OK, this is all good information! It seems that the pack & play (is "playpen" an outdated term now?)/bassinet combo might be a good approach. Also, a swing is coming highly recommended.

I hope the sick kiddos are better! The very thought of a sick kid/baby is giving me fits of anxiety.

Joyce, I couldn't have made it, nor anyone in my family could have, without a swing. They are sooooooooo helpful. Pack n' Play was awesome, too.

Mommies

I ended taking Sofia to the doctor's office on Monday, because of the horible cough she has, it's being over two weeks and she stills cough really bad, we were thinking thta myabe she has some type of allergic reaction but he said that she is perfectly fine, the lungs are fine, throat is fine but as soon as we came home and i put her to sleep she started coughing again. Somebody recommended me the Hyland products and I found one of them for coughing (for kis from 2-6 years old) at CVS but I forgot to bring it to the Dr's office and show it to him :bonk:, what to do? my chil is not getting any better :crying:

We are going to Peru in two weeks!!!! just Sof and me... and we are not flying direct the RT this time  , going there is with a short stop in Miami but coming back we got it!

Twila@Any advice about the flight? last time i took her to Peru she was 9 motnhs and she wasn't walking so it was pretty easy but not she is super active, i saw the pics of the twins on the plane.... i am a little nervous.

Sofia is "singing" the ABC, she sounds too cute trying ti sing it, of course you won't hear the real ABC tries, now she is making more sense of what she says, like for example she says " tete pis" = boobie please, and she says it in english and spanish, or whe she sneezes and we say God bless you she will say 'THANK YOU" OR Gracias, oh my little one is growing up really fast.

Baby items: the Boopy pillow is my best friend :star:

@ VI: You don't need to show Hylands to your doctor, it's homeopathic and has no side effect, worst case it doesn't work. You can surely use those products. Red bark cough syrup from your health store is something that helps a lot of people. If she has had the cough for a long time, how come they didn't do a swap for pertussis? The vaccine simply lowers the symptoms, but neither prevents transmission nor infection. It usually manifests as a long cough for a vaccinated person and is highly underdiagnosed. Both my sisters had pertussis as children despite being vaccinated fully (with the much more potent DTP instead of the now used DTaP) and it pretty much was like what you are describing. It is important to rule it out because she might be infectious for young infants to whom the disease is dangerous. I hope she gets better soon.

@ Joyce: Hm I didn't find the swing all that great. Also back home doctors don't want you to put them in there for too long because of spinal development, I forget the whole thing, my MD sister sent me links and articles when Jona was little. We borrowed one for about 2 months or so and he had outgrown the weight limit anyways by then (it was 20 pounds).

Yay for you! My suggestion -- bring tons of little toys and snacks. We just kept constantly distracting them (M&M's were the best). It wouldn't have been bad if it were not for all the delays. I told my husband it was a good thing we didn't go to Morocco with them this summer because I don't think they could have dealt with the long flight at this age. Maybe when they are 3.

Vi: wow I'm a little shocked that the pediatrician didn't do any further tests with that history. Hey if you want to I can give you a phenomenal Pedi office (they're in Tuckahoe/Scarsdale right off the Bronx River pkwy/Tuckahoe train station). They are very thorough I love them.

If she is coughing that bad than there IS something that needs attention asap especially since you guys are taking her on a long plane trip. Does she have a low grade fever ? A temperature that is low (99-100.9 degrees) even if she doesn't feel warm check her temp (rectal or axillar to be accurate). Some infectious diseases come with a low grade fever and it's often overlooked. Is she tired/more exhausted/throws more temper tantrums than usual? Does she sweat a lot at night? Does she cough up stuff like mucus? a lot or only very little? What does the mucus look like? Try to pay some attention to more unspecific stuff like that. It could be allergies, but it could also be an infectious process and only an x-ray or a skin test (PPD) will clarify that. I would definitely get back to your doctor or go somewhere else because a cough that bad for that long needs some investigation. Yay for going to Peru, so happy for you!

tnh: yeah the wipe warmer was a life saver. We still use it and he also lets me wipe his face/hands with a warm wipe rather than a cold wipe.

Apropos wipe warmer, I was totally jealous that my sisters in Germany have changing table heat lamps. I couldn't find that anywhere here.... So awesome and makes those early diaper changes much, much easier. I saw some in Walmart in the reptile section, maybe I'll try it?!

@ Vi: I completely agree about insisting on a deeper check-up. I'd want a blood draw (isn't that bad at that age, I swear) and definitely a check for pertussis (dont worry, if she has it, she will be fine, the vaccine vaccinates against the toxoid that is produced by the bacteria which is released in the lungs and makes it so bad, with being immune to it, it's not as bad, just lingering and annoying), strep and such (one swap in her mouth should do). You can also do the Quantiferon Gold blood test instead of the TB skin test, as that is pretty painful (at least I find it) and you have the hassle of having to go back to the office. The blood test is very reliable and if they do some blood work anyway, just another vial.

Anna: What about a heating blanket instead? If you turn it very low, that should make it comfy for the baby.

tahnk you so much for your advice, you all read my mind i was definitely thinking about the pertussis, I'm watching the commercial over and over and it defintile sounds like Sofia's cough and it's not going away. Not fever, not mucus, just the cough. I'm going to call the Doc tomorrow again to see if I can bring her. I'll keep you posted

Didn't think I would ever have to explain to hubby that just because they might be the same color, plaids and stripes are not appropriate when worn together. I have to work weekends here and there so he is home with Eman and I am honestly thinking of putting out Eman's clothes before I leave. After three years, you would think he would have a clue on how to dress a child. It's like look, do what you do when YOU get dressed! lol...my poor baby...

Daddies are clueless when it comes to clothes :) Justin has Sebas in the mornings, and one day he had him wear pajama pants (white with little brown elephants), a blue onesie and brown and green socks  On the plus side, he bought him a ton of rock tshirts. If you want to spot my kid in the class, he's the one with the ac/dc tshirt

Sebas is 10 months and a half (yikes!). He is such a fun baby, always getting in trouble. He is so curious and strong willed  He's protesting baby food and wants more grown up (finger) foods...he looooves ground beef!. He's standing on his own for short periods of time, but no steps yet.

And he loves Cayenne! those two are best buddies. Here's the crazy kids playing tug-a-war

What a cutie! I love how he waits for the dog to grap the rope and then gives it to him. LOL.

We are going to Argentina on the 13th! Check your flight - because it's the off season, our flight is still wide open. so, with some luck the airplane won't be full and it should make things easier :star:

Hi ladies,

I've got a moose on my hand!! Sam one month check up (a week ago) show that he weight 12 lbs 9.5 oz (97%) and 23.5 inches long (90%)!! I think he's quite a bit bigger now too, my back is killing me :crying: .

He's still nursing every 2 hours (or actually, acted hungry every 1.5 hours) all day/night. Do you know how to streatch the time to about 3 hours? I'll have to go to work soon and the day care only feed him every 3 hours.
