Hi, ladies

Jon and I are expecting a small human in October. I had the 18-week ultrasound on Friday, and it's a girl. (Awww!) Everything looks great so far, except it appears that where the umbilical cord inserts into the placenta is quite far toward the edge of the placenta, as opposed to the more ideal location in the middle. The perinatologist (not my reg. OB/GYN) I saw for the ultrasound didn't seem all that concerned but said they generally recommend monthly ultrasounds to make sure the baby is growing properly. Her measurements at this point are all just fine, but of course I'm a little freaked out. I'm a worrywart at the best of times, so I'm trying hard to relax. Although he didn't use this term specifically, I looked it up on the InterWeb, and I'm pretty sure it's called marginal cord insertion.

So...aside from the simmering state of freak-out about the cord/placenta thing, I'm very excited. I've been lurking in this thread for a while, so it's nice to be a part of it!

~Julie

Nizzy: yeah no more long drives, stays with the in-laws etc! funny you remember that. Although now that my mom is here we are busier than ever, taking her sightseeing to NYC and shopping... It still feels like I am living in my car...

How are you doing, and how is your cousin?

@Julie&Gabby: congratulations! That is exciting news! Joyce- are you still able to enjoy cool whip? Or did the morning sickness spoil that for you? Fingers crossed that the cord situation will resovle by itself. on the brighter side, you will get extra ultrasounds and pictures of your little girl, although they may not appear as precious as the one in your signature... lol. She will look just like her mommy in the pantsuit.

Yay for Julie and Gabby! Gabby...you are crazy to want a Christmas baby. I was born on Christmas too and when they thought I was going to have the twins early, I just prayed, prayed, prayed it wasn't going to be on Christmas. I tell my mom that I really don't feel like I have a birthday as I have had my birthday moved all over the place over the years (we celebrated with my sister in July when I was little and finally decided on January 25th - as that was my original due date). I am happy that all my "twin"kies and I share is an astrological sign.

AFU: Well...the tantrums have hit us at 16 months. The "angel" is the one acting like the devil. She'll throw herself on the floor and just scream if she doesn't get what she wants. I can't wait for this phase to pass.

hehe...you deserve an award for dealing with an infant/toddler in the car for the amount of time that you did. I sort of know where you are coming from, I used to drive about 2 hours in the car with Eman just to drop him off at my moms. Then I would drive an additional 45 mins to an hour to work. We used to eat Breakfast and dinner in the car. I felt bad for the little guy. That's how I remembered when you mentioned your long drive ; ) My cousin is better but is taking it one day at a time, thanks for asking. The other day she had her appointment and said that while she was waiting for the dr. to call her she was overwhelmed by all the pregnant women and finally told the nurse to call her on her phone when it was her turn because she had to wait in the car.

I am in my second semester in grad school. I am taking one class at a time but still find myself getting super stressed. I have to do my homework when Eman is sleeping or during my break at work.

Nizzy, I would get up at like 5am just to do my homework when the house was completely quiet. If i waited til night time, I was too tired too focus. good luck with grad school.

Twila, My birthday falls on Thanksgiving every few years and I agree, having a holiday birthday stinks. I use to get pumpkin pie with candles in it for my birthday cake. Hana a devil? haha. I hate to tell you but Zaids tantrums hit at that age, lasted til he was about 20 months, then came back full force a week after he turned 2. They have not let up yet. I will say he is better in public now, but thats because he now understands everything I am saying to him. We have started this "surprise" thing. If he has a good week at daycare and at home he gets a surprise on Friday. It may be as simple as some stickers or a trip to the play land but he totally loves it. Come Thursday he is always asking me was his "surfrise" is and I have to tell him "1 more day" lol

Zaids new favorite thing, My collection of National Geographic magazines. (Well at least the ones about animals) He is turning into a little animal lover. My sister is a zookeeper and my brother breeds reptiles so im not surprised. Its soo funny to hear him talk about what he sees in the magazines. "The Lion bite you" and "The eagle flying" etc. I was shocked to see he knew what an eagle, dolphin, cheetah, etc were. Hes growing up so fast.

Congrats to all the mommies to be!! I hope I get to join the club soon. :)

Nizzy: haha, yeah I never used to eat anything in my car in Germany, let alone change, study, make phone calls, sleep, wrap presents, etc... I have boxes labeled "shoes", "work stuff", "books" etc in there, I had to throw the stroller out to make room. I can't wait to clean it out and make it a car again. :) awww, I can't imagine what you and your cousin must go through. The nurses could have been a little more sensitive and just put her in a room... Thats just heartbreaking. Keep your head up...

Kelly: I hear ya! I used to do homework at 5am when Ben was sleeping before I had to leave at 6am for daycare and school. On tuesdays I got up at 4am to study, then drive to 12 hour clinical at 0700, then more studying. Man, I'm so glad it's over. I will probably try to take part time classes like Nizzy starting next year or so, but at least I can work now and no more unpaid clinicals.

Funny about the animals, Ben loves them too. He imitates all the animal sounds. Someone gave him a book called "everyone poops" now he is more interested what every anmals' poop looks like. haha. I want to take him to the zoo so bad!

temper tantrums: knock on wood, Ben hasn't been in time out for the past 2 weeks, he is testing the waters every day but he has learned to listen. We count to 3, by the time we get to 2 he ususally knows to listen, haha. I do agree it comes in phases, it's a learning process, but I believe early intervention is key. Ben loves to imitate everything we do, so I am taking advantage of that and we taught him things like please, thank you, excuse me, sorry etc very early. When he acts up really bad, a 3 minute time out or putting him down for a nap has worked great. He usually starts to act out if he is tired.

Morning mommies & mommies-to-be :) Congrats to all!

The boys had their kindergarten screening appointment this morning and they are 100% ready for kindergarten. I am so happy but at the same time, my little guys are getting SO BIG and a part of me wants them to stay little. When I drop them off at preschool now they give me a kiss and a hug in the hallway so they don't have to do it in front of their 'buddies.' It's so uncool to hug and kiss your mom now :(

Anna is getting HUGE. Everyone tells me she has to be older than 5 weeks. She's only on breastmilk so I don't see how she could be TOO big. Someone at the store the other day told me she was too big plus I shouldn't have her out of the house yet  People annoy me.

Just popping in to see how all of you are and say hi. I am 34 weeks - pre registering at the hospital tomorrow and going for a checkup today. Nervous as a ####### in church about actually giving birth - to the point I really just can't talk or think about it too much. Other than that, some heartburn and occasional insomnia, I'm peachy!

Suzie - I have found that babies on breastmilk seem to be chunkier than those that are not. Also, if you look at your refrigerated breast milk see how it looks non-homogenized. There should be like a layer of cream on top. My sister's SIL produced milk that was the consistency of heavy whipping cream - no kidding. Her little girl was soooo fat she looked like the Michelin Man.:yes:
