My c-section recovery wasn't awesome but wasn't horrible. I couldn't believe they wanted me to get up and walk 12 hours after the surgery. I just wanted to lay down. I did have to take darvocet(I believe it was) for the first week after or else I felt a pinching pain. It took me 3 or so weeks to be able to sleep on my side without it hurting. I did have a long labor beforehand though and my body was completely exhausted. I am sure that affected the healing process the first few days. But if I had the option to have the c-section hours earlier than I did just to be done with the back labor, I would have gone for it.

SAme here...I thought recovery was terrible at least for four/five days. I was crying when they made me get up. I had a nurse to my left and my husband to the right and I could only do a few steps, let alone go to the bathroom. A few days after Adam was born we had to go to WIC and the 'nutritionist' told me to lay off the meds if I wanted to breastfeed and I just remember thinking "No way lady, I'll take it all". I'm not a person who takes a lot of medication but I just couldn't bear the pain so I took my Motrin for - I don't know - seven, eight, nine days or so after birth.

@ Marylin: NFP/condoms work well for us.

@ Eveline: Hm Motrin was okay I thought for breastfeeding??? Isn't that just Ibuprofen? I thought most people get stuff like Percocet after c-sections... Heck they gave me Motrin after Jona was born without even asking, saying I need it (didn't question it, hadn't slept in 11 days at that point). They wanted me to take 400mg every 6 hours. I stopped as soon as I was home, cause my tears really didn't hurt that much, I was just sore but not in need of meds... It appears to be standard protocol... Even my birthing center recommends Ibuprofen post partum... Weird WIC lady.

Yeah, Motrin is fine. I don't know what her problem was. It was a mandatory appointment for WIC and that lady didn't know what I went through. I took 800mg three times daily, plus other stuff (stool softeners etc whatnot). I honestly - at that point - didn't care for Adam. I didn't care if it might go in the milk or so...I just didn't want to be in pain anymore.

we are using condoms now but my husband doesn't like to use them.. and I am not sure how NFP would work for me because my monthly has never been regular when I am not on the pill...

@Steffi: I agree with he healthy baby, healthy mama thing...but after c/s you still can't say that mama's healthy. So I disagree on that one. If the little girl won't turn back though and a breech birth won't be possible then of course she just has to be born by c/s but until then I wouldn't lose hope.

yeah of course you recover differently from a c/s than a vag delivery (in most cases) but with a breech, I wouldn't take any risks of becoming an emergency c/s because that is a huge difference from a scheduled c/s. The risk associated with that like a cord prolapse can make a mommy pretty sick too, so I think I'd rater be on the safe side and have a higher chance of healthy mommy & baby.

You had a very different experience because you were pushing your little heart out with Adam and I guess he was just not going to go past that one point (some babies just need to arch their back a little and there is no way out), and then after so many hours of labor you had the c/s which is a lot more trauma emotionally and physically than a scheduled situation would have been. No wonder you needed your drugs, I'm surprised you didn't take percocet.

Yeah she may turn, but chances are, she may not esp if she is on the larger side. Some doc's may try external versions but that may not even be successful. It's true that 2nd babies drop later but that's not the point, a malpresentation has nothing to do whether its the first or second, it depends on very individual circumstances if the baby turns spontaneously.

With twins it's a different story too, because they are usually smaller and have different attitudes towards each other, so they can be all over the place up until birth.

I'm sorry Kelly that you have to go through this, hope all goes well for you!! Keep us posted, so excited to see pictures soon! How's Zaid doing? Is he getting excited??

I would talk to your dr about the ParaGard IUD (non hormonal). If you did end up having heavy bleeding or cramping from it, they could remove it - then you'd be right back where you are, and really no worse off.

@ Marylin: I'm not very regular either, but using NFP correctly you get a good idea of what days are dangerous. All local libraries have a copy of Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler, it explains it very neatly. It won't hurt to read it to learn more... You don't only watch your temp... I learned that I ovulate somewhere between day 16 and 20, and my cycles vary as well from 28 to 34 days, but with the easy rules the book provides, it's pretty clear cut when condoms are a must. ;) I used the fertilityfriend.com website as my calendar, you enter your info every day and it calculates for you...

Blaeh, contractions for 4 hours at night and then nada. I don't like those false alarms.

this book was written by a man??? :lol Does this work if you have a crazy schedule/ working nights etc? I have heard that could mess things up hormonal wise. I'm not sure if I could trust this concept but I've heard lots of people swear by it.

I have those contractions all the time too but nothing regular, they come and go. I don't remember having that with Ben that much.

No, in Munich Toni was Antonia, the Bavarians like nicknames that way too ;) It's written by a woman, and yes, crazy schedules can mix things up, but I skipped reading about it since it doesn't apply to me. I think one needs 5h of uninterrupted sleep or so... I forget... I haven't charted since I got pregnant, and preggo brain ate all my memory!

@ Joyce: The diaphragm seems like so much work and like it's gonna go lost... My nightmare about it... But since NFP works for us, we'll stick with it for now... I mean like in 11 months when my cycle will actually resume, lol.

@ steffi: When my contractions hit, they do so on top of each other or every 2 minutes, so I get all giddy thinking this is it, but then it doesn't get more intense and tapers off. Very annoying....

@Chnst: You gotta have at least 3h of uninterrupted sleep, then take your temp before doing anything else, especially no getting up before taking your temp.
