Runny noses and cough really are not a big deal. It takes seven days to make her feels better no matter if you give her any medication or not. It normally doesn't really bother little kids like it bothers us. You might spray some breastmilk in her nose if you can or just use saline drops to keep her nose free. That's about all I'd do. I'd just go on with my everyday routine after all.

After a series of tests and examinations, my cousin found out that the reason she lost the baby was because she has blood clots. The doctors said that they are surprised that she was able to carry for as long as she did. She is going to have to get an MRI done to see how many she has and can never be on birth control. If she were to get pregnant again she would have to give herself a shot everyday. At least she now knows what happened and that there is hope.

my sister had blood clots with her first and second babies and luckily delivered them healthy. She had a very tough 3rd pregnancy last year and had to inject herself with heparin every day and for a few weeks after the baby ws born, but her and baby are doing great now. I'm glad they found the cause for your cousin and that they are able to treat it.

@Vi: do not give her Benadryl for a runny nose and cough unless your pediatrician gives you the ok (usually Benadryl for children under only if there are severe allergies). Also NO cough syrup. Not even the one for children. Lots of fluids, saline and tylenol or motrin if she has a fever. If her cough gets worse take her to the doc and have her checked out in case she needs a prescription. I hope she feels better!

@ Vi: Watch her - if she is just bothered by a stuffy nose, it's ok. A low grade fever is fine too and doesn't necessarily need medication. What really helps is a humidifier to loosen the mucus, a nice bath, and if she likes it, chamomile tea, which my parents always gave to us when sick. Keep an eye on her at night and for signs of it getting worse. I hope she will feel better soon, but as long as she just has a runny nose it's ok. We've had three runny noses so far and never did more than the humidifier and prolonged evening baths.

Went in for an OB appt today at 10w1d and nothing really happened lol. The doctor mentioned she wouldnt be able to find a heartbeat via doppler but I asked her to try anyways. Well, she couldnt find it, so I have to go back in 2 weeks. I mentioned to her that Ive been feeling super anxious so she drew blood for hyperthyroidism and Im waiting for those results. We shall see. All in all Im pretty bummed I didnt get to hear the HB and I hope these next 2 weeks pass quickly bc I cant wait to know everything is ok and to be done with the first trimester

We've been following the leading science on early infant development.

This is at one month old:

Lastdayonemonth.JPG

He was walking by holding on to both your hands since two months old.

He just turned seven months old two days ago. He's been walking by holding on to just one of your hands for weeks:

walkonehand.JPG

Climbs up on the bed by himself. Been doing that for a long time too.

We didn't teach him how to crawl but he was crawling all over the place at five months because of the exercises we were doing.

We're working on reading. He's heard the ABC song over 1,500 times since he was a zygote. I was singing it to him every day through the womb since conception. Then with illustration on the computer after birth.

We hear a lot of "babies can't do that" while they are watching him do whatever it is they say he can't do. About the only people we can talk to with complete understanding are the scientists who did the studies. They've been very encouraging.

One of the scientists explained to us why some people are outright antagonistic about it. She calls it "cultural conditioning". Some people think the only way to raise a baby is what the majority of people in the culture are doing.

I don't understand the whole 'training baby' thing but I also don't care about a whole lot about what scientists say (especially if you don't have the time to link that study here, too). I have two kids, one sat at five months, stood at seven month, crawled at eight months and walked at one year. The other one didn't sit until eight months, never really pulled up, crawled at eleven months and walked at one year. Tadaaa..both without training. When they send their resume to Harvard...nobody will care how old they were when they crawled or sung their ABCs.

I didn't think you could teach babies how to crawl. Don't they just do it themselves? At least all the babies I have babysat/known have learned to crawl on their own. I would rather go with my gut and instincts then rely on a bunch of scientists and their studies.

ITA. I get a kick out of that "My Baby Can Read" commercial. Some people get really competitive about milestones. Everything I've read suggests that it doesn't make a bit of difference in the long term, developmental delays excluded. At this early age, I prefer to have him do things when he's ready, but I do think that the approach has a lot to do with culture.

@ jenn: ooohh Baby can read... And stuff like that... Gosh, babies have their own schedule and know when they're ready to crawl, walk and talk... I'm not pushing it. Helping along with nice books, lots of interacting and talking is another story... It's hard to put into words, but some parents expect their 3 year old to read Hemingway I guess. Kids should be kids! I just recently came across an article a mother of a 4 year old, who opted against signing her son up for all sorts of sports and classes, so instead of a 7 day schedule he has like 2 things per week he goes to and all the other well-to-do parents are shocked... But she argues he also needs time at home and just play, being a child. When I was 4 I only went to preschool, but had no lessons or classes in anything, there wasn't even organized sports for our age group! And I hate when parents start like oh but my child could talk in full sentences at 6 months and she's a perfect ballerina at three... It's fulfilling their dreams through their kids life. Shudder, like those toddler and tiara parents (only saw the preview on TLC and wanted to throw up!)...

Otherwise, I'm 11 weeks along now and nausea just eased off. I'm glad I didn't take the meds as my sister looked at them and totally disapproves... Phew. I also changed from the obgyn/CNM practice to a freestanding birthing center and couldn't be happier. Several things had come up with that obgyn and her utter rudeness and ignorance of informed consent drove me to the switch. I'm glad I did it now early on so I don't have to deal with stress like this in later pregnancy!

Well, congrats on your baby walking - if you're happy with that. All I know is that my mother kept saying to DH and I - "you do not want Enzo to walk too soon because it will be only a month or so after that he'll be running and into everything. And she was right! Enzo learned to walk around 11 1/2 months, by a year he would walk on his own. The bummer about it all was that once he learned to walk he didn't want to hang out in his corral, which had been a godsend in our world of babyproofing. So to you, RLogan, best of luck on that walking thing at 7 months because you're farked when it comes to containing them. Just sayin'.:thumbs:
