My fiance has her connect flight/layover in Tokyo and she's landing in about 2 hours. I just found out that the extra money I sent her for food and anything else she never got because of her parents. Should she worry about paying a fee of any kind in Tokyo ? I honestly have NO clue how much money she has on her right now. I don't even know what to do and have no way of contacting her until she lands...but that's if I can get through to her somehow through American Airlines.

There was no terminal fee for us when we went through Narita...

Congratulations on your reunion! Have a great life together

The basic concern right now is if she gets hungry while waiting for the connecting flight. It took me five hours in Hongkong International Airport before the next flight to LAX was good for boarding. I spent $ 9 (USD) for snacks. There is generally no other required fee at this point though.

Congratulations to you both.

No terminal fee at NRT.

I'm guessing she doesn't know about the yahoo cafe in NRT?

I don't think she has to pay airport fee in Tokyo. Our connecting flight was Narita and there was no fee at all. Congrats for your reunion and a new life together!

we had a layover in tokyo last jan 19 and yes no terminal fee needed there (at least for connecting flight anyways)... but, security has been tight so we had a security check twice (2nd one was the actual gate itself before boarding to the plane)... bought starbucks and they only accept credit cards or their japanese currency... im sure she's fine

She's not aware that there's a yahoo cafe though I hope she discovers it or some way to get online and message me. Geez I never knew how agonizing waiting for her to get here would be during the hours of her flight! :o

I guess it's 6 months of waiting piled up all at once. hehe

if it's a 12 hour layover, usually the airline will pay for a hotel. JAL is great about that.

If you want to send her money asap - use Western Union online (sorry, is huge fee for that ) to Narita-Tokyo -

then contact the airport, have her paged on the white courtesy phone, telling her to check her email for money info.

it's times like this, i'm fan of paypal, with a debit mastercard in her name, you can make instant transfer to an account.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Me and her family are just worried sick. She never called us during her 5 hour and 40 minute layover and now her plane has taken off for Chicago. I found out from her mom that she has 100 dollars on her. I'm still trying to figure out what to do. We can either wait this out or call authorities. It's a huge concern to me why she never called me on her layover. She had all kinds of time and she certainly has the money. She has US dollars on her cash. Maybe all the payment methods at Tokyo don't accept cash for using the internet or the phones? I don't know what to do. I tried calling the airline at the airport and they refused to tell me anything. Who should I call? What should I do?

Call AA and explain that you want to make sure your wife caught her connecting flight and if the flight is in route and expected to arrive on time. I don't expect they will give you specifics other than..."the seat is occupied" and the ETA. Knowing the seat is occupied might help you relax a bit? Are you an advantage member? If so, go straight to their reps. They are definitely more helpful.

Don't worry too much dude...your wife is pinay. This is no problem. (and) I am sure your wife met some nice lola's during the travel to help her along. I've seen it, they group up. No worries!

She may not have been able to call you if she was hoping to us a cellphone.

Japan has a different standard for cellphones so most (even worldphones) will not work there.

Before I left for the U.S. I put my prepaid phone on roaming (Globe). My husband received my text when we arrived at Narita, no problem (no terminal fees there, but ridiculous security procedures lol). Narita stores and restaurants accept US$ payments.

Hubby also sent me a scan of an AT&T phone card (he scratched the silver backing off for me so I can read the code), which I printed out and used to call him from one of the payphones at the Atlanta airport after we made it past customs.

If there is any place at that airport where she can get a phone card then I'd say that's your best bet to hear from her...

I'm sure she is ok...just hang in there.

I purchased a activated roaming sim card and loaded up some day before I departed but it didnt work in Narita at all.

My husband told me about the free internet cafe right up by the second floor but I didnt go there, instead, I went down to the admiral club and had some free sandwiches and drinks while waiting for my flight. LOL!
