Really...people tend to over engineer and exaggerate every little aspect of daily human life. Should I spend $200 for the latest and greatest contraption to do this and that or should I just rely on the basics? It's a no brainer. Buy a $2 toothbrush, $2 worth of floss, $2 worth of toothpicks, and use them frequently and as enthusiastically as needed. Unless you have extenuating medical or dental problems...that is all you need. Personal hygiene doesn't have to bankrupt you.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Look at the math:

Vibrating toothbrush $50-$200

One cavity $125-250

Root canal $1,500

Some things are worth the price up front as they will save you money in the long run.

Precisely. ^_^ Some things are worth the investment.

Do you have scientific proof? Why piss $$$ down the toilet if it's not necessary?

I don't need an expensive electric machine to clean my teeth. Spending money isn't the answer to every problem.

Manual toothbrushes removes an average of only 50% of plaque from smooth tooth surfaces and even LESS from between teeth. However, studies have proved using a power toothbrush will:

Cause a significant reduction in plaque of adults and children.bullet

Reduce brushing force you need to apply during brushing to reduce gum recession.

Power toothbrushes are superior to manual in reducing gingival inflammation and bleeding.

Reduces stain and calculus better than manual.

People tend to brush longer with a power toothbrush.

67% of children studied preferred a power toothbrush due to the smaller brush head, easier to reach all areas of their mouth and the repetitive movement of the brush.

They automatically confer good brushing technique.

Decreased gingivitis better than manual.

Improve compliance.

Electric toothbrushes are very beneficial in the following areas:

You lack the manual dexterity or have any disability that limits your ability to brush

You have braces; an electric or implants toothbrush may reach crevices you can't otherwise clean

Children due to the smaller brush head and easier to reach all areas of their mouth.

You love gadgets and would really brush longer if you had a built-in timer featured on some models

Your are trying to encourage a child to brush and the novelty of a power tool would help

You scrub too vigorously with a regular brush and need a tool that that will help you limit the force you can apply

You have a periodontal disease and your dentist advises using a power tool

Gum recession, using an electronic toothbrush helps control over zealous brushing.

Man, I was asking about those people if the vibrating toothbrush really works. See my original post. I am not trying to stir anything or start a "spirited discussion." If you are asking about the statement that some (I wrote some, not all) things with higher cost do better than the ones that are cheaper, I don't have to present anything scientific. Even you can attest to that. ^_^

A spirited discussion on VJ: PRICELESS!

If I do poorly in OT, I'm gonna blame you. You are my mentor. :P

Thank you everyone for sharing.

My husband and I went to the dentist on Tuesday. The dentist recommended Philips Sonicare.

I now have FlexCare RS940 with UV Sanitizer from the dentist's clinic.
