“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Should you choose to enter the US without a visa, you will be considered and illegal alien and *NOT* eligible for a Green Card. The pathway to a Green Card is 2 years long after LEGALLY entering the United States.

The above information is incorrect.

Since this thread has turned into a discussion on immigration, I am moving it to the General Immigration Discussion forum.

Welcome to VJ! :)

Welcome to VJ! :)

I'm curious what was incorrect because that's what I've read and understood on here.... Hmmmmm...

Hello all! I'm a Canadian who just got married last week to her American man. Also just sold my condo here in Toronto (closing date is March 31st) and only now realizing how difficult it might be for me to move to the States. Will I have to live on the street before I can move to the States to be with my husband?

Websites are contradictory, there's no possibility of getting a live person... Forms have different names. I really need help! Any and all insights and suggestions are welcome and very appreciated.

Thank you!

I noticed when I clicked on your profile that you have Armenia listed as your Consulate. Is this a glitch, or were you born in Armenia and immigrated to Canada? This may add another level of complexity to your case. Not saying that it still can't be done, but you may need the advice of someone on this board that has gone through a similar scenario to help guide you.

Maybe it was just your wording? When you go through the process of obtaining your visa, in your case a K-1? Once in the U.S., you adjust status for your GC after you get married. If everything goes well, your fiance would be given a GC that's good for 2 years. In two years, you apply for your 10 year GC. So, it doesn't take 2 years to get your GC at all.

Secondly, Canadians can cross to the U.S. and visit for up to 6 months. They're not considered an illegal alien. Even if a Canadian, WITH NO PRIOR INTENT TO STAY after getting married, decided to stay and adjust status after that, they could. It's all in the wording...as in prior intent.

Hope this helps clarify.

You'll not find one single legitimate person on this site that will support anyone doing anything illegal with respect to the immigration process, or any other for that matter.

Obviously you had not done any homework when it comes to this process and it sounds like yu are in possible complicated positions; however this shouldn't get you thinking that you should circumvent the legal process and cross the border.

If you do this illegally be prepared to face whatever severe consequences you will meet ie several years or permanent ban from returning to the USA.

You may want to consulate with an immigration lawyer.

Good luck.

i agree with you!
