Egh. What a pain.

We went to the SSN office to change my name on my SSN card.

Turns out I can't until I have my DHS document with my married name on it!

(Is that my EAD or my Green Card?)

Anyway, it's such a pain. I just want it changed so I can get things like a bank account or driver's licence!

Y don't u just get stuff done with ur maiden name? I don't think it's a problem for anybody... I never changed my last name and not going to till we have a kid - thats the deal, i love my husband to death but I like my own identity B-)

02/11/2010--------checks cashed yay!! (day 9)

02/12/2010--------NOA1 recieved for i-485/i-130 (day 10)

I have found out that once after I turned in my applications. That's why my EAD is delaying. You mean that you have seen one person whose case is same as mine, got EAD ?

I think they changed the time we get mail. It's been this way for a week now. It's 2:30pm and no mail, normally we would have gotten it about 45 minutes ago. How annoying.

Aww...thanks Camie! She's my very special gift...my ex couldn't have children so we adopted her as a newborn. I waited a VERY long time to be a mom and I've been blessed with such a wonderful daughter!!

Because I want it all in my married name instead of having to get it in my maiden name and go back and change it all again. Just seems like a waste of effort.

What is AP???

I guess I do not have AP...

I just have: I-485 / I-130 and I-765.

Am I missing some form?

Can you please clarify???

AP is advanced parole.

It's a document that lets you re-enter the US incase you had to leave for an emergency while your AOS is still processing.

I was viewing my case status online and found out that my I-485 was "touched" yesterday. I hope that's good news! :D But my AP hasn't been touched since 02/23 and my husband wants me to call USCIS to ask about it. Should I call them now or just wait some more? :unsure:

You can still get a bank account even without the EAD. I just showed my passport and marriage license. The bank accepted them and used my married name. ;)

This is actually possible, you just have to fight them about it. It took me 2 trips, and arguing with the manager about their policies before they actually "tried" to put it through the system and it miraculously worked. I didn't have my name changed on my J-1 paperwork (although this is what the person had originally told me to do). There is a thread somewhere that has a link to the appropriate SSO policies which I printed out and brought with me. I also emailed the SSO and asked about it in advance, and brought the printed out email with me for backup.

It was a LOT of hassle, but it is possible.

10/03/09 - Wedding in Reno, NV

01/14/10 - I-485, I-130, I-765 & I-131 filed

01/25/10 - Checks cashed, NOAs sent!! (Day 1)

01/28/10 - NOAs received - dated 1/25/10 (Day 3)

02/04/10 - Biometrics letter received! (Day 10)

02/16/10 - Biometrics appointment, Modesto, CA - COMPLETED! (Day 22)

03/11/10 - Received interview notice - April 15, 2010 in Fresno, CA (Day 45)

03/18/10 - AP Approved (for my daughter - not me)!! (Day 52)

03/24/10 - Touch I-485 and email that RFE received on 2/18/10 (Day 58)

04/05/10 - INFOPASS appointment -- was told NBC must have decided not to process AP or EAD because interview was so soon. (Day 70)
