ahhh yes, BabyCenter. There's a bunch of wackos there!! I got tired of reading about "how to induce labor" when these nutjobs weren't even at 40 weeks yet, or "what is this goop coming out of my hoo ha?" or "Waa waa, nobody bought stuff off of my registry," or "my MIL is a psycho" or "my DH cheated on me/is in jail/got another girl pregnant/is a drunk."

I could go on and on... but to be honest I'd rather watch the Maury show than read this garbage. "You are NOT the father"

An excellent synopsis, Suzy!

My appreciation for the low-brow is accelerating by the day.

I think one of my all-time favorite posts on there (I'm using "all time" loosely since I've only been reading BabyCenter since February) was in a thread about gender intuition. This chick said, and this is barely paraphrasing:

OMG!!! I totally believe in intuition!!! You totally know!!! With my first, I knew it was a girl, but then I changed my mind and decided it was a boy! And it turned out to be a boy!!! I was totally right!!!

Very exciting news, Julie, so happy for you!

Also congrats to Gabby!

I was one of those crazy protective moms that didn't have Adam out in public until he was over 3 months old. My whole family was a little wacko about the whole H1N1 thing and had me freaked out. I was so taken aback when one of my coworkers brought his 2-week old into the office. I remember being upset about having to take him to the hospital to get bloodwork done for his jaundice during his first week, thought he might catch something. So glad he's older now and I'm not worried about it so much.

As for pregnancy forums, I really enjoy my expecting club board on iVillage.

@Gabby...my family is nuts about Christmas. So...my birthday has kind of taken a back seat. I have the obligatory Christmas name too...just it's my middle name...Noel. I always hated when I was a kid that it was hard to have a birthday party on my birthday. At least I will always be my grandmother's Christmas Angel. :)

I wasn't afraid to take the babies out after they were born. It was my husband who told me it was unnecessary and put up a fight every time time I wanted to take them with me. He is the overprotective dad to the n-th degree!

As for the pregnancy forums, the multiples area on Babycenter has been awesome and I have made some great friends. The regular birth clubs are truly nutso!

My husband was the one who was more concerned about not bringing Declan out in public at first.

So, we are loosely working on potty training (basically just following Declan's lead, not pushing anything). He hasn't been tremendously interested yet until tonight. I got his bath ready and stripped him down and put him in the tub. He stood up and began saying "poop" and clamored to get out. So I took him out and set him on his potty. The poor kid tried to go for probably 30 minutes! He kept saying poop and (sorry for the TMI) really straining to go and then saying "pee" and pushing his ####### down inside the potty. He kept getting up every minute or so to check the potty and see if anything happened. After awhile, I tried to get him back in the tub and he absolutely fought me (which he never does because bath is a favorite). Finally, we were beyond bedtime and I figured, I have to get this kid to bed, and I quickly put him in the tub. He was still trying to get out and crying, so I quickly soaped him up while he was standing ... at which point he proceeded to pee in the tub. The poor kid looked so mad that he didn't get to pee in his potty, and I felt horrible because if I had just waited another minute, he would have gone in the potty :(

Autumn: Whenever Allie gets up I take her diaper off and tell her that, if she has to pee, she can go on the potty which is placed in the kitchen. I take her hand and show her the pot and she's been going for about a week now. She even asks me to take her diaper off so she can go pee. She did have some mishaps the first few days and I told her that she should go on the pot rather than my carpet :). Good luck.

I wish Ben was like that. He is great about going potty as long as he is naked. As soon as there is a diaper on him, he forgets. Or we tried the training underwear and he peed in that too. I really want him potty trained this summer.

Jenn: I understand how having a baby during the H1N1 scare could make you more hesitant to take your baby out in the beginning.

I think Sebas was about 2 weeks when we took him out the first time, and just to the store and back. I was worried that he would get hungry and cry. Then we had to take an emergency trip to Argentina when he was 5 weeks...I was so ultra aware of every cough on that plane, uugghh!

We are trying the Sears sleep training method. Will try it for 2 weeks and report back with results B-)

Caro

I think Kavi was also about 2 weeks old when I took him out to Target the first time. And the elder lady cashier I mentioned, it wasn't even when Kavi was that little. He was probably almost a year old when she made the comment!

The birth club area of babycenter was always too fast moving and overwhelming for my taste. Plus many threads sounded like crazy people or could make you worry a lot. I did have a small group of support there, though. I had posted in a section while ttc with a dozen or so women in a similar boat as me and it wasn't a crowded area of the community there. We ended up bonding nicely and none of them acted nutso which was a relief! lol I am now a friends with a handful of them on facebook because I haven't been on babycenter for awhile now, and we wanted to keep in touch. I liked the small group instead of large groups.

wow this Babycenter sounds crazy. I think as a new parent you are very vulnerable to all these opinions out there, especially when it comes from people who don't know what they are talking about half the time.

..... my husband got accepted into the nursing program for next year. Nursing programs are typically very competitive and at his school, there are usually over 200 people vying for 40 slots. What this means for us as a family .... there is an end in sight to our financial challenges and now we can actually plan for having another baby in the near future!!!

Congrats to the hubby, Autumnchik!

So...aside from the simmering state of freak-out about the cord/placenta thing, I'm very excited. I've been lurking in this thread for a while, so it's nice to be a part of it!

~Julie

Julie, I hope things turn out fine for you ( I think it will). When I went for my 18-wk u/s, they told me my baby's head was smaller than average and wanted to monitor her growth. I freaked out. A second ultrasound a few weeks later, the head is measuring normal. Whew! So don't stress yourself out too much and take care during your pregnancy. :-)

I went to see the Obgyn and Im 10 weeks pregnant.Due date for right now is 18 December :crying:

I was hoping for a Christmas baby ( I was born on Christmas day). Oh well, we'll see in 2 weeks if the due date stays the same...

Congratulations to all mommies to be !!! (F)(L)

Congrats! And not to worry about the due date--my due date's been changed twice already and babies don't come on time anyways.

I am in my second semester in grad school. I am taking one class at a time but still find myself getting super stressed. I have to do my homework when Eman is sleeping or during my break at work.

Lady, that's admirable! Kudos! I wanted to do grad school too during my mat leave (counting down two more weeks!) but decided the money, time, and willing to work hard wasn't there. :-(

Anna is getting HUGE. Everyone tells me she has to be older than 5 weeks. She's only on breastmilk so I don't see how she could be TOO big. Someone at the store the other day told me she was too big plus I shouldn't have her out of the house yet  People annoy me.

Susita! How did your birth experience go? Last time I came across your post, you were ready to give birth!

I am 34 weeks - pre registering at the hospital tomorrow and going for a checkup today. Nervous as a ####### in church about actually giving birth - to the point I really just can't talk or think about it too much. Other than that, some heartburn and occasional insomnia, I'm peachy!

Gawd, I'm 27 weeks right now and deathly scared about givig birth!

Is it bad to eat spicy during pregnancy? Im kinda worried :)

I love spicy food! But during pregnancy, it doesn't love me. I get heartburn from it, and barfed once.

Did/do any of you ladies read BabyCenter? There are some real wackos on there. It seems like every day, there's something new and bizarre going on. Of course, I never take much notice of the sensible people giving sensible advice. I'd much rather focus on the crazy threads, like from the gal who couldn't stop crying because she discovered she was having a boy, and she feared that he'd grow up and marry a b!tch, and then she'd never get to see him. At the end she said, "Am I being irrational?"

LOL, I lurk there occasionally and bring home funny stories to my hubby. Other than that, I did meet a great bunch of ladies there (one small group from the US and one larger group from Canada) and we now take our discussions offline and on Facebook. It's very civil once the anonymity fades, lol.

Twila, the pic is adorable!

Weve been busy around here remodeling and making more room. Zaid will be getting a new bigger bedroom and we are turning our once garage into a master bedroom for us. A 3rd room we are painting and recarpeting for baby to come.

Going to pick out furniture tomorrow. Hubby and I have such different tastes. Should be interesting.
