So yesterday was definitly eventful. I woke at 6am and started preparing for guests. We bbq'd with friends and family while Zaid had a blast playing with the other kids. After the bbq we went to the local fest, let Zaid ride some carnival rides, ate some nasty funnel cake, and watched fireworks from 930-1030pm. Zaid managed to miss his nap yesterday AND stay up til 11pm. He is still sleeping with daddy this morning (its now 930am) and im packing bags for the zoo today. Its funny, when Im EXTREMELY overly busy, my naseua seems to be gone. Maybe I just dont have the time to think about it, but i swear i didnt gag or dry heave once yesterday, now this morning, I feel awful.

We have the zoo today and leaving for vacation tomorrow, I still have a 2000 word essay to write tonight (due tomorrow) I feel like im really running myself thin this week, lol. Too bad I cant consume crazy amounts of caffiene to make me feel better :(

I don't feel sick at all anymore since last night, I am super tired but no more sickness! I really hope it stays like that. I agree with Miss Bollinger, I look 6 months pregnant in the afternoon, I feel like my whole body swells up. After 2 terrible days of withdrawals I am now caffeine free too. (ok ok I had a coke last night) but no more coffee.

Where is Caro?

Mommies I'm potty training Sofia, she is 15 months but she is a pretty smart kid so I'm giving it a shot, she sits in the potty without complaining, she "reads" and plays with some toys, nothing have happened and I promised myself than I'm not going to get frustrated, I'm sure she will have alot of accidents but thta's how they learn right?

I tried over and over again with Eman. I didn't want to push him and waited until he was ready. I found that pull-ups did not work for him. It was just a reason for him to not try and he would treat it as if he were wearing a diaper. I bought him underwear and he was not completely potty trained until about 3 weeks ago. I had been trying since he was 2. He is almost 3 and a half years old now and doesnt wear diapers/pull-ups at all, not even at night. I think the key thing with me was not pushing him and trying patiently over and over. I kind of thought it would never happen and almost lost hope. Just give it time, she will do it when ready.

Pushing a kid is never good. It's a fight that only the kid will win, there's nothing you can do as a parent and if they feel like they are pressured too much kids will usually regress. Same goes for a move or sickness. Adam was a little over 2 years old when one day he took his diaper off and within about a week he went to the potty by himself, we had hardly any accidents. He was potty trained and completely out of diapers (even at night) at about 33 months (so just short of his 3rd birthday).

Allie on the other hand started going to the potty at around 21 months (so about five weeks ago) bur she'll pee in her underwear as soon as she has it on. She doesn't understand to tell me and pull down her underwear just yet. As long as she's naked, she's fine. So i let her run around naked at home and we'll see what happens. She's not even two yet so she's very early (but I guess normal for a girl as they are usually potty trained earlier than boys).

Ben doesn't get it either whenever he wears underwear or pull ups he's just letting it go. We had a huge poopie in his swim shorts yesterday, we had to hose him down, it was gross! The one thing he does though, when we are at the pool and he has to go pee he has watched other kids go into the bushes behind the fence, so he runs to the fence, says "peepee on de fence" and tries to pull his swimshorts down, but most of the time it's too late.

I think you have to be consistent and patient, accidents always happen.

I don't know when my actual due date is yet, I had some problems last week with cramping and spotting so I went to see one of the midwifes. They drew blood but they didn't do much else, no ultrasound or anything and they moved my "confirmatory" appointment to the 21st. So I guess 2 more weeks til I find out. It's kind of weird because the blood tests and the exam kind of confirmed that I am pregnant. I think I am due somewhere between Feb 22-March 1.

@ Steffi: Have you had a second beta HCG?

Potty training... I'm not pushing it. We try, explain, be patient. He pooped a couple times in there when he was younger and surely would now if I just put him on there while pooping, but I feel that might be counterproductive - I don't want him to develop negative associations with the potty. You can't force it... Plus their bodies have to have the ability to feel that they have to pee and poop, and usually girls develop faster. I'm confident though that he'll want to loose the diapers sooner rather than later... He hates diaper change, so each time he complains, I tell him with a huge smile how learning the potty will save him from diaper changes... Hopefully soon, we call him the Poopzilla since he poops 3-4 times per day, yuck.

Arrgh this is so frustrating! So they obgyn prescribed me Phenargan (promethazine), which is a pregnancy category C drug and not safe when lactating. She said on the phone oh but it is safe when nursing, despite the package insert and FDA disagrees. Why can't they prescribe Zofran, which is a safe RX? I hate to call again and ask for a different RX, and especially since I already paid for the other stuff only to learn it's not safe. Great.

Phenergan is one of the most common prescribed drugs for nausea, it's an antihistamine and therefore cheap compared to Zofran. Some insurances don't cover Zofran, so maybe that's why doctors like to prescribe phenergan first? I haven't heard of any adverse reactions or fetal compromise, but I don't think it was tested on pregnant humans if it is a category C. I don't think you ob/gyn had any negative experiences with that drug, or he/she wouldn't prescribe it to you. but on the other hand I would be a little nervous too. good luck, I hope you can find an alternative.

I had Phenegran with DS2 but it didn't work all I did was sleep! I got Zofran this time and OMG I was backed up all the way to last Thursday! Zofran is what they prescrib for Chemo patients and it does work but at $25 a pop a lot of Insurance doesn't cover it same as Reglan (sp?) Also expensive and questionable if they will cover and what amount.

My insurance does cover Zofran. I don't want a C drug when a B drug is available, I also wouldn't have a problem to pay for it myself. That's not the end of the world! I read carefully through the information and studies available, and Phenergan is associated with late pregnancy loss. There are very little studies, showing that overdose in pregnant rats leads to fetal demise and that study about late pregnancy loss. It's too little information for me to take it freely when a better alternative is available.

I think if they are thinking of saving money, shouldn't they ask me first if I'd prefer the more expensive, safer drug or the cheaper one? Also it just isn't safe for breastfeeding, and the ob said it was, but it really isn't. I'm glad I'm changing practices to the birthing center midwives. Stuff like that is just not okay in my book. They haven't called back yet, let's see if they will, but I'd rather suffer through nausea than taking a non-tested drug. Plus like Ms Bollinger said, it makes you super tired, I'm tired already, I can't fall asleep while watching Jona, he's gonna run away (knows how to open all locks)!!!

Congrats Anya!!

@vi: I was going to start potty training Ben but I read about it and they should be able to communicate and take off their pants by their own in order to do that, and Ben is not there yet. So I'm waiting. Maybe a couple months.

nothing new around here. Ben is throwing terrible temper tantrums, mostly because he wants to go outside, but besides that, all good.
