wow Anna thats so bad, poor little baby...

Yeah my MIL is ticking me off, its not that she just feeds it to him because she doesn't know better, nope I think she does it just to piss me off. And on top of that, she is being really sarcastic when both hubby and I are there. She gives him stuff I don't approve off right in front of me and tells Ben "here, you can have this at grandmas house, we are not as paranoid as your mother".

Or- she gave him a whole twizzler the other day and I said" I really don't like this stuff" she goes" well thats better than the chocolate you feed him" and then proceeded to hand it to Ben  I do not feed him chocolate! I don't even eat american chocolate! Or another thing: I am really worried about choking hazards (I have seen a few kids die in the ER from hotdogs and hard candy), so I ask her to be careful with anything hard including ice cubes. So guess what she feeds him as soon as she gets herself an iced drink? Ben has his OWN cup with ice cubes, like 4 times/day!!!

Last week I told him," Ben we're going to grandmas' house" he says "gee-ma, candy, ice cream, chocolate" :girlwerewolf2xn: I realize that grandparents are there to spoil their grandkids, but only to a certain degree, it drives me mad that she does whatever she wants with him when I am not around. oh well. 3 more months til graduation..... :clock:

oh wow. she sounds like an...ahem...interesting person...I don't know why some relatives are like that. They are in this mentality of, well I grew up like this and I turned out fine. I had to beg my mom one day and tell her that Eman didn't fall asleep until 1 am and if she could stop the sweets. Since then, she has been listening and will give him an occasional popsicle...but that is not to say she wont give in when he whines...

Oh wow, Chnst, I think I would freak out if that was my MIL.

And yeah, about this girl (I hesitate to say friend, we never really hung out in high school, but I'm friends with her on FB so whatever). I was shocked that she was already feeding her 2.5 month old anything other than breast milk or formula. Although I haven't had kids yet so I don't know details about exactly when real food starts. But I am totally opposed to feeding a baby processed sugars. I couldn't believe it when I saw that picture.

And she's from North Georgia, but the county that I live in is really really country. So imagine your stereotypical redneck and you are imagining her and her husband (I swear I don't say that to be mean, but SOMEONE has to fit the stereotype right?).

you are right on the money with that! Exactly this is what she says all the time *roll eyes*. Ok but aside from the food issue, she is a great grandma, she is absolutely awesome with him and he loves her so much. I really can't say that she doesn't care. Its just like she thinks she knows better and she has problems accepting my point of view and I think she sometimes forgets that I am the mom and I am an adult. I guess she just sees me as the girl who married her youngest kid. It drives me nuts, but I guess it would be worse if they wouldn't care about him. They really do. They love him more than anything. But it feels good to come here and vent sometimes about all the ####### she feeds him. lol Thank you for listening ladies. :D

Gabby: I think I had these weird tummy aches, like I was going to get my period any time, but I never got my period, so I went and took a pregnancy test and voila- I was 6 weeks pregnant! It stopped sometime in the second trimester. Good luck to you! :)

@Marina-Del: that's crazy know matter who you are, you shouldn't feed your kid that stuff... If I was her, then I would absolutely make sure to NEVER publish a photo like that. I would be worrying that someone is going to call cps because who knows what else is going on there. don't you love facebook? haha.

That might be the egg attaching to the uterus wall. I could be wrong though. I remember I had pains like that and my doc said that is what it was. My cousin, who is almost 5 months preg complained of the same thing.

oh and chnst: I know my mom is so completely in love with Eman and that is why it was so hard for me to bring this topic up. But in the end, we are the parents and have to do what is best for our children.

Nizzy. Can u send the lil guy to day care? Thats the one thing I love about my in home lady. The one and ONLY time she gave zaid something without my permission, I flipped, it was only a vegetable ritz cracker, but that wasnt the point. Zaid has food allergies and doesnt eat anything pork/gelatin/etc so I made it very clear that he only eats foods I bring. I feel bad sometimes bc the other kids will be munching on nasty crappy gerber fruit snacks while Zaid eats apple slices but he doesnt even know the difference because I dont give him ####### like that. To Zaid, bananas and cherries are a treat, and Ill keep it that way as long as I can

that's great, try to keep it that way as long as you can!

On another note- Ben went to his 21 month check up today- he is 36 inches long and weighs 29.6lbs. and Doc thinks his feet are the size of a 4 year old. lol He was sooo good, even with the shot, he cried for 3 secondes and then was all happy again because the doctor was so funny today. His lungs are all cleared up and we are now cleared to d/c the pulmicort neb-treatments.

Ben so funny, he can't say words that start or include an "f" so instead of fish, he says "shish" or Fruitcake = shruitcake, which by the way is his favorite word. He says it 100 times in a row and laughs hysterically. I don't know why he thinks its so funny??

I wish I could, but we simply cannot afford it.

I'm laughing and shaking my head at the same time at the stories of what kids have been given to eat. I remember at my prenatal class reunion, a mom was telling me that she thought her 4 week old was constipated so she fed her prunes. I'm sure I didn't hide the look of astonishment on my face then.

Luckily, my mom is pretty good with Declan and generally follows what we want him to eat. However, on the trip down to FL a month ago (that I wasn't on), my mom and hubby stopped at a Krystal's and my mom gave Declan some of her chili cheese hot dog (GRRRRR) and then my husband let him have his first sip of soda (even bigger GRRRR). I wanted to kill them both, but tried to stay calm and they've assured me it was a one time thing.

@ Marina - JUst curious, where in N GA? I used to live in NW GA in Floyd County.

Now i feel bad...I give Sebas a tip of the spoon taste whenever I have a jello treat  But he doesn't care much for it...now soup, he goes crazy for: I give him a taste of the broth and he starts making happy squeals :)

My MIL drives me crazy without ever having babysat for Sebas, so I don't think she will be watching him any time soon. I rather have one of my friends watch him. MIL is totally clueless about babies, so I'm afraid of what she would do out of ignorance.

My mom & grandma always gave the boys stuff that most wouldn't consider 'appropriate,' but it was only a tiny bit and it wasn't like they were with them every day. I doubt they'd do that if they were.

I remember having a little panic attack when my mom let them have birthday cake & chocolate ice cream when they were about 7 months old. We had a party for my sister and my mom made them each their own little plates while I wasn't looking. They were fine. Most of it wound up on their clothes or on the floor anyway. I didn't give them anything new for a week just to make sure they weren't allergic to be safe.

Another time, my sister gave them a cheez doodle and I went nuts. She was only 11 though so I couldn't get that mad at her.

I learned not to sweat the small stuff, especially if it's harmless. If someone was taking care of my child on a daily basis and doing this however, I'd completely flip out.

I don't think you should feel bad. I have given Eman tastes of certain things that other people would go bananas over. I had a coworker who used to make me feel like #######, though. She used to boast about how everything that went into her childs mouth was organic and she did not dare give him things that I had in my fridge and cupboard...haha...giving kids a taste of things and a treat once in a while isn't a big deal. I have given Eman pudding cups...each parent has a right to do what they feel is best for their child.

I totally agree. We all make the choices we think are best. Personally I dont think a treat or junk food here and there are going to derail a healthy child :)
