    • I can see them out my window! (0-100 km/miles)

    • It's like a short drive into the next town (100-500 km/miles)

Just saw this poll! For a while hubby and I were Toronto-Baltimore. It was miserable. And expensive. I think my husband spent all his salary on plane tickets... and I spent ALL of my little graduate student stipend to see him when it was impossible for him to fly here.

But all that money was worth it :)

Finally married... and still married... ;)

I was in Saskatoon, SK & hubby in Ventura, CA....that is around 3000 kms or approx. 1900 miles! When I flew here to Ventura (actually Santa Barbara most times) it took anywhere from 3 to 4 planes each way. I never flew until I met Jim...from the first time I flew out to the last time (less than 1 yr), I had 42 flights under my belt (includes flying to Vancouver for interview)! We were "officially" engaged the night before we got married so we were engaged for around 15 hrs! anyone beat that time? lol

effective May 13, 2011 - back in Canada, journey is over

I think I am sort of the odd one out on this one.... It's complicated...lol...

We met in 05 when I was going to school in the US... Flash forward 3 years...after graduation and 1 yr of OPT (work auth) I moved back to canada in May of 08. Hardest decision to ever make...we just weren't ready to get married yet. It double sucked because we had spent past 3 years dating seeing each other daily & 1 year of living together...... To phone calls, webcam, skype & weekend trips.

For the next 6 mos we lived about 4.5 hours away from each other (lots of weekend trips)

The last 9 mos of our separation (got orders) he was a 15 hour drive one way :( only saw him 2x in 9 months.... Had a wedding to plan & save up for!

Heh...I totally hear you there! I can't begin to count how many flights I've had overall in the past year and a half. It's probably about the same number as you (flights, not trips in general). Yeah...a minimum of four flights per visit for me, sometimes more...and eight or nine visits overall, plus my flight to Montreal in a few weeks... It certainly adds up!

Minnew, we have a similar situation! Hubby and I met in school back in 2005 -- we were introduced by his mom who happened to be a former professor of mine :P We dated for 2 years - oh happy times!, then my family got immigration papers to Canada, so I had to leave for Toronto. Like you, we weren't ready for marriage, even though we knew wanted to marry each other. Two years of long distance, lots of tears and heart ache, excruciatingly expensive flights and long distance calling cards held our relationship together :) And now, here we are!

We were 2 days drive or roughly 1000 miles apart. I never once flew to see him as I prefer driving. He flew once to see me in February. With driving, I luck out as I have many family members living about 1/2 way between Chicago and Cochrane. I was able to get some family visits in the same trip to see hubby. We still make the 2 day drive 3 or 4 times a year to see my daughter.
