Largest-ever federal payroll to hit 2.15 million

The era of big government has returned with a vengeance, in the form of the largest federal work force in modern history.

The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that "the era of big government is over"...

Most of the increases are on the civilian side, which will grow by 153,000 workers, to 1.43 million people, in fiscal 2010.

The expansion could provide more ammunition to those arguing that the government is trying to do too much under President Obama.

The new figures are contained in the budget that Mr. Obama sent Monday to Congress.

They are providing vital services we need, well maybe for somebody else, the only service I see is that guy with a truck that picks up a half a bag of garbage each week.

I only lasted two years with civil service, was a GS-11, but not much of a butt kisser, really got fed up when a highly incompetent co-worker was promoted to a supervisor because he could not do the work of a skilled person. Perhaps I have my regrets now missing 75% retirement pay and all those holidays and vacation days I had to work. Least I got Veterans day off, haven't since, that bugs me since I am a veteran of a foreign war.

I could never get a government job today, because I speak perfect English and have an IQ greater than two.
