Hi ladies,

I've got a moose on my hand!! Sam one month check up (a week ago) show that he weight 12 lbs 9.5 oz (97%) and 23.5 inches long (90%)!! I think he's quite a bit bigger now too, my back is killing me :crying: .

He's still nursing every 2 hours (or actually, acted hungry every 1.5 hours) all day/night. Do you know how to streatch the time to about 3 hours? I'll have to go to work soon and the day care only feed him every 3 hours.

Anya

His stomach is about as big as his fist and breastmilk digests very very fast so if he's hungry, he's hungry. If daycare onlyh feeds him every three hours I'd go and find a different daycare. That's just not right to NOT feed a baby. You can't put a newborn on an adult schedule.

Caro@ que nene para mas delicioso!!! I love his chubby legs and the way he plays with the puppy, too cute :star:

We are living the same day, my first time flying wiht one stop in Miami via American Airlines,it's just a 1hr 40min stop so i don't think it's gonna be hard my only concern is that they will make me pick up all my luggage and the do the check in at the counter for my next flight Mia-Lima, is thta how it is? or I will just have to go to my gate without having to pick up anything?

When we traveled connecting via MIA, we did not have to get our luggage. I think that's the rule unless you're changing airlines :)

Caro

Vi: yeah 99% they will tag your luggage so it automatically gets transferred to Peru on the same flight as you. If your first flight gets delayed and you only have a short stopover in MIA you may end up losing your luggage and they will deliver it a few hours/days later in peru (this happened to me a lot).

@Caro: OMG, thats hilarious, I have a picture of Ben when Daddy was in charge and he was wearing blue and white striped pajama pants, a sweatshirt (in the summer!!) and a helmet!!! (because Ben wanted a helmet) :bonk:

Anya: wow they should feed your baby on demand but chances are once they feed him bottles he will drink more per feeding and then will stay full longer. But they should really go by your babies' needs at this point, not their schedule. As for the feedings- try to fill him up during the day, feed him before bedtime, maybe he will stay full longer. Be patient, it really takes a while for Babies (especially breastfed babies) to get on a schedule.

Hi Anya,

EBF babies are chunky monkeys  Sebas was on the 97% too, but now he's on the 50% :)

The first 6 weeks it feels like they are constantly at your breast, does it not? it does get better, I promise! Wait until week 6 and you'll see. In the meantime, make sure that he is getting a good full nurse every session, and specially getting the hindmilk - is he nursing for at least a good 10 minutes? After he seems full, burp him and change breasts and see if he'll take a little more. Make sure that he's latching properly so that he's nursing efficiently. If he falls asleep quickly while nursing(I had that problem with Sebas) try to keep him awake a little longer by stroking his hair or tickling his toes. If the nursing session is cut short because he gets distracted, try to find a quiet place, and dim the lights. Consider he might be going through a growth spurt AskDrSears: Feeding Frequently

So, to sum up: if he's nursing long enough and efficiently (proper latch), not falling asleep too soon or easily distracted, just wait it out and continue to nurse your baby on demand.

And I totally agree - young babies need to feed frequently - if your day care puts babies on a schedule, run away as fast as you can and get another one!

Saludos,

Caro

Hi ladies,

Thank you for your concern about my day care :) He wont be going there until he's about 12 weeks so by then he should be able to go at least 2.30-3 hours. His doctor also said it's fine to try to go 3 hours but only do it if he's not too distress. He told me to try to distract him for about 10-20 mins longer than normal - I've been feeding him from every 1.30-3 hours.. depending on him. I just hope to introduce a schedual to him slowly, hopefully I can have some life and get things done soon! Also I really hope he sleeps a bit longer at night by the time I go back to work in the middle of September... or I wouldnt be able to function like this.

by the way, how can I post picture? I dont want to store his pictures online :(

@ Kelly: Extremely tired and nausea, but I found a really good remedy! It's homeopathic and I thought it's worth a shot, and it totally works. I have to look up the name, it's complicated. I really am looking forward to week 16 when it is finally safe again to have coffee! My blood pressure hovers at 80/40 and I feel like a zombie, lots of dizziness and such.... Yikes. I feel the baby here and there, but of course no strong kicks yet, it's more gentle at this point. I'm 14 weeks today already, hard to believe.

Kelly: I feel like a bus rolled over me every morning when I get up. A veeery big bus.... I think the heat is killing me. We went to a 3 hour baseball game no shade today... I cant even move. I feel a little nauseous here and there but thank God no vomiting! I'm still not 100% sure what week I am in right now, I think between 11-12 weeks. I have my 12 week scan next monday, so I hope I will get a more accurate picture. Iam eating 90% only fruits and vegetables but my weight gain is still friggin unstoppable. I feel so uncomfortable, I'm not even in the second trimester and I think I'll need my maternity clothes soon. I eat way less than pre-pregnany but I just keep gaining tons of weight. I think its around 18 lbs now. :o I'm huge! I was planning on going surfing next weekend but I can't even fit into my rashguard... :crying:

Anna: I know you probably tried a lot, but have you tried ginger? our grocery store has these ginger-peppermint candies (in the chinese food section) They are gross but they help me with the nausea. But mine isn't so bad. so who knows.

Thankfully my nauseau is pretty controllable. As long as I snack on something I am ok. Yesterday I woke up hungry and tried to make it go away by drinking a ton of water, well BIG mistake! I projectile vomited water 3 times. it sucked real bad.

Stef! 18lbs is quite a bit but you are a skinny girl ! Are you retaining water? Seems pretty common in the beginning, especially in this heat! Im still down about 2lbs pre pregnancy but again, I have much more fluff than you and Anna, lol. I see the doc in about 10 days, Im excited to hear the heartbeat again. A few days after that appointment we will go to the 3d/4d specialty place and find out the gender, CANT WAIT!!!

Anna, I hear ya on the coffee. Ive been having real bad headaches and all I dream about is a cup of coffee helping it go away. I will probably wait til 20 weeks or so to consume caffeine and even then do it in very small amounts. I went overboard when pregnant with Zaid and it caused withdrawal headaches all the time. I dont wanna go through that again.

Kelly: lol the "fluff"... aww I feel bad for you girls, vomiting is no fun. I really hope it will get better for you. Yeah my weight is still within the normal range but I just feel "heavy" haha. And I don't fit into my clothes, it just makes me miserable.. But I guess it could be worse. I don't think it's water, because my ankles and hands are fine. Isn't it a bit early for the gender sonogram? I thought it was more towards the 20 weeks point? I'm so excited I can't wait to hear what you're having!!! I change my mind all the time!! I really want a girl but another boy would be awesome too! I guess we're going to have to have 3 kids. haha.

I wish I could have a coffee too! I took Ben to Barnes&Noble the other day and he wanted a milk, so we went to the cafe but the coffee smell made me gag. sad sad. It's so weird how fast you can go from addiction to aversion when you're pregnant.

Anya: I upload pictures I want toshare online to photobucket and from there you can copy and paste a link to this forum or facebook. It even works with videos.

Oh it is called Coccolus Indicus 6C... It really helps with the nausea! But eating is still hard since everything seems so not appealing. I'm dreaming of a rare rib-eye steak though, which of course, is off limit due to negative toxo antibodies, yikes. :( I'm down in my weight, more than with Jona, but I started gaining weight around 18 weeks with him, so I guess it will be the same with this kid! That was the point when suddenly food was appealing again... I do think I see a little bump though, like hubbie and I can tell, but not with clothes yet. For some reasons I feel like my thighs are getting bigger... Water retention? I'm not too worried about weight gain, I think it's all fine and depends on the mama. SIL and MIL always gained 50lbs and their docs/midwives didn't freak out, every mama is different... :)

Coffee doesn't make me gag actually, but I really want to wait until the "danger zone" is over. Boy do I need it to work. I have never had withdrawal actually from it... It just really helps to pump my blood pressure! I think I'll celebrate 16 weeks at Starbucks

Well at 16 weeks it is possible, but not always, to see the gender. The tec at Kaiser thought Jona was a boy at 16 weeks, but wasn't sure. At that point both genders still look very much alike, but by 20 weeks it is pretty clear as long as baby cooperates. I would really like a girl too, but in the end it doesn't matter. I just hope not to get weird comments, cause if you expect a baby of the same gender as the first people are like ohhh now you have to have a third or poor mama or something like that... I really don't like that.

Well, private parts are fully formed at 16 weeks and the good thing about this place is if they arent "sure" they let you come back for free in a week. Im not gonna make any huge purchases til my 20 week US with my OB but Im dying to know! I really want a boy this time. I want a girl too, but down the road. I really wanna get more use out of all my boy stuff. Of course ill be happy regardless but Zaid is already saying "Brother Laith" to my belly lol

kel: aww does Zaid understand? Ben gets excited every time we tell him, but 2 minutes later he forgets. Like an alzheimer's patient. haha. Do you have to pay out of pocket for that ultrasound? wow I am really really excited too. I am still considering not finding out the sex,but who am I kidding? haha It's way too long til then!!

Mommies: I know we recently had this conversation; I am taking Ben to Germany in a little over 1 week. So far I never needed that notarized letter from the daddy that "authorizes" that I can take our child out of the country. But I really want to be on the safe side, and our friend is a notary. Is there a form we have to fill out or just a piece of paper that Chuck has to sign that states that it's ok with him for us to travel? And also- they would only ask us for that paper when we leave the US, right?

Stef, insurance doesnt cover it, I am paying out of pocket. Its a specialty place called the Belly Factory. Its strictly for fun and has nothing to do with the medical field (aside from them being certified ultrasound technicians) It will cost about 70$ for a 20 minute CD a plush bear with the babys heartbeat on a soundbox in it and the gender determination.

Chnst@ it's just a simple letter mentioning thta you are taking Ben going on vacation to Germany from ---- to ------ and signed by him, very simple. They asked me for that paper coming back from Peru, here they didn't ask I guess because they saw me with my hubby at the counter
