I was wondering if there is anything that I have to do special as my wife and I will be moving while her AOS is being processed. I am in the military and got orders to move. I have the money now to send in the papers but I am afraid that the paperwork may not catch up with me or the process will be delayed because we will not be by the original USCS office. Any suggestions? I would rather not wait until I get there as I am worried about spending the money we have set aside on moving costs.

Changes of address are notoriously poorly managed by the USCIS. You may never get your interview letter, not go to the interview, and thusly be denied -- just as a small example.

If at all possible, I would strongly encourage you to complete your move and then file the AOS with the new address.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.

if you've not filed for AOS yet, then

USCIS won't pay attention to your 'current address' at all.

You've not filed anything, so why would USCIS send you anything?

If timing is an issue (for the move ) then suggest you get a PO Box on the new base, at the base post office, probably inside the AAFES facility, now, prior to the move, and then use THAT address for all of the paperwork.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks, I kind of figured that but was hoping there was some other way. Thanks again.

I realize that, I just wanted to get the paperwork in the mail before leaving but I think I will hold off until I get there. To many variables.

Do you know the address that you're moving to? How soon is it after filing? Can you move them money to an account you don't use (say a savings account)? Can you give it to your mum for instance and ask her to write you a cheque after you've moved? Can you write the cheque out and put it somwhere and make sure you list it in your cheque book so you know what your balance is? I personally side with taking OUT the money and setting it aside somewhere (or to someone) because I too would just look at my account blance because we don't use cheques often in Australia so I'm not used to it.

Changing address while moving is entirely possible but it CAN cause problems. Here is the website to change address: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa you will need to do it online and then in paper form. And you will need to call around 2 weeks after sending it in to make sure the system reflects the change. I also advise putting a "forward" on your mail. While government mail isn't forwarded, if it DOES get sent to your old address the fact that your mail has been forwarded to another address will trigger the government mail to be returned to sender and they will either re-send it to the new address (if they have it) or they will update the online notification thing (like you had for the K1 on the USCIS website) with "mail returned. Please update your address" or words to that effect.

If possible try and send the form with the new details. Bearing in mind that you don't send the form with the new details CLOSE to your actual moving date then you may end up getting a biometrics appointment in that location and have to travel there to get it done before you actually move. Best thing is to wait till you move but you should look into ways to "hide" the AOS money from yourself so you don't spend it accidentally.
