If most people are in the US, I would suggest meeting on the US side as people won't have to worry about border crossings. If Niagara Falls is selected, we could see if we could get a shelter in the State Park and have a picnic, that way people can bring what they like/need. Also, other meetups have had problems where restaurants were booked ahead and then tons of people no-showed leaving the organizer to pay out of pocket for the no-shows. Plus, with a large group, finding someplace to accomodate us might become an issue.

I live in a suburb of Buffalo and would consider having a BBQ at my house, kind of a potluck type of thing.

a shelter in a park would be a prime choice I'd say.

Hi Everyone,

Spoom-I think a poll is a great idea!

Umm..I'm not sure how to add one on this meetup message thread though..Or do I have to start a new thread to add such? :help:

I would definitely help to have a poll! And yes, one can certainly ask several questions on that too....

Looks like your vote so far is in the USA...Sounds good to me!

Nevertheless, hope you get your AP and your Green Card soon too!

Might I suggest a poll? You can ask multiple questions at once.

And yeah, I'd be up for a meetup, and I can't leave the country until I get my AP so it'd have to be in the US for me to be there (unless it's in May or thereafter as I'd be likely to have my AP by then).

Julez-I agree about the US side too....Less worry about crossing the border (lol..for those in the USA already anyways...)

I definitely like your idea about meeting at Niagara Falls State Park and for a pot-luck too!...

I didn't think about that option before....Glad you brought it up too! :star:

Great idea as a 'VJ field trip' too!

It is a great scenic outdoor place to meet in, and cost-wise and organization-wise it would be better too!

I agree about the no-shows...Not good that way either...And not fair for those who are organizing such.....

Certainly would work better for me too, especially if I'm bringing my family along (umm..does anyone else mind about this?)

As for your house, it's nice that you would offer such too. But that would be a big responsiblity on your end...

Are you sure you are up for that?....(concerned about your end of things here...that's all...though I don't mind houses either....)

Mike777-Likewise, I think a picnic shelter at a park is a prime choice too! :star:

Julez-Lol...Yet another reason for the winter to be over soon! VJ picnic in the park!...Something to look forward to in the spring/summer!

(lol...I don't think too many of us like picnics in the snow...too cold....)

If a park shelter is the place, best wait until June so the snow will all be melted!

Regardless, don't worry, we will find a place, time, setting, etc. to meet....

Let's make this VJ meetup into a reality!

Lol..My (Ant's) vote so far: Niagara Falls State Park (or any other park), USA side, pot-luck picnic, sometime in May/June....

By the way, would any of you have more information about parks and places like that in that area too?

What is your vote and/or thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc.?

I am not too familiar with the parks on the US side but I think that's a great idea. Choosing one with a sheltered area would accommodate bad weather as well.

Ant, I'm sure trailmix can give you guidance on setting up a poll. I think that's a good way to get a fix on everyone's preferences.

(Wyatt...I hope you don't mind that I borrowed this from your DC thread, as organization is not my strong point...thanks..)

I would like to get a meetup started in May...So that we can get something going asap.....

If not, maybe we can get something going for June...

Each person who is still interested in attending a NYS USA/ON Canada area get-together, reply in this thread with the following information:

1)Your VJ Username

2)Three (3) dates in May or June that you would prefer to get together on

3)ANY dates that you absolutely CANNOT get together on

4) Your preference (if any) of location.

5)A head count for your party (i.e.: you alone, or you with your spouse, or you with your family..)

Here is my reply...

1) Ant+D+BabyA

2) Any weekend in May or June is good for me...I'm pretty flexible here..;)

3) The weekend of mother's day, and the weekend of father's day...lol...

4) Niagara Falls State Park, Any State Park in Western NYS....I'm pretty flexible here too...;)

5) 3 (Ant, D, Baby A)....

Now it's your turn....:)

Let's make this meetup into a reality! :star:

Thanks for all your replies! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

I will defer to whatever everyone else decides.

Our visits back to Welland are usually last minute. My husband has three soccer teams on the go so it becomes difficult to be away for any weekend unless I want to go back and visit family :)

When the date has been set I'll see how our schedule is looking and hopefully we'll be able to join everyone :)
