Nah. I think the 60s, 70s, 80s were violent. Too much racism in the suburbs. Gangster rap, etc...

Those times I think were more violent. Don't forget the violence because of the Vietnam war. The massive rebels on the streets.

There weren't as many shootings in Boston back then. Now it's almost daily.

No - its your opinion. It has nothing whatsoever to do with empiricism.

Having spoken to numerous people who are in the education system, across various countries, they seem to side with me. Or is their opinion invalid too? Since opinions, articles and studies are invalid, then what is valid?

Bingo! Nowadays, there is at least a stabbing or violent attack each week in Melbourne by teenagers. I could count on one hand how many teenage stabbings there were on the news over 10 years when I grew up in the 80's/90s.

How many mass shootings by teenagers were there in the 70's and 80's? My brother said zero in Aus.

Now hold on - I never said your opinion was invalid. I just disagree that your opinion has anything to do with empiricism.

There's room to discuss opinions, just not when it is presented as if it is unvarnished fact.

I don't have any statistics for Boston to compare, but I never heard about shootings and violent attacks like I do today. I personally believe that there are a lot more now. I really don't think it's because the media makes a bigger deal of it now than they did 30 years ago. I truly feel that something has changed in society. It seems to me that there is less respect for a human life than there once was.

My biggest regret in life is that I waited so late to have sex. If only I had discovered the pleasures sooner!

The sheep would be even more nervous. :P

NOw you see there CLeo, that is where you are both right.. and silly.

You are "right" most sex ed classes you would approve of, encourage kids to "wait until they are ready".

YOu are silly to expect a kid to know when that is.

Would we tell kids.... wait until you are ready to drink or smoke pot, or try crank?

How about, would we tell kids, don't play with guns until you think you are ready?

Suggesting kids "might" be ready... leaves a lot of power in a 14 yr olds hands... as well as a horny... pushy boyfriend. (Any guys want to testify?).

Courses that are based in Abstinence almost always include the needed information on Birth control and the many risks one exposes them self to with unprotected, and casual sex.

I have seen these courses and they do cover the bases so no one is left wondering how to protect them self if they become sexually active ....at 14.

THe unfortunate thing is many courses basically say.... "Look we all know you guys are gonna be having sex, so heres how it works and here's the safest way to do it".

Of course parents are always free to guide and in fact encourage you kids to have sex if they want.

Danno, that's a quote from your own article on the program they are advocating as working. I think they are right and what is more, the program, and ones that I would applaud help children to make educated decisions as to what 'ready' means - and it's not just whenever you start feeling horny.

It's also ludicrous and wrong to imagine that just because there are sex education classes in schools, parents have absovled themselves of any responsiblity in this matter. Most parents today are good parents, the bad ones are the ones you hear about, but they are not anywhere near a majority and they take this role seriously and talk about sex responsibly with their teens. The roll of the school is to ensure that the every child has access to acurate information, to back up the parents, not take over from them.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
