I am currently looking at a ticket to Morocco for my husband and I. The cheapest flight goes through Istanbul (way out of the way) but has a 23 hour layover one way and a 15 hour layover the other. I think it would be a great visit to another country for both of us so I am embracing the layover! That being said - any suggestions for a relatively cheap but nice hotel/hostel/bed and breakfast not too far from the airport - also if you had a limited time in Istanbul what would you make sure to see?

Wow, I am jealous! I absolutely LOVE Turkey! A 23 hour layer is plenty of time. The best part of Istanbul is Sultanahmet which is only about a 30 minute drive or so from the airport. In Sultanahmet, there are plenty of inexpensive hotels (some kind of shady) although it is close to everything. You can see the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern, and Bazaar within walking distance. Oh, and you have to try the doner kabobs and Shawerma! Yes, the shwaerma there is hands down the best I have ever had. Check out this link:

I stayed at the Hotel Pamphylia, which wasn't much but it was CLOSE TO EVERYTHING. The prices are between 30 & 40 Euros per single occupancy.

I hope this is helpful to you!

Sultenhamet is definately the place to see if youre going to be staying in Instanbul. My mother and I have made several trips there and we love it. There is a hotel called the Alakurka which is wonderful and it is a 5 minute walk from the blue mosque. That would be my recommendation!!! If you end up going for a day be prepared to fall in love with the city!!!! :)

Even if he is physically an ocean away, his love surrounds me everyday...

You are not alone tonight

Imagine me there by your side

It's so hard to be here so far away from you

I'm counting the days till

I'm finally done

I'm counting them down, yeah, one by one

It feels like forever till I return to you

But it helps me on those lonely nights

It's that one thing that keeps me alive

Knowing that you wait for me

Ever so patiently

No one else knows the feeling inside

We hang up the phone without saying goodnight

Because it's the sound of your voice that brings me home

It's never been easy to say

But it's easier when I've gone away

Knowing that you wait for me

Ever so patiently

Yeah, you're everything I've ever dreamed of having and

It's everything I need from you just knowing that you wait for me
