Hello to all VJers!!!

My husband works for the military and we applied for my military ID, and along with it, is the tricare...now as a dependent I have an option to choose between base doctors or civilian doctors?

I will really appreciate your views about this especially from those people who work for the military or dependents who were also caught up in this options. Kindly specify the pros and cons of dealing with base doctors and civilian doctors.

Thanks in advance.

i dont think there's a diffrence between base doctors and civilian doctors my husband is stationed @ FT LEE VA and they dont really have a hospital here (that sucks) so we had no choice but to go to a civilian doctor now that im pregnant i always go to the doctor twice/once a month and since then we haven't pay any single penny :D

I'm the wife of an American Soldier;

I'm the hope that lives within him after storm clouded days.

The freedom from war that gives wings to his heart,

May they reach across the miles and bind our hearts together

against all that we must face in this world.

you should also choose between tricare prime or standard, you can google the difference between them.

here in MD we have an option to switch to JohnHopkins Military plans, my friends who are enrolled in JH likes the civilian dr's than here on base..

we are still on tricare prime and we have no complaints so far..

i believe active duty and their dependants are automatically enrolled in prime.

from my perspective, having dealt with both the military hospitals and the civilian side, the civilian side is a bit more organized and less waiting, but the prescriptions on the military side are free whereas the civilian side has a co-pay.

You can see a civilian doctor, but get your perscriptions filled at the military pharmacy. I used the military doctors for years and have now used civilian doctors for the past 13 years. Civilian doctors are superior by far.
