I didn't realize OBX was from Welland until after I moved! Pretty ironic for sure. And yes, it is the home to the famous but now mostly useless Welland canal. Once and a while if I say I'm from Welland people know where it is just based on that landmark.

The smells like Western New York thing is a joke... mostly  I guess it started when we used to make all those trips between Fort Erie and the Buffalo Airport. The route to the airport down I-190 isn't exactly scenic with the falling in buildings and failing industrial areas. It just looks like it would be stinky? ahaha I don't really know! But now whenever we get off the plane in Buffalo or cross the border someone says, "yep, smells like western new york" Sorry to offend those who live there!!

I guess summer would work best for me, If I could make it at all. I would think July? good luck getting something together!

OBX- It's never too late!...;)

And yes, by all means, if you're back in the area for a meetup....You're welcomed to join in the fun...:)

By the way, what times/days of the year would work best for you? For example, summer, spring, a certain month of the year?

Welland...Isn't that where the Welland canal with the locks are?

Hugglebuggles- Wow...What a co-incidence that you and OBX are in the same town and situation..Did you both ever meet up before you both moved?

And likewise....It's never too late!...;)

And yes, by all means, if you're back in the area for a meetup....You're welcomed to join in the fun...:)

By the way, what times/days of the year would work best for you? For example, summer, spring, a certain month of the year?

Though I'm sure along the way you can spare some time meet some fellow VJers for some Timmys?...lol.....;)

Lol..I know what you mean about days back home packed with meeting people.....That happens to all of us....

It's like we all have to have some sort of visiting schedule or something...

I remember when I used to say.."I'll meet person X at this time, meet person Y at this time...", whenever I was in Toronto...

Lol..I still do that...Though it's gets a bit tricky as I have to schedule the baby in between....eat and change on the run..lol...whatever.....

Cool that you and your husband met at Darrien Lake!...Aww..that definitely holds a specil memory between the both of you....

If it smells like Western NY (though I'm not sure there is a smell around here..other than the smell of several inches of snow, Timmy's, and Bills/Sabre fans...lol..) then it probably is Western NY...lol....By the way, how exactly does Western NY smell like? Care to elaborate further?...lol....

I've been to Darrien Lake before too...(though it's not exactly in Buffalo, NY....about 20-30 mins away...)

Actually the last time me and my husband went...We went to see a Bryan Adams concert......

And boy, were there Canadians there too! Lol...Even though Bryan Adams yelled out to the crowd about being in Buffalo, NY....lol.....

"It was the summer of '07....We were young and restless....and needed to unwind......".......

Fun memories there, indeed.........

Added more names to the list too...Feel free to add your name to the list too, if you haven't done such already..

Everyone- I ask you all.....

"What times/days of the year would work best for you? For example, summer, spring, a certain month of the year?"

Would like to get a general consensus here...So we can all arrange for something...for real......

Ant

It sounds really cool! hehehe

This sounds like a fun idea. Would be cool to meet other couples who've been going through this same crazy process. :)

Sometime late in spring, or more likely into the summer, would probably be best, 'since Yvonne isn't planning on moving until late April at the earliest.

Haha! They are my favorite band!! Lots of great music comes out of Canada, and since I live in Buffalo I am lucky enough to get a lot of exposure to it. Sadly, a lot of the US misses out on good stuff like GBS, 54-40, Blue Rodeo, Spirit of the West, etc.

The instrumental music director in my senior year of high school got me hooked on Toronto's Moxy Früvous in '97, which started me down the path that led me to meeting Yvonne. I met a number of her friends from high school in 2001 when I attended the Frühead convention (FrüCon 4) that year, and some time later got to know her by association. :)

Hi Everyone,

More replies....

Huggles-Lol..Yup, I guess Welland is known for the canal...Cool that you met OBX that was from Welland too!

Lol...I know the smell thing is a joke...But I admit, Western New York does have a certain 'smell' to it. Lol...And yeah, those run-down buildings downtown don't help the area either. Stinky buildings! Lol....No offence taken....

Thanks for suggesting July working the best for you...

Hopefully we can get something going together by then....

OBX-Thanks for suggesting Spring/Summer working the best for you...

Hopefully we can get something going together by then....

Yeah, I know what you mean about the roads being clear of snow...It sure can be quite the challenging drive in this winter weather!

No need to risk your life to meet...Will meet when it is safer to travel.....

Spring / summer works better for me as well.

Once I know the roads are clear I am more likely to travel. While I don't mind the drive from NJ to Ontario I don't like worrying about the weather.

Sleepy-I agree, it sounds really cool too! (lol.that's why I wanted to arrange for such) Would be cool to see you and other VJers there too!

It sounds really cool! hehehe

ChrisNmanda-I agree, it sounds really fun too! (lol.that's why I wanted to arrange for such) Would be fun to see you and other VJers there too! And yes, everyone is welcomed, regardless of newbies, experienced, and everyone else in between. And it doesn't matter if you can meet once, or more than that....Either way, hope you can make it before you move to Georgia...(lol..and maybe start a meetup group there too...)

Likewise, even though my immigration journey is over, I would like to meet other couples who are going/have been through the same crazy process too. Lol...Others don't understand, unless they have "been there done that...to hell and back with the USCIS...".....Thanks for suggesting Spring/Summer working the best for you...Hopefully we can get something going together by then....

Julez-Cool that you're from Buffalo too. And yes, you're welcomed to invite others too (just add their VJ name to the list too). That's ok that you're from the UK..As all are welcomed, regardless of country! (lol..as long as you don't mind that there are Canadians there too..then that's fine). Have fun with your trip back to the UK soon. And thanks for suggesting Spring/Summer working the best for you...Hopefully we can get something going together by then....Keep on reading this thread for more details...

Scooter-Glad to hear that you and Spoom are up for this too! And thanks for saying that the US side works better for you. I admit, the US side works better for me too. However, we can also accomodate for the Canada side too. Guess we'll all have to take a vote on that one...

Either way, hope he gets his AP/GC soon too, so that he can have legal permanent residency status here in the US and can travel back to Canada too.

I'm pretty sure Spoom and I would be up for this.....as long as it's on the US side. He doesn't have his AP/GC yet.

Everyone-Thanks for your replies expressing your interest in a meet-up! Hopefully we can make this into a reality soon! Stay tunned on this thread for further details....

Everyone-

Ok..So we narrowed it down to Spring/Summer...Based on the previous replies....

How about May, June, or July? (pick one....)

As well...Which side of the border would you like to meet on...

US Side? Canadian Side?

Which city/town would you like to/prefer to meet in?

Where would you like to meet?

Tim Hortons? Mall/Shopping Centre? Tourist Attraction? Park? Other? Etc.

Any other ideas/thoughts/suggestions about the meet-ups?

My vote (lol..just my preferances....not the majority and not the final decision...It's all up to you to decide on that)

-May/June.....US Side (but can accomodate for Canadian Side too)......Niagara Falls or Buffalo....Still can't decide on location (but it has to be child/baby friendly..)

What are your votes/preferances?

Trying to get a general consenus on things..So that we can set something up for sure.......

Might I suggest a poll? You can ask multiple questions at once.

And yeah, I'd be up for a meetup, and I can't leave the country until I get my AP so it'd have to be in the US for me to be there (unless it's in May or thereafter as I'd be likely to have my AP by then).
