Grrr wont let me edit....

I had my first appointment with the midwife and it went all fine. We just talked and could waive all tests as requested (did bloodwork right before we started trying, so no need). I'm just going to do a urine culture which she recommends to all pregnant women and another CBC since I tend to anemia. I'm apprehensive about meeting with the obgyn next time that she practices with. I have some things from Jona's birth I do not want to happen again (aka too much monitoring and pushing flat on my back, HELL). If I don't think they'll honor that I will switch to Denver to the Birthing Center which is amazing. I just don't want to drive so much (2h!!!)... So I hope they will work it out with me, and the midwife really was super nice and spent an hour with us. The obgyn with Jona never spent more than 5 minutes with us and already had his hand on the doorknob all the time...

DH's cousin had her son today at the Stanford Hospital. She agreed to induction yesterday at 40 weeks (well her doctor pushed her hard, she didn't want to really, but he pulled the dead baby card), though she wasn't effaced nor dilated they started with Pitocin. After 10 hours on Pitocin she agreed to an epidural and then she dilated no further in the following 12 hours and she ended up with a csection about which she is very unhappy. But she's ok and a huge family is there to help them.

Induction at 40 weeks? Dumb. Almost everyone I know who has been induced had bad results. Zaid was 9 days late and I was ok with that. Your poor cousin. Glad to hear shes ok though.

Glad to hear your appt went well. Hope this OB is willing to meet your needs.

I was induced, but only because my water broke and I didn't have contractions. I am so glad he came out naturally though. So how long after the due date is it okay to get induced?

@ Nizzy: It depends really... All women I know here get induced really soon when they hit 40 weeks because the obgyns get nervous. It is true that starting at 40 weeks and progressing the risk of a placenta failure and such gets up, but with good monitoring it shouldn't be a problem. I'm surprised Kelly that you were "allowed" to go that far!!! Here in town everyone gets induced even before 40 weeks, it's nuts... My sister back home was overdue and they just did NSTs every other day to check baby and then at some point her water just broke and she went into full blown labor. I know that her doctor and most midwives at least will induce for sure at 42 weeks, at that point the risk just gets higher than the benefit....

I just feel bad for her, all the relatives there said it just went downhill, like you could see how one intervention hit the next with no good results... I just don't get why they started Pit when she wasn't effaced, shouldn't they have started with a prostaglandin like Cervadil? I read so much about it and remember that Pit won't do much when you are not effaced and the cervix is high and closed. Anyways, she is doing good and everyone is there for her. Her little boy is doing great as well.

BABYFEVER! May I join the preggers club again? :D I found out I am pregnant today. Hubby thinks its the coolest fathersday present ever (could have saved myself the money for the watch, duh..) I am still in panic mode (a little). But really excited too (except that I bought margarita stuff yesterday) . It's crazy to think we have tried for 6 months and nothing happened and this month with Ben being sick and all that stress of graduating and bada-boom.

I think I should be due around end of february next year.

Anna: yeah if she really wasn't even effaced then cervadil should have been the first choice. Thats just crazy. It's frightenening to see how much goes wrong here everyday. I love all the technology over here but I don't ever remember seeing so much incompetency in Germany. Although if all looks well I wouldnt mind being induced past 41 weeks, having seen a few stillborns in Germany. It is a lot more common past the due date. But if the pregnancy was all well then there is no need to induce at the due date. so weird. Doctors just strive for the "perfect" baby regardless of what mom has to go through in order to achieve that.

Missbollinger: OMG I'm so sorry you are so sick. I really hope that I don't have to go through that. Last time I was very lucky. A little nausea but that was it. I already feel exhausted all day long everything hurts when I get up in the morning. I had that with Ben too (and running to the bathroom every 2 minutes)

Congrats to all the newly pregnant mommies! Wow! Another baby boom soon!

Well...Hana is still sick, but not as bad. She finally had a wet diaper tonight after 24 hours of not much. I kept trying to get her to drink, but she was so nauseous / had a bad tummy, that she wanted nothing. I think we are on the downhill slope now (thank goodness). I miss my troublemaking little girl!

I am starting to get nervous about our flights to Vermont coming up in 22 days! Thank goodness my mom is going too, but keeping two 18 month olds occupied is going to be fun!

Wanted to add; Anna, I have 3 doctors in my practice. All 3 different types of doctors. One was all about me scheduling my delivary date by induction, one liked scheduling csections for no reason, and the other, believed in letting things happen naturally, she was the one I chose to see all the time and luckily was on call the day I delivered Zaid. At 40wks1day I had a NST and baby was great. I was monitored every other day til the 9th day when I was dilated to a 6 and waterbag still in tact. I took it upon myself to go to the hospital. Even at 6cm my body would not go into active labor, so they did need to give me a teensy bit of pitocin to regulate contractions. But I swear the pain was completely tolerated until i was 9cm and had my water broke. The only reason i opted for an epidural is bc the nurse scared me into one. I will not get an epidural with this baby. Something I will have to discuss with my doctor. I do want pain meds, but the fact that my epidural was put in, taken out, and put back in, and NEVER worked, is sure proof its not for me.

thank Kelz! :) wow what a story ! I remember you didn't have to push long either with Zaid, right? See I had the exact opposite experience. I had contractions and dilated to 10 cm within 7 hours but it was soooo intense (especially after the water broke at 5 cm) I don't think I could have ever done it without the epidural. It was like heaven when it kicked in and I had 2 absolutely chillaxing and painfree hours (before I had to push for 2.5 hours). So usually the second time around the pushing time is much faster so I really want to try without the epidural, but no promises, haha. I have absolutely no pain threshold I guess.

Stef, quite the opposite. I pushed for 2+ hours. Zaid was posterior and was not coming down. Suction thing was used to bring him down bc I just couldnt do it by myself.

@ Kel: Jona was posterior too, but we got him to turn throughout labor. The nurse brought a birth ball and put it on the bed so I could be on all fourth but put my torso on the ball for support. It did make him turn, but not all the way, and he also left one arm in front of his face, but it definitely worked to turn him a little. I pushed too for 2.5 hours but I got him out that way without assisted delivery... Movement and position changing really helps and I'm glad we had a really nice nurse throughout labor (the postpartum one, ugh not so much). I hope i will make it to February, but I doubt it frankly. I think I'll have a January baby since my cervix just dilates early, but maybe I can keep baby in longer this time. That would be really nice!

Gosh I got spider bites and now have an allergic reaction to it. It is horrible, itchy all over, hives, and my eyes were swollen shut. Death to all spiders. They are ugly and dangerous. BAEH!!!! I will send Paul to Lowes today to buy really poisonous spider poison for the patio. like the biggest chemical club he can find please.
