Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I was hoping some of you may be able to help me out.

My husband (American) and I (Canadian) got married Sept 20, 2008 and I recieved my perm resident card in March 2009. My mother (Canadian) who has been storing some stuff of mine recently downsized and would like to go on a road trip to bring it to me. She would crossing through from Alberta to MT before continuing down to CO. What she has is 4-5 largish Rubbermaid bins (25gal I believe). They they contain things like; books, kids/toys and stuff toys, yearbooks, photo albums, framed photos, stained glass my grandfather made and some clothing. Financially none of it is really worth anything other then sentimental value. However mailing this stuff would cost a fortune and she is planning to do this road trip anyway.

First off will she be able to bring me this stuff or are they likely to flag her at the boarder? I don't plan on leaving CO anytime soon so don't want her to get hassled on any future visits.

Is their documentation that is required to bring my stuff or any docs that would make her life easier. We've tossed around the idea of me writing a letter with all our dates and contact info and giving her a photocopy of my green card. Would this help or make it worse? Also, I know she plans on bringing the usual documentation showing her ties to Canada (deed, job, family).

Lastly is a complete list of everything she is bringing down neccessary? There is a lot of odds and ends in the bins and I'd hate for her to do it if she doesn't have to.

Thanks!

Hey another Coloradian! :)

There is a form you can fill out and have your mother take. Unfortunately I can't find it on my computer! Its a form for unaccompanied entry of goods. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find it.

Your mom should also bring a copy of your green card to prove your status in the US and that you are eligible to bring your goods to the US duty free.

It would also be smart of her to include a list of goods, just so she could be prepared if they ask at the border crossing. It really doesn't need to be specific- just write things like: clothing, books, etc.

You all are awesome. Thank you so much for such a quick response! I was sure there must be some sort of form since the boarder does like its paperwork, but skimming through all the different forms out there seemed a little danting.

VJ seems like a great active community, I only wish I'd stumbled upon it before we went through the GC process.
