Out the snitches?

There was a thread going the other day, and I got into a tussle with Pooky after Pooky insisted I had no right to comment any further after his/her input on the subject had been given.

Sometimes I choose to ignore that sort of thing, other times not. Eventually after a bit of back and forth, in comes Krikit to the thread indicating a report had been made [on whom, by whom? regarding?] and reminding everyone to obey the TOS. I realize in football, often the flag goes to the respondent, and oft times it appears that way via the mod's here in OT. But Krikit didn't say who she felt was in the wrong, just a 'watch it, this has been reported.'

I could care less about being attacked, or even told to shut up by a fellow VJ'r in OT. Happens all the time, I am sure there are others who would agree I do it too. But the right to respond seems paramount.

And while it was unclear who Krikit felt was in the wrong, nothing shuts down OT fun like a bit of moderation.

Seems pretty unhelpful not to know who reported, what they reported, and who Krikit felt was violating TOS. Obviously no agregious action was taken such as someone getting banned [pookie are you out there?] but still...

I say report the reporters in OT!!!

I think since this is Off Topic there shouldn't be any moderation. If someone calls someone else an @sshole, big deal it's not like it's someone you really know like a neighbor or co-worker.

Why should anyone be disturbed if an a$$hole calls an a$$hole an a$$hole?

In the service of our country, we always called our best buddies a$$holes, that was because we all were a$$holes, fighting a war we never started and wouldn't gain anything if we did win. Well maybe would become an honorable a$$hole.

It's the prerogative of any member to report an abuser if they so see fit. Read the board rules, if you don't like them, leave, no one is twisting your arm.

For what it is worth - as Pooky has given permission to reveal this - no, the report to the moderators did not come from him. Interestingly, for a surprisingly large number of reports it is not the person being insulted or attacked who makes the report but someone else.

I would absolutely take you at your word Pooky. I think a third party snitch was to blame! Kathryn makes a valid point.

I just don't know how anyone is supposed to learn anything by how that thread, and others, gets handled. Krikit could have been referring to me, you, or something and someone else entirely in the thread. Of course the third option is highly unlikely, but how do we know?

Lets, for the sake of argument adopt my rule. You and I act like a couple of nincompoops and some sissy mary decides to report.

Krikit, since this is OT is obliged to copy and paste both the report and reporter's name, and explain why she feels the report warranted any action at all. Having to do that might lesson the chance Krikit would be willing to even intervene when honestly there was really only a relatively tame ongoing exchange compared to so many that go completely unhindered in OT. And the reporting party would be hesitant to report unless truly outrageous activity was taking place, and even if correct, be known as the tattle tale pantie waste they are.

This rule only applies to OT, and of course gives no one license to commit true and outrageous violations of TOS. But TOS needs to be bent here in OT to some degree. Lack of decorum demands it!

I don't think that is surprising at all. There are folks that want VJ OT to be a sanitised version of itself - a sort of milksop OT. I can't imagine why anyone would find that at all entertaining, but, then again, I like the pissy drama.

You're obviously really bugged by this.

My 2 cents - the problem isn't the snitching, it's the modding. Never mind who snitches on whom. Why do we need nannies around this joint in the first place? It's the nannies that enable the infantile snitching behavior.
