids took me to the store and we were going to buy a coke and some candy. Well, the store clerk asks me "quieres en botella o en bolsa" (do you want your coke in a bottle, or a bag). I couldn't stop my self from asking ####### was up with that, seemed so strange. Seems there, the glass bottle was more valuable than the contents inside. So they would pour a coke into a plastic bag and put a straw in it.

 Milk in a bag okay but soft drinks...don't think so.

I was going to say "coke in a bag' but somehow it just didn't sound right...or legal.

They do this in Asia too - it's a great idea!

capri sun comes in bags... sorta... space juice yum.

I'm lactose intolerant so I had to buy it in cartons because lactose free milk didn't come in bags anywhere around me.

Donne moi une poptart!

I like capri sun, but I HATE those pouches that they come in. Half the time, when I poke the straw in, it goes all the way through. So my options are either spill a little on myself, or cut the top off and pour it into a glass.

Ugh I know right?! And those kool-aid jammer things. I love them but I always seem to mess up when poking the straw in!

I don't miss the milk bag system for one reason. I would always cut the holes too big and it would be impossible to pour, and I would get it everywhere. Or, I would over compensate and cut it to small and the milk would come out in a slow trickle! But I said this before

Here we get our milk delivered to the door by a milk man, so freshness really isn't an issue.

I grew up in Alberta and remember milk being in a bag for much of my childhood. It changed to cartons at some point and when I moved to Ontario I thought they were so out of date to still have milk in bags!!!

The only thing I really HATED with bagged milk was that they were so suseptible to leaking. I know cartons leak now and then, but it seemed to happen more with the bags then cartons.

Nothing beats **!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I found milk in a bag fresher as well. I could open just one bag at a time, freeze the other two and then when the first bag was getting low, just pop a frozen bag into the fridge and it was thawed by the time I needed it. Here, the milk is sold with about 8 to 10 days time left before it expires and it doesn't always last to its expiry date - and never lasts beyond it. I end up throwing away so much milk that has gone sour that it is ridiculous. It doesn't matter if it is in a carton or in a plastic jug. My husband will drink milk for about a week after it is opened. He says he can taste it going off after that and won't drink it. I guess I could buy it in the half gallon instead of the gallon but it is more expensive and tends to go sour even faster in the cartons. Oh, I want bagged milk back - I never had a problem with it going sour.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
