Yay Marm!

So, I went to the doc's today....my GD is no longer able to be controlled with diet, the past 3 days, my sugar level is slightly elevated. Which now means I'm on insulin starting tomorrow :( Doc said if I wasn't pregnant, my levels wouldn't even qualify me to be considered diabetic, but whatever.

Oh, and he's gonna induce me next week. 2 weeks early.

Oh good to know that she's in Peru... I was wondering!

@ Joyce: We used Pampers before we started cloth diapering, and I cannot say whether it's Pampers or all bleached disposable diapers, but our son had rashes all the time until we switched, ever since, rash be gone. I didn't even make the connection until after I changed. Pampers do have perfume which I personally hate. Huggies do not have it! Then, Pampers in Europe are different. They are not chlorine bleached (chlorine bleaching leaves a residue of dioxine, which is a carcinogen), have no perfume and look even different... I used them during my 4 week stay but had rashes still, my sisters used them without problems until recently when Drymax was added. one nephew got rashes, so they switched to a different brand. The other one would just leak forever (less cotton in the diaper, so they leak for lots of people), so she switched to (they chose store brand diapers, they do the trick and are less pricey). So I personally would not buy Pampers. If you are concerned about environment factors, brand such as 7th Generation, Tushies or Earth Best will be your brands. They also do not bleach their products or use perfumes or such chemicals. Tushies even is free of the SAP gel which doesn't have the healthiest track record anyways (gosh do I feel guilty for not knowing all of this sooner :( ). If you want to go cloth all the way, the easiest way to cd your newborn are prefolds and covers... And then Grovia if you want to once baby fits into it, or Bumgenius, or stay with prefolds - there are so many options! I finally got my stash all set up: we have plenty of prefolds and covers (preemie and newborn sizes up to small), fitted diapers, some all in ones, and then the one size pockets that will fit at some point.

Oh I'm so mad - I bought that Cosco Scenera car seat at Walmart for $39, it's not fancy, but it is rear facing until 35 pounds and hence qualified as a travel car seat to take it to Germany (Jona is rear facing here in his Britax Boulevard, is used to it, and it is important to me to remain rear facing for as long as possible)... After considering how rough airlines treat baggage, I opted for buying this cheaper car seat. So what happened yesterday? I went to Target, saw their car seats, and they have the new Scenera for $39 with side impact structures and rear facing limits of 40 pounds! Arrrghhh I already unpacked the Walmart one and put Jona's name on it....

Congrats, Marm!

Also, congrats Kelly, on your promotion and your (very likely) little girl. I like Laila. :) I hear you on the neverending unpleasant symptoms. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and am still queasy, dizzy, tired, etc. No headaches for a few weeks, tho, knock on wood.

Thank you, ladies, for the feedback on the monitors, wraps, and kid carriers. I think I'll put them all on my registry and see how I do. My sister is hosting a shower for me on Sept. 19. It's a "modern" type with males and beer welcome. Football will likely be on.

Now for a subject I'm sure everyone can appreciate: diapers! I'm looking at various options and would like to avoid using disposables if possible. One of my friends is using GroVia (formerly GroBaby), which allows you to use either reusable cloth inserts or disposable biodegradable inserts. She thinks they're awesome but not the best for a newborn. I'd also consider traditional cloth. I'm open to the possibility that we may end up having to use at least some disposables, and another friend already gave us two big boxes of disposables that her baby has outgrown. People seem to like Pampers.

Joyce, I cannot say enough about Pampers Swaddlers - they rock! We used them on Enzo up until he outgrew size 2. I cried the day he had to switch. We never had any issues or blowouts - yay! After he outgrew the Swaddlers, we moved into BabyDry - no complaints there. I do believe in cloth diapers, we just never really used them. I also think that you could use the Swaddlers until the kiddo fits into the cloth ones. And BTW, Enzo never had a diaper rash in his entire 16 months due to one word: CORNSTARCH! Cornstarch applied liberally and keeping up with your baby's hygiene will do wonders to keep diaper rash and other ailments at bay.

I am anti Pampers lol. To me they stink terribly like chemicals. I have used Huggies since Zaid was 2 weeks old and he too has not had one rash in 28 months of life. I dont use powder, creams, anything, and Im a bad mom, Ill let him pee in it twice before I change him lol. We have had problems with leaks as he got older but we started using Huggies Overnights and they work like a charm

Things havent been great around here. The OB diagnosed me with anxiety and prescribed me Zoloft and referred me to see a therapist. I have been very anxious, stressed etc since the beginning of pregnancy but have done my best to control it. Things got real bad yesterday and I spend the whole day crying. I have decided to not take the Zoloft at this point but am getting a massage, seeing the therapist, and DH has agreed to help out alot more. I have a history of anxiety (3 yrs on Xanax) and have been able to control it without meds for 3 years. I guess the pregnancy hormones got the best of it this time. Keep me in your thoughts please, this hasnt been easy on me.

((((Kelly))))

Pregnancy hormones are a B**ch, its true. Hang in there.

I TOTALLY agree about the pampers smell, I thought I was the only one who ever noticed it. It almost makes me nauseous. Huggies all the way here....

@Joyce As for diapers, it really is a case-by-case basis. I swore I would never buy the name brand. Ha! Hana has the most sensitive skin and got contact dermatitis when 2 months old from quite a few different brands. So...we have been in Pampers Baby Dry since and I cannot say enough good things about them. They have more diapers in them per package than other Pampers brands AND don't have the dry-max stuff in them.

@Kelly Those pregnancy hormones can do some things to you. I am glad you are keeping your OB in your mental-health loop. Hang in there Mama!

@Anna We have the Cosco Scenera's for our second car because they were affordable (we bought the more expensive ones for our main car). I loved traveling with them on the airline because they came with a travel bag. The airline even LOVED when I checked them in that they had their own bag. Also...Vi posted on Facebook a few days ago she took Sophia to a Dr in Peru and they gave her a medicine for her baby. I guess she has gotten a lot better now.

@ Staashi They make swaddlers I think up to size 4 now (or 3-4). I have seen them almost everywhere. I liked the newborn ones that had the pee indicator. :)

Other than the mind trip it's put on me today, I think it's pretty flippin cool ;)

Supposedly, insulin doesn't pass thru the placenta, but blood sugar does. So it's pretty much precautionary right now, to prevent the baby from getting too much sugar. But we're literally talking 10-15 points higher than should be. I called my MIL who used to be a nurse, and told her my nunbers and she was like 'that's all it is?'. So I'll be on insulin like for 9 days max.

I'm going to the hospital tomorrow for more bloodwork, an appt with the diabetic clinic, then having another NST done at the hosp. Been doing them once a week for a while now, and they've all been fine. Now, they want 2 a week. So that's tomorrow. Monday, I have my other NST, Tuesday, I have another sonogram, and Wed I have the doc. I have important personal stuff happening on thurs, doc is at his other office frid. So I'm guessin we'll do it Saturday. But he said we'll wait til he sees me on Wed to pick a date, but that it was going to be 'between 38-39 weeks no doubt'

I'm trying to look at the bright side. No more heartburn soon, heh. And our little man will be here!!!!

Lisa, I am excited for you but a little preoccupied. Can you talk with the perinatalogist and ask if it is ok to go until your 39th week? There is so much additional growing of the lungs that happens in the last few weeks. If your placenta is healthy and the baby is not in fetal distress why not give it one more week? My OB was one way (wanted me to have an amnio in my 38th week) and my peri was another (Oh Hell no!) - I asked the peri to give his opinion to my OB and it worked.

However it flies, I want you to have an easy delivery. I'll be keeping you and the little guy in my thoughts and prayers. :D

Ugh, I typed out a whole reply and lost it. Grrrr.

For the most part, this has been the 'easiest' complication I could imagine. I've regulated my blood sugar with diet for the past couple of months, and that's slowed the weight gain down too. Easier said than done, but try to not stress over it, emotions do play a part in blood sugar. Which I didn't know until know, hehehe. I have noticed that on days when I was stressed, anxious, etc, my BS was higher than normal.

Pls don't take offense, because I can't recall if I know how old you are, but if you're AMA, you supposedly run a higher risk of developing GD. (I'm not calling you old, so pls don't take it that way, haahhaa.) But as I said, it's been manageable up until this point, and it's given me access to more care being authorized by the health insurance, and it's forced me to 'put myself first' wrt trying to keep calm and zen. So, not too shabby, all in all. hheeheh. And developing GD is not like developing regular diabetes...the guidelines are different. That's the thing that freaked me out, because I am terrified of regular diabetes, actually. As I said, doc told me I wouldn't even be on pills with the BS levels I have.

I suggest to anyone who might be borderline, to take up meditation or some calming practice. It really does help.

The thing that freaked me out yesterday was that I am not mentally ready for a baby next week! hahahahahha I figured I had at least another 3 weeks, maybe 4 if I was late, to get settled. Now it's all 'GET READY NOW!' lol. Which is a great thing actually, because physically, it's been a hard pregnancy and I'm ready to not be pregnant anymore. :)

btw....preggo massage? BIOTCH! ;) *jealous*

I thought I replied via my blackberry but I guess not. Well no, Im not AMA, im only 25 but the OB has really overreacted about my weight which has made me nervous. They did an early glucola at 5 weeks gestation and it was normal but I will be retested at 22 weeks.

Double check on the gender is tomorrow afternoon! Cant wait, if a girl is confirmed we will start painting the bedroom in a few weeks and get some new carpet installed. Theres a lot of work to do in there and I know if I dont start now Ill be 35 weeks before I know it

P.S. Ive never had a massage so Im OOOOBER excited, The OB thought it would be good for my anxiety and hey, a 55 min massage for 60$ isnt bad at all

@ Lisa: If your numbers are only slightly elevated and there are no other problems, I personally would insist on going to 40 weeks. Having had a kid at 37 weeks, weighing only 5 lbs 10oz at birth, I can tell you those extra weeks make a humangous difference. The 40 weeker is cooked to perfection, they are not as jaundiced, sluggish, and nurse way better. We had to wake up Jona to nurse, had to use a SNS system, pump every three hours, then the nipple shields and all the trips to the lactation consultants, let alone the friggin heel pricks for bilirubin checks. I would kill to go to 40 weeks!!!! Has the obgyn checked yet if you are at all effaced or dilated? If not, induction will be very hard (Pitocin only works if you are effaced and dilated, otherwise they will try Cervadil to ripen the cervix).

@ Kelly: Hang in there... The hormones are really tricky, and we need a lot of extra support from our partners during this time. Having a toddler at home and being pregnant is quite exhausting! Most people in DH's family just got breaks because the big family is around, and neither you nor me have those perks. That's why DH got us a cleaning lady who comes by once a month for now, and when he comes home, he plays with Jona and does stuff like cleaning here and there and gardening.

I;ll also be doing prenatal massages once I come back from Europe, and once a month chiro visits to position baby right (Jona was posterior), probably more frequent as I approach my due date (I found a chiro who does prenatal adjustments with a military discount, yeah!).

Lol about the AMA, nope not yet there ;)

@ Staashi: Thanks for the update on Vi, I was really wondering where she was!

For the next few weeks, just watch your sugar intake, and your carbs. Lots of water, and mild exercise. That's what's kept mine in line for so long!

You mustmustmust tell us about the massage. I wonder if the table has a hole where the belly goes? lol HAVE A RELAXING TIME MAMA!!!
