Another article by Nonie Darwish, the founder of arabsforisrael.com, titled "Our Culture of Hate", dated Feb 2006. Excerpts below, URL at the bottom:

Another interesting fact I just found. Wikipedia has an Apostasy in Islam page and they list Nonie Darwish, founder of arabsforisrael.com, as a "Notable Apostate".

An Islamic Q&A site on the Internet has this to say about apostates:

If a Muslim apostatizes and meets the conditions of apostasy – i.e., he is of sound mind, an adult and does that of his own free will – then his blood may be shed with impunity. He is to be executed by the Muslim ruler or by his deputy – such as the qaadi or judge, and he is not to not be washed (after death, in preparation for burial), the funeral prayer is not to be offered for him and he is not to be buried with the Muslims.

The evidence that the apostate is to be executed is the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever changes his religion, execute him.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2794). What is meant by religion here is Islam (i.e., whoever changes from Islam to another religion).

I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to her

a tip of the hat to her.....now sanita' s views..a chechen whose family was deported to kazkahstan by stalin..all uncles ,..aunts cousins dies..her father met her future mother and they moved to almaty...chechenya is under russian control currently....her views is the armed reisistance there has lost all values as the leadership has resorted to terrorism and death in response to the russians...innocents killed on both side..and in the end..nothing changes...the russian leave the islamics take over and the people still suffer ..

I had a discussion with a blogger (forget exactly who, Black Iris,TBP, or ESM) about this. He said an interpretation of the apostasy passages in the Koran go like this: at the time the statements were made, Islam was very young and numbered few believers. Also the muslims were engaged in a war, a true holy jihad, which could result in the end of Islam. Some of the converts to Islam (since at that time all muslims were converts) were actually spies for those fighting the muslims. The passages giving permission to execute apostates were in reference to those spies.

So, (as this interpretation goes) the only time it is OK for muslims to kill apostates is when the very existence of Islam is at stake and the apostates are spies sent to harm Islam. This is a very different thing from what even moderate muslims believe. I think.

Which brings a question to my mind. Why is there no vocal outrage from the Middle-East about the Chechen situation? I've always kind of wondered this. I'm guessing that Russians offering to sell weapons to people the US won't touch might have something to do with it...

I found another site.. called Ask-Imam.com. This is what it says:

There are two categories of people mentioned: an apostate and an original non-Muslim.

The first one is an apostate or renegade, i.e. a Muslim person who has turned away from Islam and the second are those who are non-Muslims originally. The law for the first group of people, i.e. renegade is that firstly Islam will be presented once again to him and if he has any doubts or queries then these should be cleared out and he will be given a respite of 3 days. If he accepts Islam again, then fine otherwise he will be killed. This is substantiated by the noble Hadith of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) wherein he explicitly mentions, ‘Whosoever changes his Deen, then kill him’. This only apply to the males. A female renegade will not be killed, rather kept imprisoned until she accepts Islam.

I guess Nonie Darwish is safe... she won't be killed but will rather be enslaved until she accepts Islam. How compassionate.

The same page has some chilling verbiage on what happens to a non-Muslim people who refuse to submit to Islam or pay taxes as means of showing their subservience to Islam:

... when the Muslims conquer a non-Muslim land, they will first invite those people to Islam because of the narration of ibn Abbaas (Radhiallaahu Anhu), ‘No nation should be fought with until they are called to Islam.’ If the accept, then Muslims will not fight with them. And if they refuse, then they will be asked to pay Jizya (tax), if they refuse, this, then only will the Muslims fight them. This is also substantiated by Qur’aan, ‘Fight against those who believe not in Allah nor in the last day nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and his Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) until they pay the Jizya (tax) with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.’ (Surah Tawbah Aayat29).
