Inspect the I-94 document BEFORE leaving the immigration officer's area.

FRONT & BACK - this is the only opportunity you will have to ask questions

before the AOS. You need to have the name spelled correctly to fill out the

AOS paperwork.

They misspelled my wife's name on there and we had to take a trip to the airport to

have them correct their own mistake.

You kidding? You gave info for K-1 entrant, OP clearly has CR-1 in his timeline.

NO I-94 needed, the only thing to be filled out is the customs form.

OP, double check and confirm that you are in the SAVE system before leaving the secondary inspection. Everyone's nice at O'Hare.

What questions are asked and how many are dependant on the BPO. Some are very picky, some are not, just luck of the draw!

How long it takes really depends on how long the line is and what BPO you get.

We were K-1 at Detroit POE so I'm not sure how much it varies. We were asked one question by the BPO and a few by the Customs Officer later. Whole thing from deplaning to moving on to domestic flight was a little over a half hour but it wasn't to busy when we arrived.

I'm sure you'll get some more replies specific to Chicago! Good Luck!!!

6/15/2009 Filed I-129F

12/15/2009 Interview (HCMC, VN)

1/16/2010 POE Detroit

3/31/2010 MARRIED !!!

11/20/2010 Filed I-485

lol. Thank u for looking out. Yep, CR-1 and not K-1. :D

What is SAVE system?

Ya, I read the POE Chicago and all the posts say POE is a breeze. So that's good.

Any directions to follow at the airport?

Thanks Bernie for the info.

If you've never seen it before - you can read about other people's experiences at Chicago POE (and others) in the POE Review Section.

I did review the POE Chicago page, but I want more detailed info.

It's a breeze, really. You go there with the spouse in the USC/PR line. If alone, ask the officer where does the new immigrant go to - normally they'll tell you the USC/PR line.

After you pass through passport control, they'll take your brown envelope and direct you to the secondary inspection. There you wait for your turn, depending how many others are there ahead of you. We waited for a total of 40 minutes (no connecting flights so we didn't care about the time). They ask you to step up, give your fingerprints and sign something then they process you in their computer system (SAVE). Now's the time to change the address for GC if you need to. After you're done with that, your CR-1 visa is stamped with the admission date and class and serves as your temporary GC. You can then go to the baggage claim to pick up your bags.

My wife came in on a K-1 with the little one (K-2) and including having to retrieve the dog that was shipped along, less than one hour from landing to walking through the double doors. Very easy. Lots of smiles and welcomes.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
