Hey VJ'ers

Need a little help/advice. we are in the process of filing our AOS and have just about all the forms together. the "bump in the road" we are having is about the form I-693 or medical exam. She already had an exam within a year but it states that even so, a civil surgeon still needs to certify the form.

"11. I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. Regardless of if you are exempt from a medical exam, you are still required to complete certain portions of the I-693 and have a Civil Surgeon certify the form (and seal it in an evelope). Specifically, you will complete Part 1 (Information about you) of the I-693 and provide both the form and your DS-3025 (if you have it, proving your vaccination history) and any proof of required vaccinations that were completed prior to entering the US. If you do not have a copy of your DS-3025 you will need to provide sufficient evidence of your vaccination history to the Civil Surgeon (talk to the civil surgeon's office to discuss what vaccination records they accept as proof). If you do not have proof of your vaccination history the Civil Surgeon may insist on re-administering all the required vaccinations prior to completing the I-693. Once the Civil Surgeon has has verified that all required vaccinations have been performed, they will complete form I-693 Part 2 (the vaccination section) and Part 5 (the Civil Surgeon's Certification). They will then seal the form in an envelope and return it to you."[/i][/u]

Anyone have any experience with this? anyone file the AOS without getting the certification? just curious. also we are filing a little late [ she arrived in Sept 09 and we are just filing now. her k-1 expires in a few days but we are already married ] i dont anticpate any problems but want to know if anyone has experienced any filing after the k-1 expired. what can i say- money has been tight. any advice is appreciated

Basically your wife doesn't need a new MEDICAL but she DOES need to have her vaccinations transcribed into the 693 form. She will need to fill in part 1, and part 2 (just the vaccination part) and part 5 will need to be completed by a civil surgeon (CS).

Filing after the I-04 expiration is fine in that you won't be denied because of it. It's just a bit scary being the immigrant being out of status.. trust me! :P

Thanks for all the helpful advice. i plugged my zip code to a link on VJ- cant recall which one i was moving so fast- and it gave me a list of civil surgeons in my area. went by with the shot record and got the I-693 back in a day. cost=$35. easy. we are filing asap, just waiting on the fee now to send it off. the only bad part was having to wait a day to get it back- the doctor's office was a little unorganized. I will NEVER go thru this process again but if i had to, i would definitely use Visa Journey for help. The aid and advice you can get on here is invaluable and its all due to people helping each other out. Thanks again.
