And the majority of Americans wouldn't want to live there. What's your point?

No offense to anyone here but it's not as if folks are renowned for their worldliness. Quit the contrary actually and something reinforced by the reality that only 24% of the country has a passport, Now compare that to over 70% in most other first world country. People here tend to stay in their towns, cities and states, which means you are obliviousness to reality. Come on dude, look at Boston and compare it to Melbourne or Sydney. Your last high rise building was built in 1976. Melbourne's last high rise is now the third tallest apartment building in the world.

Beating on about how awesome a country is means squat, when you have zero actual facts or international comparisons to back this assumption up. For example, suggesting a country is the best, because you have Chicago pizza is idiotic. especially when you have not tried any other pizza.

If you look hard enough, you can find something negative anywhere and in anything. So we are a second world country that the world looks to for answers, protection and doing business with.

Which world is that?

It's actually people like yourself who have driven this country into the ground. Where any constructive criticism is deemed as being unAmerican!. Newsflash bud, there are a hell of a lot of countries doing a lot of things better than you. So instead of shooting the messenger, how about trying to work and improve on your shortcomings.

I am keen to know where you have actually traveled. Definitely don't sound like someone who has seen the world, in particular construction projects abroad; that is, since you are in this field.

Let's see what those countries would do without the US. Let's see where where medicine would be. Let's see where the computer and high tech industry would be. Let's see where engineering would be. Most things being done in the rest of the world is being done with US technology.

It's people like you that piss and moan about everything and contribute nothing that detract from this country. What difference does it make where I have traveled? If I went to Australia for 2 weeks would that make me an expert on the world? How about Great Britain? France? How many places must one visit to be as qualified as you?

Don't forget American music, TV and movies.

If BY didn't have an inferiority complex, he wouldn't bash the US in every post. Isn't odd that we are so insignificant yet we are the standard by which other countries are judged? And if the Russians invaded Australia, where would they turn for help? New Zealand? Norway? Finland? One of those top five places to live? LMFAO!

last high rise building was built in 1976.

The recently completed, majestic Trump Tower, along the banks of the Chicago River.

The 92-story structure, which reached a height of 1,389 feet (423 m) including its spire, its roof topping out at 1,170 feet (360 m). It is adjacent to the main branch of the Chicago River, with a view of the entry to Lake Michigan beyond a series of bridges over the river.

When topped out in 2009 it became the second-tallest building in the United States after Chicago's Willis Tower.

It is currently the tenth tallest building in the world.

Mad Max. The Road Warrior. The Year of Living Dangerously.

Well, that's 3 anyway.

There's nothing wrong with Australia. It's a perfectly wonderful country.

So is the USA. So are most countries. Well, all, except for those that are really not so wonderful.

This is where Australia is able to spend its wealth on Socialism. It is because they don't have to spend a huge amount on a military. They know that any country tries to invade them then they would have to answer to the U.S. (Well and the U.K. but even then it will be the U.S.) Every country knows this and makes sure to leave OZ alone OR ELSE. It is this way with many other countries. These other countries are able to have a token military and divert their wealth to Socialism and infrastructure. They are pretty much our little brother but after being there I found it to be more like our little sister. The babes were the one that wore the pants there and the men were pretty much wusses. Not all of them but a majority of them.

I have been there and it is a nice country and the babes were very nice. They were a whiny bunch though. I heard over and over from every babe there that the men only cared for beer more so than woman. Even had one babe that came over to visit and she and I traveled all over and she loved it here. I went to visit her and we traveled a lot. Her and many of her friends I met would love to find real men that would move to Australia to hook up. My friend and I liked each other a lot but I would never live there and she would never live here. Australia was a nice place to visit but no way I would live there or even visit for a real long time. I found it very boring there after awhile and I am not a big drinker. Going out to have a couple of beers sometimes is ok but could never make a life of it day in and day out.

They found that they thought they needed a lot of immigrants to come to that country as the birth rate was not that high and their standard of living was not able to withstand the low birth rate but about 10 years ago they realized they made a huge mistake and are now trying to throttle immigration. The can handle some but not a huge influx as their ecosystem is not able to withstand much more population than what they had now. Their resources were and are becoming strained

Also every economist learned that the over spending during our great depression hurt more than helped. In human history there has never been a successful spending out of economic downturns Never ever has this worked but it keeps being tried. It has always prolonged the agony and usually causes inflationary pressures that the average person wages can't keep up with thus causing even less spending.

Of course economists can be found that say that the huge spending we are doing is justified because it is a new economy and all but I laugh at that. I remember when the dot com craze was hitting its stride and the huge valuations of those companies were happening. The ratios were getting over 40 to 1 and way higher in many cases. Many were saying it was insane but the economists were found who came on the ####### tibe and said this was a new time and new industry so this was all ok. Of course the house of cards fell heavily soon after and many lost their ####.

We can't spend our way out of this. We need to let the weak fail on their own and the strong gobble up the weak. When this happens it opens up new opportunities for business and new and fresh blood to come in to fill voids that are left afterwards. Our government is not our nanny. Our constitution ensures they are not but we are losing sight of this. It is all about state rights that we are losing. Does everyone want a centralized bureaucracy emanating from Washington telling us all how to live and think? I am sure we do not. The sheep may like the idea and all but what about when a new party comes to power? Are you going to trust them like you do this Obama the Socialist? No you will not but you will be stuck with the choice by the actions you take now. Now if we don't like the constitution then there are mechanisms to make changes like we have done many times already. They are admendments.

That's a mighty big building. Quite striking, really. Shame it can't have been built and completed last year, since no new skyscrapers have been finished in the US since 1976.

Do I really have to be a killjoy and defend Booyah? Well, it'd be no fun otherwise ;)

A little bit sneaky there, but he picked his target carefully. The Trump Tower may look sweet and be really tall, but I'm pretty sure the Chicago River is in Chicago and not Boston.

Mind you, I doubt Melbourne has anything to rival the subterranean labyrinth that is The Big Dig

You lie!

The Chicago River was moved to Boston, and the Charles River has been relocated here to the shores of Lake Michigan!!
