So, (as this interpretation goes) the only time it is OK for muslims to kill apostates is when the very existence of Islam is at stake and the apostates are spies sent to harm Islam. This is a very different thing from what even moderate muslims believe. I think.

I found another site.. called Ask-Imam.com. This is what it says:

There are two categories of people mentioned: an apostate and an original non-Muslim.

The first one is an apostate or renegade, i.e. a Muslim person who has turned away from Islam and the second are those who are non-Muslims originally. The law for the first group of people, i.e. renegade is that firstly Islam will be presented once again to him and if he has any doubts or queries then these should be cleared out and he will be given a respite of 3 days. If he accepts Islam again, then fine otherwise he will be killed. This is substantiated by the noble Hadith of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) wherein he explicitly mentions, ‘Whosoever changes his Deen, then kill him’. This only apply to the males. A female renegade will not be killed, rather kept imprisoned until she accepts Islam.

I guess Nonie Darwish is safe... she won't be killed but will rather be enslaved until she accepts Islam. How compassionate.

The same page has some chilling verbiage on what happens to a non-Muslim people who refuse to submit to Islam or pay taxes as means of showing their subservience to Islam:

... when the Muslims conquer a non-Muslim land, they will first invite those people to Islam because of the narration of ibn Abbaas (Radhiallaahu Anhu), ‘No nation should be fought with until they are called to Islam.’ If the accept, then Muslims will not fight with them. And if they refuse, then they will be asked to pay Jizya (tax), if they refuse, this, then only will the Muslims fight them. This is also substantiated by Qur’aan, ‘Fight against those who believe not in Allah nor in the last day nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and his Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) until they pay the Jizya (tax) with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.’ (Surah Tawbah Aayat29).

Isreal is an occupied land that is practicing Genicide. I will never support that. When my people and my home are being attacked. I will not support that. when I have left my home to be safe I will not support that. When people's lives and childrens lives are being taken away , I will not support that.

According to "The Koran for Dummies", the jizya tax is not meant to be a tool of oppression for those who do not convert. Muslims are required to contribute 10% of their income to charity, it's one of the 5 pillars of Islam. The thinking goes, since the muslims are taking care of the poor and needy, the non-muslims must do their share as well. But since they're not muslims, they cannot be compelled to contribute as the muslims do, since that would be tantamount to forcing Islam on them and "there is no compulsion in religion". So the jizya tax is taken by the Islamic government to provide services to the non-muslim population.

At least, that's how it's supposed to work. I kind of doubt the jizya tax is applied that way in places like Iran.

Okay. I have a question. I see a lot of blame being put on Isreal and on countries who support Isreali policy. Why do I not hear much blame being put on Hezbulla? Or on the governments of the countries who are supporting Hezbulla?

Q: Please differentiate between disapproving the attacks against the US and approving of attacks against Israel. In reading answers to previous questions, you mentioned that the attacks against the US are not justified because among other things they killed women (and children). However, you also mentioned the attacks against the Israeli occupation of Palestine are justified because( among other things) it is the lesser of two evils. Is this saying that those laws which say the US attacks were wrong does not apply because of what Israel is doing? If that is the case, being that the US is helping Israel with the occupation of our land( and that cant be argued ) why are the laws also not compromised to let us kill Americans? Please give me an exact difference. Also, if Allah wants us to hate Jews and we are "better" than them, why did Allah let them ovecome all the Islam states and the Palestinains in the wars of '48 and '67 abnd let them occupy Palestine?

A: There is a difference between the US situation and the Palestinian situation. The land in the US does not belong to Muslims, whereas Palestine belongs to us.

The Jews have occupied our land and the whole territory has become a Warfield. That is not so in the US. The implications of being in a Warfield is different from that land which is not a Warfield.
