It's also obvious there's some people who are just making a pretty penny from stopping this movement.

Green is about manufactering stuff that producess less hazardous byproducts as a result of making the product. So, it goes both ways. More toxic waste would equal more costly to dispose, and also detrimental to the environment. Green jobs just reduces those byproducts.

Many people are not aware of the toxic metals in electronic components. Now, they have the RoHS electronic components that carry less metals. I could go on and on. The problem is people who make decision as "people who support this movement are making a pretty penny" has low ambitions to learn.

Yes, you're absolutely right, but I certainly don't buy every product that says "green" on it exclusively, living a sustainable life has far more benefits for me than just buying anything that says "green" on it. I always attempt to support local manufacturers/growers first, so even if a product is made abroad "greenwise" I'd rather support a local business first (of course making sure they grow/manufacture what I'm buying in a sustainable fashion).

Seriously BY? A thread about green jobs you feel the need to stray off on a tangent to talk about your racial theories?

I know, I thought about sending him a PM but it's honestly legitimate question regarding work ethics and prosperity. If Indians with who used to earn less than $1,000 a year can make it, what excuse do certain others have?

You could start a new thread for sure. The problem is that majority still thinks "everyone's the same". I say BS.

The reason I ask is because I was driving through the ghetto the other day and unfortunately needed to stop at a gas station. The owner was Indian so it got me thinking.

I had a cultural anthropology professor who actually addressed that. He started that lecture off the prior week by asking everyone, over the weekend, to pay attention to the homeless they see in the streets, and what race they are. The following monday, he asked, how many people saw a "hispanic" homeless person. Nobody raised their hands. The reason? Cultural norms. The same reason you see a common path among Indian immigrants.

I have to ask you this question relating to jobs.. Why do you think that Indians are able to migrate here, land jobs, start legitimate businesses and build wealth, yet so many in ghettos are not able to change squat? Evidently, some cannot even put trash into a rubbish bin.

Because the American dream is dead

People are pathetic, they make excuses.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Right. And that 'common path' serves them well. Go by any Hindu temple during the holy season and 1/2 the cars in the lot will be lux brands. Their owners, more often than not, have no knowledge of popular American culture and only halting English. Y'all may make fun of Appu for running a 7-11 or giving his whole life to fixing an underperforming Econolodge, but he does well for himself and his family. Very well.

But forget all that. Let's whine about green jobs and the lack of upward mobility (for the lazy) instead.

I agree, yay!

I think NB made some excellent points as well.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I agree with you that certain nationalities make more of their surroundings in general by using their educated brains and hands, that's awesome. I also don't look down on people who don't, because I see that they have been living exactly like that for centuries, perhaps it's who they are and nobody should be guilted into feeling responsible for their state of living, just the way things are. I have great respect for people who live a simple, sustainable life as I also don't measure my success in life by material wealth, it's about family and friends and being healthy and happy, not about owning the latest gadget, that's why I don't believe in giving free handouts to Anyone, it will make no difference only enable.

We had green jobs in the late 70's and early 80's, they did work, but not in the way expected. Force to cause the oil companies to reduce the price so what was done was no longer economically feasible. Carter was dumb enough to believe the world only had an eight year supply of oil left, when in fact, the oil companies only find enough reserve for eight years. What other industry do you know if that keeps track of stuff like this, an assured eight year supply. Do you have an eight year supply of milk in your home?

Really don't like this green name, hell, not even a green card is green, that really screwed me up when I first got started with immigration, what in the hell are you talking about? Green was always money and still is, maybe in this case wasted money, our state is sure supporting ethanol with our tax bucks. And a lot of vehicles on the streets are not even ethanol compatible, leads to some very expensive repairs. We can buy ethanol free gas here, but it costs 30 cents more per gallon, yet another screwing by our state.

We called this alternate energy sources, and the only way they will succeed is by being more economical than oil. And we certainly don't pay for oil or gas what it costs to be produced and distributed with a fair profit, we pay what the market will bear. And sure helps them to have an oil controlled congress.

What would really change things, is when their eight year reserve source runs out, but that may not happen for a long long time. Still lots of natural gas and methane left we can use, like a known 12,000 year supply.

Electric vehicles powered by wind and solar is the way to go I think (for now). We're buying the Nissan Leaf when it comes out later this year. Powered by our own on-site solar system and now looking into wind turbine generators too.

The reason I even ask is because like many migrants to Canada, Australia or the US, my folks moved to Aus in the 60's with little more than the clothes on their back and $10 to their name. Yet managed to build something for themselves and us kids. Chilling, pity, blaming others or breaking the law was simply not an option in my household, with the police being the last thing I feared.

Now, I am not saying everyone in the ghettos is lazy, however, one must ask why so many people come to America with nothing, and are able to build something for themselves. Yet folks residing in ghettos cannot even take care of their own area. Cannot pick up a paintbrush and take care of their house. Refuse to use schools that are provided for free to them, even with schools in ghettos now receiving more funding than schools in wealthier areas.

Fix that mess in attitude up and America will have millions of tax paying consumers, that are also functional members of society. The number of people simply chilling in ghettos during the day is bloody ridiculous. In 2010, I don't buy the 'I've been hard done by' for even a second. These folks have opportunities that many, including my parents, could have only dreamed of.

I don't think what you're saying is untrue or racist, it's an observation. My view is even more controversial I think, the problem to me is that you expect certain people to live up to a set western standard when it is (IMO) simply not in their blood. It's like expecting the Arabs to stop wearing their traditional clothes and adapt and integrate into the society they choose to live in and become Christian, asking an Italian to stop liking pasta or try and make my maltese dog to stop running in circles, some do, most don't and resist. The people you're talking about did not choose to be transplanted into this western society, see. Go to Africa and see how people there live, it's a simple and humble existence... just because they were born and living in America, this is my personal opinion, does not change their fundamental mindset.
