Were preparing for the K1 packet. Actually it has not arrived yet, but were looking online at the forms that will be needed from the US Consulate in Manila. One is the DS 157. Were applying for a fiance visa. My question is---do we need to fill this out? And the other is, line 18. We DONT have flight plans yet since were waiting on her approval. Is it perfectly fine to just say No? Or no and give a reason?

To me a simple no solves it. However my fiancee is very worried and has now made me worried :-o

Also---do I need to attend the interview in Manila even though I live in the US? She is the one applying to come here. The letter from the Visa Center informing us that the case was transferred to the US Embassy did not make it very clear. It was mailed to me regarding her---but the wording suggested I would have to go. I was not sure if the letter was addressing me or her since she is the one applying for the K1. I have heard from a co-worker that I would have to go to the interview from his own experience. I have heard from my fiancee that people in the Philippines don't have there US fiance go to the interview and still pass. This is very important for me to know since I will have to scramble to arrange this if I do need to go there.

My other question is who will they send the K1 to, me or her? She is wanting to just do it all online then call them for the interview. But I'm under the assumption that they will mail us the K1 packet first, and then we call for an interview.

yes, you need to fill out one of that and yes, a NO is an OK answer just because it's the truth. actually if you put in YES, the CO might tell you that you it doesn't affect the outcome of the interview and that it's always safer to wait till the visa is out before booking any flight (just in case there are delays, and there are at times)

No, you don't need to attend the interview, actually it is not advised, but some (since they're already in the Phils, choose to come to the interview, and get through with the excuse (a very good one too) of providing moral support for their loved one

I went to my interview and so people I know, without my then fiance USC. as a matter of policy, the USEM allows in only those who have an appointment to go in. why some are able to go in is either because teh security understands teh need for the fiancee's for moral support, or they just have their lax days, hehe.

just have constant communication with your fiancee. you don't need to spend the time, not to mention the money, to go there, specially when it's not required in the first place.

you will receive a letter that once the petition is approved it will be forwarded to the USEM in Manila and that your fiancee will receive a packet of instructions on how to go about the visa application (medical exam and interview)

the letter will indicate your fiancee's case number (starts w/ MNL). Once you get this number, you can then call the USEM to get an interview schedule.

so yes, you need to wait for the letter because w/out a case number you can't get an interview.

good lucj and god bless!

Not having travel arrangements is not important for a K-1 visa. Just answer "no"

The US citizen does not have to go to the interview. I always suggest you do if at all possible, but it is not required. I suggest this for the sake of the forewign fiancee, not for the consulate. If they will not let you inside, send your passport in with your fiancee to show you are there. she will appreciate you making the effort and being right outside

The K-1 will be put into her foreign passport and delivered to her
