hi all,

first post so if its not in the right place I am sorry.. Just would like some info on which option is best. I am from Ireland but am engaged to an American citizen. We want to get married in Ireland but I wanted to go over there for 6 months on the tourist visa before we got married and then after the wedding would apply for Spose Visa (cr-1 or k3). But after reasearching I finding it is going to take a lot longer than i thought to get back to America. The only other quicker way to get to America would be to apply for fiance visa now and marry in American but we really want the wedding in Ireland. Is just waiting the 8-10 months for my visa the only way forward?

Would really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Do you have a B?, you would be unlikely to get one.

And yes.

Why would I be unlikely to get one? I dont have any visas of now. If I went for a B visa now I wouldnt get one?

You can use the VWP and have no justification for a B.

yes, but Id want to stay longer than 90 days.. I would have enough money to support myself and my fiance has money as support too. We kind of want to see places in America and I kind of want to see what its like living there for 4-5months. On this basis I should be able to get a B no?

B is for visiting.

And you can do that on the VWP.

Nothing is impossible, but very unlikely.

I know its for visiting but being there for 4-5 months will give me an indication on how it is to live there as we might not move to USA... VWP is for a max of 90 days.... B tourist visa is for 180days.. 4-5 months is more than 90 days which eliminates the VWP.. I would think the B visa is exactly for people who want to spend more than 90 days there. Maybe you are not understanding me properly?

Why do you think this?

A B refusal could make ESTA tricky and pretty much guarantees a visit to secondary.

You might be lucky.

so basically if you want to go to America as a tourist you cant go for more than 90 days? And you cant apply for a tourist visa?

You can apply.

To the OP: just out of curiosity, why is 4 months of visiting better than 3?

I want to stay longer than 3.. more than likely just over 5 months.. so I can travel a bit there and get a feel for life over there.. plus my american fiance has moved back there and would like to be with her rather than just be on my own in Ireland.

US is the land of the 2 week holiday, it is going to be a major sell.

yeah but my point is once I can assure the visa people of their main concerns which would be am I gonna just stay in USA or will I be working there, there isnt anything that will make me be refused.. As for assuring them.. I will be coming back as my wedding will take place at the end of this year in Ireland and I have a nice bit of money saved up. If the officers are satisfied with this what else can they refuse me for?
