OMG@Ben!! So we came home, he starts crying until I put him in his highchair like he's starving. So I brought a piece of chocolate cake from work and I gave him a little taste with warming up his food. Then I started to feed him and he took the first couple bites then I rememebr I better start laundry before it's too late, so I left the room for 2 minutes and when I came back he was crying and wouldn't accept the food anymore. So I tried to pick him up and he was throwing his neck back like he wants me to put him down. Then I put him down and he throws a fit! he rolls himself from one side to the other, then I just ignore him and go to the bedroom to get changed, he follows me, by rolling, still crying, I come back to the kitchen, he follows me, I try to pick him up and put him in the chair, he still cries and refuses food. So I put him down and he keeps the same attitude, so I ignore him and go make me a tuna salad, then after a while he finds a box with cans of coke in it and he's been playing with it since. What was that? Was it because he didn't want food? Was it because he wanted cake? Why don't they come with a manual????

Nessa: I run into the same issues with changing Zak. I have learned how to grab a wipe beforehand and quickly put it over his boy parts after I open the diaper so if he grabs anything, it's a wipe. Then I have to quickly grab another one because he will grab at his butt too!. I usually grab whatever is near to distract him so he'll lay still. It maybe works 50% of the time.

@ Nessa: I learned to be quick... and firm... Otherwise he'd touch his poopy butt all the time!!! That's why I switched from my prefold diapers to bumgenius-like diapers in the first place, makes it quicker. Sometimes a distraction works (aka forbidden object strategy - like the cell phone), but recently it has boiled down to authority. Changing poop diapers has become an activity with no fuss and jokes - and he's starting to unnrstand. I talk very firmly letting him know we have to change those diapers now... He cried at first when I wouldn't let him get up (putting him back over and over on the changing pad), but there just is no compromise. We play and hug after diaper change... Man it is hard.

Jona throws lots of tantrum over food with me, not with dad, and sometimes I just want to bang my head into a wall. It gets so frustrating. But all we can do as parents is to offer food, offer a variety, and wait. Toddlers eat more one day and the next day barely anything, but trust me, when hungry, they will eat. Toddlers are quite picky and change their minds in no time.... It is a struggle, I'm still learning.

hi, we have an 8 week old baby and I need some sleep :crying: :crying:

my sincere sympathy. I just celebrated my 2 year anniversay of insomnia. I hope your baby will get better sleeping habits than my son. Try to establish a routine asap.

Nessa: LOL, I was reading that and I was thinking, Is she talking about MY Ben??? haha, he does the same, nothing you do is right. we were driving in the car the other day and he demands a cookie. So I reach back to throw him a couple bbunny shaped cookies, he says "no the big ones" "sorry bud, but this is the way they come. they don't make them bigger" Ben: "no like it, take it back". Ok so I ate the cookies and he started throwing a fit and screams "more cookies" so I reach back to give him some more and he still flips out and screams and kicks for the rest of the 3 hour drive... :hehe:

@ Nessa - I feel for you with the diaper changes. Declan was like that too, right around the time he turned 1. I learned to be super quick. Twila is right, placing a wipe there always helps too. Now that Declan is older, I have found I can reason with him a bit and tell him after mommy changes the diaper, we will read a book, etc. It seems to work if he has something to look forward to.

Awww Stef, that must have been the car ride from hell.

Declan is in a counting phase lately. When we visit our friend who has kids just a bit older, and she gives her kids a time out and counts, Declan counts along with her to help. We also have a little game going where I ask him how old he will be on Saturday, and he tells me "nine", then when I say "no you won't be nine", he says "five". Finally he admits he will be 2. It is so cute.

I wish I was videotaping this morning. I asked Declan how old he will be and he said 2. Then I asked how old daddy is, and Declan said OLD!!! He then told me I am 5, so I got to gloat at my husband that I am young in Declan's eyes :)

I didn't know if anybody posted this already about the baby's OTC products, but there was a recall:

http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm210443.htm

lol@Autumn, you're 5 lol

I always give him something like a toothbrush but now no matter what I give him while I'm changing him he thinks it's a game. I'll just have to learn to be real fast. I liked the wipe idea, put on on his boys parts, but then if it touches the poop he'll grab and put in his mouth lol

Also he's biting us, like he grabs my legs and bites, and he doesn't understand no most of the time he think I'm kidding. I think I'll buy a parenting book

Nessa: diaper changes like that stopped as soon as we got a wipe warmer. He would wriggle himself away from every change and it was really frustrating. We found out he hates the cold/wet wipes. Now he has warm wipes and he doesn't mind at all. I hate having to buy another "Machine" that needs electricity but this was by far one of the most worthy purchases we have made.

Autum: haha, Ben says he is "4months old" when you ask him, I have no idea why. That is so cute. He is starting to figure out colors but most of the time when I ask him what the color is, he says "blue". so funny. I love this stage so much, his birthday party was so much fun, he loved every minute of it and was able to blow out candles and sing and open the gifts himself. Such a difference from last year.

LOL to all the stories!!!

Stef, thats funny and yet not so funny about the cookies, but I can so relate. Zaid is in the "I no like it" stage. No matter what I do, say, feed him, etc, his response is I no like it. It drives me INSANE!! Zaid use to say "Gweeen" for green everytime I asked him the color of something but now he can differentiate between green, yellow, and blue. Were still working on the other ones.

Karen, HA! I wanna be 5 too! Hubby is old? Thats too funny. Zaid says hes 2, and holds up 2 fingers, but when he tries to count, it comes out as "nine, six, one, ten, etc" lol Were working on counting and ABC's. He had me laughing so hard the other day. He didnt want to wake up. it was 8am and I was already late for work. Finally I went into his room, turned on the light and said lets go!!! He yelled at me, "MOMMY, NOT NOW, LIGHT OFF PLEASE" HAHAHAHAH When did my baby get so big??!?!?!??!

Happy belated birthdays to Ben and Zaid! And happy almost birthday to Declan!! smile.gif

Lisa-Congrats on finding out it's a boy! Did you have any feelings about whether you were having a girl or boy ahead of time?

I was kinda confused as to how I felt, but there was some little voice telling me that it was a boy.

California Baby makes a bug repellent. Around 13 bucks at Target or Natrapel is for kids too but smells VERY citronella-ish. I got it at Walmart and paid around 7 bucks I believe. Do not do burt's bees repellent...it's like oil and just nasty.

Burts Bees has one too, it is about $8 at walgreens: http://www.burtsbees...-repellent.html

Off doesn't work (it has DEET) and is toxic. I tried it last year and was bitten all over, plus that you have to shower as soon as possibey after you use it (as per instructions on the bottle)....
