Fast drivers! Sounds like my husband. When we drove from Ontario to Denver he didn't stop for 14 hours the first day (aside from food and gas). It was pretty brutal! But awesome news for you and Sean!!

I've got it mapped out that I'll have three fourteen-hour days of driving in a row next month, excluding food and gas. I'm quite excited about it, to be honest! I love driving and I have a good car, so it's really going to be entertaining!

Wow! Well good luck Wyatt...

I think it would have been better if I was the one driving, but sitting in a passenger seat for 14 hours straight wasn't exactly fun. I kept offering to drive but he wanted to do it all himself! He loves driving and I think he enjoyed it, for the most part... at least a lot more than I did! Unfortunately driving through Nebraska, Iowa and eastern Colorado were pretty darn boring. The most interesting thing you get to see are cows... and occasional wind turbines.

You're driving from BC to DC? That's a drive! What's your planned route look like?

I've got a couple of options, but they don't differ TOO much.

The first day will definitely be from Langley, B.C. to Billings, Montana. I should be able to do that in about fourteen hours or so. It'll just be myself driving, so the only stops I'll make will be at gas stations...ones that have bathrooms and decent food counters! I'll eat while I drive.

Day two will be from Billings into South Dakota, where I'm going to take a brief detour into Deadwood and have lunch and buy a few souvenirs (my wife and I both loved the HBO TV series about that town). From there I'll head to Sioux City, and I'm not sure at this point whether or not I'll take the I-29 south to connect to the I-80, or if I'll continue along the I-90. If the former, I'll probably stop for the night in or around Davenport, Iowa. Otherwise, I'll stop in Sparta or even Madison, Wisconsin. On the final day I'll either continue along the I-80, which turns into the I-90 until it junctions with the I-70, which will ultimately lead me to D.C....or I'll take the I-39 down to the I-74 which also junctions with the I-70. I really want to avoid Chicago, and since the I-90 cuts right through it, I'll probably spike down to the 80 or the 74 before I hit it. This final leg of the trip should be the shortest, in theory...by about an hour or two. But still, all of these days are going to average about fourteen hours of driving. I'm pretty sure I can handle that. I've done it before, driving from Los Angeles to Olympia, Washington in a single day (which is 1100 miles...and this time I'll be aiming for 1000 miles per day).

The real X-factor in all of this is that my car will be full of my belongings, so it will literally be weighed down by at least 500 pounds. I'll be getting air bags for the springs before I go though, which will stop it from riding low. But make no mistake: it WILL be an adventure! :P

Wow! Sounds like an adventure to me! The nice thing about driving to Denver was the lack of thought that went into it. Cross the boarder, take the 90 to the 80. Done. But going through Chicago on the 90 really sucked, I will tell you that. We hit it at a bad time, even though it was a Saturday, and we got pretty backed up for a while. There was a F-150 that ran over something and punctured its gas tank, so there was fuel all over the road... in stop and go traffic. I thought I was going to lose my lunch a couple times  So I would agree that avoiding it is smart!

I guess you'll be getting to see a lot of the country! Just make sure you pack some red bull or something loaded with caffeine

Arabella! Its cute how excited you are! :)

UPDATE! Sean and his dad got in at about 7:25pm last night! I ruined dinner and had to run out to Publix to get a chicken and some sides. We stayed up visiting until about 11:30 and then I got up at 6am and made breakfast (that I did not ruin!). I am at work now because Sean doesn't want me to use up any more sick days . . . Sheesh he just gets here and he is already telling me what to do! (I love it though)!

So glad I get to come home to him tonight! :)

Horay!

Montreal Interviewer: "What do you have in common with each other?"

Peachey: "We're REALLY weird."

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

<back to interview>

Me: "Yes, yes I do."
