I have hypothyroidism. If I don't take my meds within about 5 hours of the regular time that I take them, I get really bad headaches. Mood swings yes. I have a hormone imbalance so we're not sure what causes them, but they can get really bad. Hubby and I have been married six years and no babies yet. I'm at the point where I think it will never happen for me, so I babysit whenever I can to get my baby fix. It is hard as I am 34 and not getting any younger. So i'm living vicariously through all you gals too!

wow sorry to hear that. Did you have your brain checked (I mean the glands- pituitary/hypothalamus etc). Do you have a general hormone imbalance or just thyroid? Good luck trying to conceive, don't give up. :)

Karen; thanks for your input, and congratulations on your new job! I hope it all goes well with Declan and his new day care. It broke my heart when Ben had his last day at his daycare at my school. One of his teachers cried too! But I am so thankful that he had so many great and really caring people there, even the lunch lady was cool, he is still talking about her! I hope we will find a new day care like this. I just had a great feeling with them the minute I walked through the door the first time.

Kelly: enjoy your 4 days off! That's great! Are you guys doing anything special? Is labor day a good time to go shopping, like Balck Friday? I saw a few ads about sales and we need some furniture and a TV...

Back from the doc :)

Had blood taken for a detailed thyroid profile and another progesterone and HCG. He wants to be updated with my levels. He said that he will compare the first HCG with the second HCG and then tell me when to come in for the first U/S. And he said I don't have to wait until Tuesday to find out what the next step is. He told me to call him tomorrow! He gave me an information sheet (from the American Society of Endocrinology or something of that nature) detailing hypothyroidism and thyroxine treatment. He said most probably he would start me on that once he gets the results back for the TSH. And he said he would monitor it closely every 4 weeks. He said that sometimes hypothyroidism can develop during pregnancy, so it is nothing to be extremely worried about if treated early and watched closely. I am happy to put my care in his trust for sure!

So right now I am trying to relax and not worry too much about HCG and progesterone. Breathing deeply seems to help!

@Rusti: I am sorry to read about not being able to conceive yet. You know, it can happen when you least expect it. Don't stop trying. We were told 4 months ago that because my hubby had a low Krueger factor (it's a % calculated in a sperm analysis, has to do with sperm morphology) we would only be able to conceive via a special kind of IVF ICSI (so expensive, we couldn't even think about it). Well, we ignored that doctor, who was a fertility specialist by the way (comes highly recommended), and we continued to try but without the stress of wondering when it will happen. And then a month or so ago, we decided that it will happen whenever it will happen and were not actively trying. And it happened! :) So don't lose hope! Have you seen a reproductive endocrinologist? (Different from the regular endocrinologist).

Lisa - Will be thinking about you on Monday. Can't wait to see pics! And let me just say about DDD .... I want to make SO many roadtrips to eateries I have seen on that show .... I'll come with you to Chicago to get that burger if we can stop by Hillbilly Hot Dogs in WV on the way (the place looks absolutely ridiculous which I love!!!)

Anya - He is such a cutie :)

Stef - Congrats on the job. personally, I would not disclose that you are pregnant right away. I would wait until you have been there a little while.

I am excited about my new job. Not sure of an exact start date, because the VA has to do background checks and a physical before I can start. What I am dreading though is having to get Declan up so much earlier in the morning. We will have to drive about 45 minutes to get to his new daycare and hubby needs to be at school/me at work an hour earlier than we normally drop Declan off. I am going to try to get him to bed earlier starting now so he will be used to waking up earlier in a month or so.

Deal! Scott is so disinterested in what he calls a 'nasty pear burger' lol. I said 'cman, lets go to Chicago' and he's all 'ok, I'm going to Morton's and you can have your heavy metal pear burger' lol

MARM - sounds like your doc is on the ball and is doing everything he should. If you've been reading this thread, you know that I developed my own complication - Gestational Diabetes - which my doc has monitored very closely, and has actually resulted in me getting more than extra care, and I feel good about how much he's been monitoring me. Try meditation too, I think it helped me a little.

I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 13, hypothyroidism at 25, now i'm insulin resistant. My obgyn upped my dose of metformin to maybe help get my cycles to come around. I lost some weight with the higher dose of meds but cycles are still irregular. We haven't done any brain testing. Doc thinks i'm not ovulating, so it is one of those things where I have a lot going against me. My family doc cautioned me on trying to get pregnant while on the meds that I am taking, so it definitely has to be a conscious decision. Hubby thinks he's getting to old to be having kids (he's 42), but I just won't give up hope until menopause really kicks in! Lol!

Sometimes I think that's when it happens, I really do think stress and anxiety have a lot to do with it. We wanted kids weren't completely trying, but I kinda thought that with my age (I was 36), that it wasn't going to happen. At the time I got pregnant, I was just starting to consider adoption/fertility clinics. But when you stop stressing over it, I think sometimes it allows the body to do what it does naturally.

Stef, it does seem like there are some good sales. I went to Carters store last week and got Laila 22 summer outifts in size 6mos (most are 3 piece outfits) for 57$ I was thrilled. I cant believe how fun it is shopping for a gir l. I will hold off on buying anything else for her until december and january bc that will be when all the fall and winter clothing will go on sale. That will be what I need for those first few months.

We are gonna start painting her room the 3 weekend this month once I have my anatomy US. When thats done we will put carpet down then start the hunt for a new crib, changing table and dresser. Its going to be a few expensive months coming up. Babies are so costly. lol

I just now saw your comment regarding your job interview. Hold off on telling them your pregnant as long as you can. let them see what kind of work you do before allowing them to worry how your performance may or may not be affected by a pregnancy. How exciting! Youve been waitin for so long!! Best of luck

My obgyn and I have talked about clomid, but nothing further. My sister is in the same boat with me, although she was able to get pregnant once but lost it very early. She has since not been able to conceive. It may just not be in the cards for us.

hmm I was thinking pituitary or hypothalamus because a lot of hormones are released from there that act on other organ systems (including some sex hormones that can cause issues with your cycles). They are basically the major endocrine regulators. If people have problems up there (benign tumors or whatever) then their entire hormones can get messed up and by treating just one organ (=thyroid, pancreas etc) the real problem doesn't get dissolved. I could be totally wrong but I'd want to get every test possible, since you seem to have issues with so many endocrine systems.

All the best, I don't think being in your thirties or early 40ies is late to have kids these days. :)

Kelly: awesome thanks! Wow look at you all ready for next summer already!! But I guess I could get a little carried away when shopping for girls stuff! That's a great deal for 22 outfits. I love carters. There's an outlet near us so maybe I'll stop by this weekend. We also need carseats and furniture (looks like we're moving soon), it's definitely going to be an expensive year ahead... I really NEED a job!! :P

Well, I have good news :)

The doc called me himself today and told me my HCG levels were up from 6300 to 10100 and he was really happy about that and he wants me to schedule an U/S and meeting with him on Tuesday. My thyroid profile results are not in yet, but they will be by Tuesday. And my progesterone level has gone from 12.3 to 13.1 So I am very releived about that as well. Hopefully, next week I find out exactly how far along I am (give or take a few days) and I get to see the star of the show on the U/S and get an estimated due date!

Hope you all are enjoying the 3-day weekend. It's a bit chilly on this side, but it is a welcoming change from the hot and humid weather we had all last month. Cheers! :)

Hi everyone!

Just a quick question: What kind of ID does a baby need to fly within the US? Will I need to get her an ID card, passport or anything? I won't be leaving the US, it will be just a cross-country flight.

It is always best to check with the airline, but we always only had to have a copy of the birth certificate (which they never checked anyway)

tweety: not sure, we used Ben's passport for domestic flights. It took less than 2 weeks until we had it in the mail.

so tomorrow is my interview and our closing date is Friday... Now Ben is running a temperature of 104.2 F. I just hope I won't catch whatever he has. Poor little man. Its always so hard to see him sick, he just wants me to hold him all day.

Vi: welcome back! How was the flight?

Birth certificate is fine within the US. We got his passport right away though for international travel. When we flew to Detroit and San Fran they didnt want to see any ID for Jona, though we had the passport with us...

@ Steffi: oh no poor guy! When my men were sick recently it took 8 days before I caught it... so good luck! I kept guzzling emergen-c and thought I wouldt get it, but stopped to early... btw I didnt need to take the antibiotics, it went away by itself!!!
