Hey if you can eat it and it doesn't give you heartburn, you're a better woman than me! I wouldn't eat it every meal but I don't think it's particularly bad for you. You'll probably get out of that craving at some point anyway.

Suzy: don't worry she is not too big. Breastfed babies cannot be "too big" or "too fat". You can only mess up a formula fed baby by dosing the powder/liquid ratio wrong. The only reason for concern would be if she wasn't gaining weight. So give yourself a pat on the back, you're doing a great job! :) Ben was bigger than his peers but the weight leveled out around 9 months, he is now in the 60th percentile with weight, above the 93rd for height. So no worries. And for that lady who told you you shouldnt be out with a newborn, I don't get it. If she is in a stroller/carseat/sling and not being touched by people with dirty hands she is fine. People like that are just rude and don't know anything. I was out and about with Ben too. You have to get out for your own sanity. I was wheelchair bound for a few weeks but I managed to get rides and used the electrical wheelchair at target, I just couldn't stand being in the house with the baby all day. Wow funny about the boys, I guess I am really not looking forward to that part of Ben growing up. Right now he wants me to hold and cuddle him all day long, I guess I should try to enjoy it while it lasts.

Hi, ladies

Jon and I are expecting a small human in October. I had the 18-week ultrasound on Friday, and it's a girl. (Awww!) Everything looks great so far, except it appears that where the umbilical cord inserts into the placenta is quite far toward the edge of the placenta, as opposed to the more ideal location in the middle. The perinatologist (not my reg. OB/GYN) I saw for the ultrasound didn't seem all that concerned but said they generally recommend monthly ultrasounds to make sure the baby is growing properly. Her measurements at this point are all just fine, but of course I'm a little freaked out. I'm a worrywart at the best of times, so I'm trying hard to relax. Although he didn't use this term specifically, I looked it up on the InterWeb, and I'm pretty sure it's called marginal cord insertion.

So...aside from the simmering state of freak-out about the cord/placenta thing, I'm very excited. I've been lurking in this thread for a while, so it's nice to be a part of it!

~Julie

Congratulations!! (I only just read this.) I am sorry you are worried, I know any of us would be! But it's good to know your Dr didn't seem all that concerned. Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy to go smoothly!

Congrats Gabby! Spicy food mmm! :P

Suzy- People and their opinions when you have a baby are so annoying sometimes, true. Everyone has to put their little two cents in, which can be fine sometimes but not when they make statements like "she's too big" or "they are too small" and a bunch of other unneeded opinions. I never knew how many opinions a parent hears until I became one! And most of the time you just want to tell the opinionated person to stop talking please. :hehe:

right! lol Strangers, sheesh. :P I also had the comments about a baby being out in a store, from elder lady cashiers, "oh, when mine were little I didn't bring them with me grocery shopping...hmm". I just kinda of ignored it unless they kept it up I'd just say some comment like "well you gotta go what you gotta do, ya know". I think your comment was very good.

My aunt said something about me taking her to the grocery store, she was like a week old... and I said "well, she has 2 older brothers who still need to eat. I don't see anyone volunteering to do my grocery shopping for me."

She also went to their soccer game when she was a week and a half old. I wasn't going to miss my little guys' game!

And basically whenever we go out, she falls asleep and I pull the shade over her on the stroller. No one can see her or touch her so she's fine.

@Vi ~ thanks!

Thanks for the welcome, ladies.

Gabby, I'm sorry you're feeling so sick. I felt pretty awful for weeks and weeks (not quite bad enough for Zofran, for which I'm grateful), and even at 18 weeks, the quease isn't completely gone. So far, the pregnancy has been characterized more by aversions--to pretty much everything except cold cereal, bagels, and peanut butter--than cravings, but I did have my first real craving last week: mini-strudels from the local German bakery. Mmmm...

I'm starting to feel baby movements, which is really weird, and cool.

Did/do any of you ladies read BabyCenter? There are some real wackos on there. It seems like every day, there's something new and bizarre going on. Of course, I never take much notice of the sensible people giving sensible advice. I'd much rather focus on the crazy threads, like from the gal who couldn't stop crying because she discovered she was having a boy, and she feared that he'd grow up and marry a b!tch, and then she'd never get to see him. At the end she said, "Am I being irrational?"

baby center can be totally gonzo! w/ some i'm sure it's just hormones, but with others you know they are that nutty all the time. gotta love diversity of thought!

ahhh yes, BabyCenter. There's a bunch of wackos there!! I got tired of reading about "how to induce labor" when these nutjobs weren't even at 40 weeks yet, or "what is this goop coming out of my hoo ha?" or "Waa waa, nobody bought stuff off of my registry," or "my MIL is a psycho" or "my DH cheated on me/is in jail/got another girl pregnant/is a drunk."

I could go on and on... but to be honest I'd rather watch the Maury show than read this garbage. "You are NOT the father"
