If the kid has teeth and can chew up semi-solid to solid food, he doesn't need to be breastfed anymore, IMHO. Could you imagine the pain if the kid bit you?? Ouch!!!

My son had teeth at 4 months and there are some babies that are born with teeth - that has nothing to do with breastfeeding - babies should be breastfed for the first year (just the same as babies who have formula for the first year) and then after that it is up to the individual to decide if it's time to wean - again no different than a baby who has a bottle (I've seen lots of toddlers with a bottle - how is this any different?) And to the comment about if a baby can walk around they're too old - my sister walked when she was 8 1/2 months - so obviously she was NOT too old to be breastfed still. I agree that perhaps the woman could have been a bit more discreet so as not to make you feel uncomfortable though.

my bestfriend did this alot longer than age 2. it used to bugg the hell out of me.

because, the boy had TEETH -he would walk up to her and lift her shirt.

what I hate WORSE is when people feed their kids in public at the dinner table.

that chit pissses me off. i dont want my husband seeing some chicks #######!

OK WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT YOU CAN NOT EAT AT A FLIPPIN TABLE THEN IT WOULD BE A DIFFERENT STORY THEN HUH?!?!?!?! I AM OUTRAGED AT HAT SOME OF YOU PEOPL ARE SAY DIDNT YOU MOTHER EVER TELL YOU THAT IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY THING NICE TO SAY THEN DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL? AND SOME THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN SAID ARENT VERY NICE. WHAT IF YOU WERE A NEW MOM AND WANTED TO BREATFEED THEN YOU READ THIS WHAT OULD YOU THINK OF IT? I NOE YOU WOULD THINK ITS WRONG AND ITS NOT, ITS ONE OF THE MOST NATURAL THINGS EVER! :ranting::protest::bonk:

technically the child is eating at a ####### ... the ####### my or may not be at the table to to make your little analogy right you'd need to say "What if I told you you couldn't eat from a #######" I mean technically.

honestly, settle down - people are not so upset about the publicness of it as the AGE of the child.

Did you forget your meds this morning? seriuosly.

I was just reading something about this on cnn - Lactivists: Where is it OK to breastfeed?

Now, I don't have kids, so I really don't know what I'll do. I definately won't be like that mom in Desperate Housewives who breast feeds her 5 year old. And, when I do it in public, I'm getting a somali khimar that drapes down over my waist so the baby and my chest will be covered. Seriously, it's not too difficult to carry around a nursing wrap or cover in your bag if you want to breastfeed in public.

breastfeeding-cover-kiana-pink.jpg

Wait until your baby gets older and see how easy it is to stay covered up - the baby will pull the cover off pretty quick.

OMG! As a nurse I've seen it all! Once this mother was in the clinic with her 5 years old son and her 1 year old daughter they had just adopted from China. I go into the exam room and I look at the 5 year old thinking "Geez....what is he doing? He looks uncomfortable." Well she was nursing him! I did what I had to do and went to get the doctor. When we came back in she was finishing off with her daughter on the same breast! Freaked me out to see the 5 year old nursing then to she the daughter on the same breast! Just weird to me.

I stopped nursing my kids when they were old enough to know where dinner came from. When my son was 3 months old, I was holding him and he grabbed my boobs and smiled....DONE! My daughter was about 6 months when she would start playing her biting games...DONE!

Where did you go to school? As a nurse I would think you would know that breast if best - exclusively for the first 6 months and then for the first year with solids as well. Babies NEED the nutrition that comes from either breastmilk or formula for proper growth and development.

I used to work with a woman that breast-fed her children until they were 5 years old. She had 5 children and they were born just a couple years apart, so dinnertime had to be busy.

I agree that a mother has the right to breast feed in public but I also have the right to not see her boobs.

What about seeing man boobs? ####### for tat, I say. ;)

especially not man-boobs... :no::blink::no::huh::no::wacko:

NEWS FLASH HONEY, I worked in postpartum clinic where I helped with many new moms teaching them how to nurse their babies. I cannot begin to tell you how many new moms were so stressed because they felt everyone wanted them to breastfeed their babies. Since you are an expert on this you know that when a woman is stressed, it affects their milk supply. I would have new moms so upset because "their mom" said they HAD to breastfeed that we would have to try different measures to even geit their milk to come in. I would show them the pros along with some of the cons, but ultimitaly it is the womans decision if they want to nurse and no one elses. It's their body. Don't beleive anywhere in my post that I said I did not advocate breastfeeding did I???? Hmmmmm NOPE. I nursed my children till I was not comfortable with it anymore, which was my decision and no one elses. I know that breastfeeding is best. And not that it's any business of yours, but my children DID have my breastmilk for the first year, just did not nurse them. Oh, and for the record, I went to a VERY GOOD nursing school. :D
