Anna: nope, I haven't heard of preconception bloodwork, my midwife didn't offer it. They do draw a CBC and all the other stuff once you're pregnant, to see if there is anything that needs attention. Keep in mind that some parameters may change from your baseline once you are pregnant, so maybe that's why most insurance companies don't pay for that, especially in a healthy, young mother to be. good luck with ttc. I have decided to wait a few months we had no luck so far. I need to finish school an relax and also since we are likely to live in NY for the next 15 years, it will be easier to have birthday parties in the spring/summer/fall.

@Evi: so did she have the baby yet?? It is nice to have a happy end after all this. My MIL had so many miscarriages (a couple of them late into the pregancy) and they told her she could never have own children, so they adopted af few kids and then all of a sudden she had my husband. He was born with a heart defect, so for the first weeks he was in the hospital preparing for surgery and all of a sudden the VSD closed itself. But I just can't imagine all the stress and emotional torture she had to go through. I don't think you can ever be the same person after losing a child, whether it was prematurely born or not.

Twila@ I can imagine Hana  , I have the camera with me all the time, I bring it with me everywhere.

Susita@ Your baby is too cute, I love the name too, Anna Victoria, sounds so strong and elegant, love it! :luv:

Chnst@ My mom lost my older brother,he lived for just a few hours, it was devastating for my parents 'cause my mom had problems trying to get pregnant so he was the "miracle baby" and he died 'cause of problems at the hospital, I'm not sure about it but I think they took too long to deliver him, my mom rarely talks about him, she says is too painful, 5 months after he was born he got pregnant with me and she said that when I was born she was so nervous when I slept, she kept checking I was breathing, she was a little paranoid in the beginning but then she started relaxing, she always refers to him s our little angel.

It really is amazing the advances in medical science and practice in the past 10-15 years. In 1996, my sister lost her first pregnancy at 6 months. I was there in the hospital when she delivered him. It was heartbreaking for her to deliver him while you could hear the cries of babies newly delivered in rooms nearby. I begged the nurses to find her somewhere else to deliver. It is still painful for her to this day because they wanted a boy so badly and we have so few men born in our family. She ended up having two successful pregnancies after that. It turns out Jared had a rare chromosomal defect and if he had survived to birth, less than one percent with this genetic defect live past one year and are severely mentally and physically handicapped. It was a totally random event. Even still, with that fact in my mind, the fact my mom has spina bifoda, and my two uncles were born with lower intestinal birth defects (one born without a rectum), I was so nervous. Add to this the fact that my husband doesn't know his family medical history that well and that I was carrying twins, I could have spun out of control. I was so happy when the nuchal scan and then anatomy u/s and blood tests came back ok. My sister didn't have most of these done in her pregnancy. The advantage would have been for her to prepare for the eventualities to come and to not blame herself (which she did for a long time) for her son's death.

Nessa - love the new pics!

Susita - CONGRATS!

Eveline - I got a little teary at the story of your friend, I hope you can go with her to deliver. best of luck to her.

Twila I totally agree about the medical advances - my kids were born 12 years apart and I could tell a big difference in the tests and procedures in that time. but still, its so hard not to be a little paranoid, its amazing how your mind shifts to mama/nurturing mode so early ( for some, anyway).

Stina - I havent taken Amirah to Morocco yet but she's not a real mellow adaptable gal so I picture it being a lot like your trip so I've been putting it off a little....

Stef,

I have also relaxed about TTC. I decided Im not gonna stress about it. We are not going to so much "try" the next few months, but we wont do anything to prevent. If it happens, great, If not, I will start "trying" again late July for the exact reason of having a spring/summer baby. Zaids April 29th birthday is perfect.

It depends on his weight. Here's a dosing chart. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T088900.asp#T088901

Hi Mommies, are you getting the "Parents" magazine? There is a very interesting article about vaccines (with very recent research and updates) in the may issue. May be interesting for those of you who are on the fence about the vaccines. Ben is finally getting his MMR shot, I just made an appointment for his 2 year check up. By then he will be caught up on all the vaccines except Rota. And he will have a chicken pox shot before he starts daycare in the fall.

They also have a really interesting article on VBACs.

He is also doing extremely well on the singulair, thank God! No more wheezing, no more congestion, no more coughing all night long.

I am planning his party, I think we will have a BBQ for his birthday, my birthday, my graduation, our wedding anniversary, it all falls within the same 2 weeks in May. I can't wait!!!!

Do any of you guys have experience with buying personalized cake toppers online? I want to make the cake myself this year but I want to make something special for Ben.

Parenting also has a very interesting, ignorant article on how to save on breastfeeding expenses by asking your pediatrican for formula coupons. wacko.gif

Boohoo, but nothing new... I received a couple issues after Jona was born without signing up for it - turns out Motherhood Maternity sells your info to them - and I had to call them to please not bother sending me anymore issues. I haven't read the current issue and don't want to, it always was full of anti-breastfeeding advice, spiteful comments about VBACs or natural birth and looked down upon parents who choose selective, delayed or even non-vaccination. It's a parent's choice already! I enjoyed the article in Mothering on the issue from a mom who eventually chose selective vaccines, but in her article, she puts nobody down, whether you do a full schedule, partially or none. I highly respect that stance.

Thanks for reminding me Stef, I need to schedule Zaids 2 year. We will wait til after his birthday party though because I know he is getting two vaccines. Hep A and a Hib I think. I cant keep up with the vaccines I am just glad that we are near done with most all of them. When he was at the doctor last week for his bronchitis he was 36inches and 32lbs. I can hardly believe how much hes grown since his 1st birthday.
