Anya ~ it's not too long now! :)

My kids are a bit older (5) and are starting kindergarten in Sept. I know their personalities and know that they don't hit or anything like that unless they are seriously provoked. My son Jonathan had a confrontation with a little boy at soccer practice, I let him handle it just to see what he'd do. The little boy swatted at him and he said "don't do that" and he did it again and Jon said again "I told you not to hit me." So the 3rd time he swung at Jonathan, Jonathan grabbed his arm and pushed him away and said "DONT HIT ME." I was really proud he stood up and defended himself. Of course the little boy ran to the coach and told the coach my son had pushed him  Good thing me and 2 other parents saw the whole thing and told the coach the way it really went. Of course this kid's mom was on the phone and yelling at her other child and not paying attention

I like to step in, but they aren't always going to have me to defend them.

Well, after a while at the OB its confirmed. Im 6 weeks and 2 days and was able to see the heartbeat through an ultrasound. Im excited and relieved that everything looks good so far. Blood pressure was great, despite my extreme nervousness... Downside is Doc isnt happy about my weight and suggested I do a early glucose test next month. I am going to watch very closely what I take in, gestational diabetes scares me..

I hate when parents don't watch their kids as well. We took Hana and Zak to the indoor play area at the mall a few weekends ago. The older kids (6-8 y/o) were running into my two. It made me mad so we went over to the infants and crawlers area. Some kids came running in. My mom and I ended up yelling at them and told them that this was an area for little kids and they needed to watch out for them or go to the other side.

I got to see Hana and Zak really play with two other kids their age today when we went to visit with the daycare provider who will be watching them in the fall. It is interesting how Hana jumps in and runs around and Zak sits back and observes for a LONG time.

awesome news! congrats. You will be fine. wow it really seems that they are over careful with the gest. diabetes these days.

Anya: all the best for a smooth and easy delivery (ha, like it's ever easy, right?) kudos for working until your due date!

Kelly - you will do fine. Actually, you might even lose a few pounds with the diet they give you. A solid 1800 to 2000 calorie diet will work wonders and get your walking in - I know it is tough with time...I wish I had more, but you'll see a difference.

I'm actually a believer that the GD test should be ran on everyone at the beginning of their pregnancy.

I'm curious, is glucose testing part of a regular annual physical in the U.S.? With diabetes (not gestational diabetes) being one of the major associated factors of hypertension, stroke, heart disease and kidney disease it would make sense to screen as aggressively in the general population as they do it with pregnancy.

Kel: I agree with Staashi, follow the prescribed diet as much as you can, I have seen mommies in postpartum who were 2 lbs lighter on their due date than they were at the beginning of the pregnancy. I was totally dumbfounded, but I guess that's also a very individual incident, just like the woman who gains 85 lbs in 40 weeks and delivers a 5lb baby, haha. don't stress it too much, as long as your blood pressures and other values are within normal and you eat a somewhat healthy diet. I don't think I was eating unhealthy or excessively when I was pregnant but I still gained 50 pounds! And the doctor lectured me every single time, although I was never overweight, had perfect blood pressures and labs (and a perfect baby hehe)

Anya: uhm sex  or driving over bumpy roads ( i tried that one the day before I went into labor. The car needed new shocks, but I got what I wanted). Don't worry about being "only 50% effaced" I was 50% effaced on tuesday morning and doctor told me he didn't expect me to deliver for another week and less than 24 hours later I was already a mommy. :) good luck, keep us posted!

SEX definetely...it didn't get me into labor but I dilated an extra 2cm and effaced to 80% (from 4cm to 6cm dilation and from 25% to 80% effacement) basically over night. My friend had 'relations' the morning before her babygirl was born...8am lovey dovey time, 10am labor started 8pm babygirl born.

However, it didn't work for me with Adam whatsoever :).

Good luck.

I hope it happens soon for you Anya! At the same time, you should appreciate your time before the baby arrives. I know it's almost impossible to think that way right at the end, because I didn't either! lol Treasure your massage, read through some magazines, watch movies, sit and relax doing absolutely nothing! Baby will be here before you know it. :)
