I'm curious how often you flew vs. drove Sapphire? Its just far enough that driving would be a pain, but close enough that it would suck sitting in an airport just to catch a 1 hour flight.

That was always my dilemma. The drive for me from Welland to NJ was about 7 1/2 hours but I found that too much just for a weekend even though I don't mind the drive. On the other hand flying out of Buffalo to Newark on a Friday night was always a gamble. I would say that in our ten years of a long-distance relationship I was delayed many more times than I was on time.

We would generally take turns. I would fly every 2-3 weeks for a few months and then he would drive up the following months.

Boy that is the one thing I do not miss!

We were only 10 miles apart. For a while it was about 120 miles (Toronto to Buffalo). But then it was Fort Erie to Buffalo while the GC process was going on. In fact Steve lived further away from downtown Buffalo than I did! I was very familiar with the Peace Bridge crossing.

Ant+D+A, you can't be that far away from us at all . . .

Hi Everyone,

As you all know, we as Canadians/Americans, are "so close yet so far" from our significant others in the USA/Canada...(as I mentioned in other posts)

So my questions to all of you is......

:star: How close/far away are/were you from your American/Canadian significant other? :star:

My (Ant's) answer: It's like a short drive into the next town (100-500 km/miles) (From Toronto, ON, Canada to a small town near Buffalo, NY, USA)

(lol..this was many years ago though...but now we are happily ever after together...here in the USA...)

"So close yet so far....and only a border, immigration, a lot of time, money, the USCIS, and stress get in the way!......"

Now it's your turn to answer the poll.....Happy Voting!

Ant (So close, yet so far...sigh...)

Well, when we first started dating he was only about 7 hours away by bus/train in Binghamton, NY and neither of us had a car, so we took the bus/train.

Then when he was in NYC and I was in Toronto, we always flew. He doesn't like driving long distances and I never had a car, plus I can't really drive longer than 3-4 hours on my own (I get sleepy).

We knew how to time our travel so that we were door-to-door NYC-Toronto or vice versa in about 4 hours exactly without delays if we took the first flight of the day. I used to wake up at 5 a.m. in NYC, get to the airport by 5:20, be at the gate by 5:45, boarding the plane at 6:15, land in TO just before 8 a.m. and then in my desk in Toronto by 9:00 a.m. We had it down to a science. Evening flights were a bit harder since flights to/from NYC-TO are almost always delayed. I think the longest travel time by plane was probably 6 or 7 hours, so we could've drove in almost the same time!

I'm trying to convince my hubs that we should drive back in April for a weekend, but he wants to fly! I just really want to bring some of my stuff back that won't fit in a suitcase, LOL.

When Chris lived in Metlakatla we were 15 hours by car and a 5 hour ferry ride away. Drive to Prince Rupert and get on the Alaska Ferry Service. I did that trip only once. :bonk: Normally 3 hours by plane, plus short lay-over in Seattle.

When I was in Edmonton and Chris in Hilo, it was like 3400 miles apart.

According to Google Maps, we are 1329 kilometers apart.

I don't like the poll, though, because my choice says that I need to fly to visit her. I don't. I drive the 13+ hours straight. Nothing can keep me from my girl. To be honest, I've made the round trip around 7 or 8 times...it's not that bad.

Sincerely,
