No. The IRS expects you to be truthful in whatever you put down and they don't require you to verify things like marriage or birth of children, for example.

The marriage certificate is not required; the 1040X has a box for describing the reason for submitting an amended return. Since the 1040X has to be mailed, sending a copy of your marriage certificate is essentially free if it makes you feel better to include it.

Question: Do you have a social security number? If not, then I would suggest waiting until you do to submit the 1040X as you (the alien) will qualify for the 2008 Recovery Tax Rebate. Could be up to an extra $600 credit for you. Go to IRS.gov and search for it. The 2008 RTR was not available to those with an ITIN; had to have a SSN (we actually waited until August last year to file waiting for Rin and the children's SSN - an extra $600 for Rin and $300 per child).

It was dependent on several variables, but I can't find it on the IRS website. If you made too much, too little, etc it changed the rebate. Max was $600 per adult and $300 per dependent.
