Hi everyone!!

My fiancee and I are getting ready to file for the k-1 visa and I just was wondering if anyone could answer my question. See my Fiancee Mehdi is a politcal refugee. He is Iranian but is currently living in Turkey (where him and I met). We meet all the requirements for the visa ...we have seen eachother in person in the past 2 years, we have tons and tons of proof of relationship so thats not a problem but because he is a refugee Im alittle concerned that there could be some problems because of it. He has legal refugee status in Turkey and he is registered with the UNHCR. Ive asked a few people their opinions on this but no one has a clue, even my father who actually works for the US State Dept and Homeland Security cant give me an answer lol...so maybe some on here has been in this situation and can give me some insight. Thanks sooo much in advance for any opinions or advice you all may have!!!!

Thanks

Tamara

Even if he is physically an ocean away, his love surrounds me everyday...

You are not alone tonight

Imagine me there by your side

It's so hard to be here so far away from you

I'm counting the days till

I'm finally done

I'm counting them down, yeah, one by one

It feels like forever till I return to you

But it helps me on those lonely nights

It's that one thing that keeps me alive

Knowing that you wait for me

Ever so patiently

No one else knows the feeling inside

We hang up the phone without saying goodnight

Because it's the sound of your voice that brings me home

It's never been easy to say

But it's easier when I've gone away

Knowing that you wait for me

Ever so patiently

Yeah, you're everything I've ever dreamed of having and

It's everything I need from you just knowing that you wait for me

Him being a refugee shouldn't affect the visa, what they are looking for is that you two have a bonafide relationship. The only potential issue I can see is that there may be a delay due to his having difficulty getting police certs from his home country. Also, due to where he is from there isa high likelyhood of AP (administrative processing = additional name and security checks) after the interview, but that is not necessarily because he is refuge, just because of where he is from.

We didn't have to have a police report from Iran. I know I'm not much help with your question, but I wanted to bump you up so maybe someone who knows will answer.

Good Luck to you both!!!

Thanks so much!!!!...that makes me feel a little better that his status shouldn't be an issue.... but naturally I am still super stressed about the whole process but any relief is a good thing...and hopefully the translations will come in the mail in the next few days and we can get this thing mailed in!!!!!
