Where would you buy airplane tickets?

Hi,

I am trying to buy some airplane tickets for my parents from Taiwan to DC. Anyone has any idea what websites I should use? I have tried kayak.com, united.com and they are all pretty expensive for low season (April).

Personally I dont like to use the Orbitz, Travelocities and places like that. I deal directly with the airlines. You may want to call direct rather than using the web. There are many types of fares and in alot of cases you can talk to someone and get a better price than what is online. You just have to watch what you ask for. If you get a restricted fare you can usually get a pretty good deal especially if buying sometime in advance, but you'll pay some hefty penalties if something comes up and you have to change the reservations. Thats the tradeoff. More flexibility = more money.

Trust me I know - even as a platinum elite member of Delta and Northwest, I still have to be careful of getting "screwed". My fiancee and I just came from Vietnam and I had a ticket for her one way for about $600. But our plans got delayed and to rebook when I wanted cost me another $1,000. Likewise, I rebooked my discounted ticket and had to pay another $1,000!!!!!!!!!!! Its really screwed up. One month I can get a round trip ticket from Erie, PA to Ho Chi Mich City for a grand and another is over 2K. Unfortunatley they got us by the "balls".

You can find some good deals on the web if your willing to play the game day in and day out searching. Wish I had something more concrete to tell you!

I just jumped on Delta website and checked roundtrip April 15 for a two week stay from TPE to IAD (Dulles) and its just under $1,300USD each (multiple layover though). TPE - Tokyo (1 hr 40 min layover) - Atlanta (1 hr 35 min layover) - Dulles

Not sure what your used to but that doesnt sound too unreasonable to me.

Try looking into EVAAir.com They do have low season specials and might have one for your route. Otherwise its sometimes cheaper to by two separate tickets instead of one long one, especially if you have separate international and domestic flights.

China and EVA are the two biggies at Taipei.

China has been running some discounts. Nothing is discounted now due to the upcoming new year celebration. April should be better.
