I turn down friend requests a lot. Mostly from people from high school days who I have no desire to talk to anymore.

I don't get high school friends request because my FB name is actually an unknown nickname (to them) and I don't list my highschool under education (so they couldn't find me that way).

However, I did keep one high school acquaintance who was at one time also my next door neighbor, who had a bunch of high school friends on his FB friends list. On one bored weekend afternoon, I surfed their pages (amazing how many people don't restrict their privacy to the public) and got all updated with their lives via wall postings, photos, and profile. Yup, the group I used to hang out with, most work at the cosmetic counter or beauty shops at department stores. Some of them aged pretty badly, LOL.

Very cool to see what people have been doing with their lives in the last 18 yrs or so.

I've had a few friend requests from back home from people who were in the church community I grew up in. I accepted this one girl who was a couple grades ahead of me,,,but she was nice and she still lives behind my parents house so I kind of still have contact.

Anyway - long story short...I've removed her since adding her because I realized I have nothing in common with her...she does a lot of church work and posts about it all the time (which is great for her) but I'm not involved in my parents church so I don't identify with it

Originally I started my FB because I moved here and wanted to keep in touch...but now some of those people I first added aren't really friends anymore....some time I just hide people instead of un friending them....I feel bad :(

I do like that I found my former grade 7 &8 teacher...he's a cool gu (still knows my parents) and I got to tell him how much he meant to me back then - he introduced me to the Beatles in music class! I also like that I found my long lost first cousins on my mum's side (who we never talk to because my mom had a tiff with my aunt 25 yrs ago)...that's really cool that I can get to know them again.

I use FB to keep in touch with my kids on a day to day basis. Most of their friends are on my FB as well as when they were growing up..I was MOM to almost all of them!! LOL... Some have had babies and gotten married, and now, with me leaving the country, staying in touch is so important. I grew up and then raised my family in a small Northern BC town, so walking down the street to the Grocery store, you pretty much waved or chatted to the entire town....I MISS THAT!! So my small town is now Facebook. (does that make any sense??) I enjoy scrolling through the updates and see what is going on..see that so-and-so's baby cut it's first tooth...or MrX finally got that promotion he has been after..Billy graduated FINALLY and Susie saw the light and broke up with the loser! Having my old community on Facebook, makes it seem like I never left..and well...I like that.

I am like others..I have a few that are just aquaintances...but I still end up having a great conversation with them every now and then...and it is always great to have people who have been or are, where you are now (immigration) because seriously..people just don't get it!! And sometimes, having a chat or back and forth through the inbox, you can get a better perspective on things..without worrying if someone else will read what you wrote and take offence to it ( sorry Wyatt...I totally get you were trying to say now...)......

and yes..I would be lying if I didn't take a small amount of pleasure in how messed up other peoples lives are...expecially the ones that $hit on me in my younger days...GOtta LOVE Karma!!!
