Well I have some disappointing news....I went in for my sizing ultrasound and Salma had flipped into the breech position. I am beyond devastated and feel SO cheated. I feel like after pushing out Zaid (9lbs posterior) I earned a chance for a 2nd easy delivery. The baby measured close to 8lbs so the OB doesnt really think there is a chance of her flipping back down. I go Friday for an NST and will schedule my csection for Monday the 30th.  (They will check one more time before the operation to ensure she is still breech) In the meantime I am going to look into spinninbabies.com and see if theres anything I can do to assist her in moving head down. I wont be getting my hopes up though. I cried, and I think Im over it now. I am still hardly a finger tip dilated and high. Even if I do get a chance at a vaginal delivery, it would probably be an induction anyways.

Kelly, I'm sorry that you're going through this.  Personally, I loved my c-section and after the hell I went through in L&D for 3 days being induced I would sign up for one in a heartbeat.  My body was totally conditioned from walking 2-3 miles each day and I recovered quick.  I was off pain meds in 4 days and within two weeks I was driving.

To each their own but a c-section is not the end of the world.  However she comes into this world we want you and her to be super healthy.  (((((((((((((((Kelly)))))))))))))))))

I was off prescription pain meds as soon as I discharged from the hospital. I had them, but didn't want or need to take them. Ibuprofen was enough for me. As a result, I was driving in less than a week as my OB's office told me it is the meds that prevent you from driving. I thought it was harder to recover from laproscopic gall bladder surgery than a c-section.

I think you will relate to this...of course, the man and I actually would LOVE another child, but the final factor in deciding was the fact that we are in our 30s, and 40 years from now...who's Nick gonna have? And I'm an only child, and he has a sister that we doubt wants kids, so basically, he's the new young frontier of our family, and I don't want him to go through it with no one near his age. And event hought I am an only child, I went thru my childhood with cousins 2 houses away, so I wasn't lonely like most only children.

Btw, have you ever thought the libido issue has to do with just being plain dog-TIRED? lol Maybe it has nothing to do with hormones, maybe it's just balancing work, baby, hubby, home, etc. That's a lot on a plate.

Emily has 2 cousins but they are teenagers (15 and 13 respectively). They LOVE her like she is their own sister, but they're not exactly close to her in age. If we don't have another child, I can really only hope she is good at making (and keeping) good friends. As you can see, I'm still kind of torn about it.

LOL Yea, it could be fatigue I suppose. I am fortunate that I sleep well, but I do constantly feel like I am on the go. I'm hoping that exercise will help with my energy overall, and not just feel like one more thing I have to cram into the day. But still, it has other benefits which I can't ignore and which are good for me. I still think removing the hormones from the equation can't hurt either. I may do all of this and still be in the same place w/ my libido - but at least then I will know I tried everything I can think of to make it better, you know?

@Kelly: I just saw your post on facebook. Good luck with everything. Hopefully your babygirl will turn back around.

@Steffi: I agree with he healthy baby, healthy mama thing...but after c/s you still can't say that mama's healthy. So I disagree on that one. If the little girl won't turn back though and a breech birth won't be possible then of course she just has to be born by c/s but until then I wouldn't lose hope.

As for Marilyn. I think she's had cerclages with both babies. Good luck Marilyn. I would also consider adoption before surrogacy, just for the financial reasons and like you said, you'd be giving a home to a child who otherwise wouldn't have one. Good luck

@ Kelly: She might turn, one never knows. Like I said on FB, subsequent kids turn a lot later on still and engage really late. When I asked my midwife whether Eloise is dropped yet she said most second kids don't do that until right before labor. Is there any chance that one of your doctors is skilled in vaginal breech birth? My backup obgyn attends breech births all the time and teaches it to his residents, the only breech he doesn't do is footling.

I'm starting to believe that this baby wants to stay in forever. I have cramps here and there but that is it... So tired all the time! I'm just a tad worried cause of the placenta, but if it doesn't get worse it will be ok. Basically it must get really super calcified before they would consider induction, and I really want to avoid that. Too many of those end up with c-section, though the backup obgyn is extremely patient and has a very low rate, so he wouldn't rush things. But I keep taking EPO and using hubster for induction ;)

Oh I wanted to add @ Kelly. There was apparently just enough room for Salma to turn breech, so I bet there'll be room for her to turn back too. Good luck.

@Anna: LoL, forever....you're not even 40 weeks yet. I honestly have no idea what my placentas looked like, nobody ever did a US on it I guess (at least not with Allie). I guess you are just used to going into labor before your due date. Good luck to you too. Hope that placenta will stay the way it is until baby E makes her big entrance. No help on the labor induction thing...we've tried it all, didn't work. My friend however went into labor after having relations with her husband. For some people it might just work.

My friend's wife just had a baby girl last night (38 weeks c-section). The baby is healthy so all is great :)

Looking at the newborn pictures, though, make me want to have another baby now!!!!!!!!!! OMG, I'm a person that never wanted to have a baby and now I want more!! I'm so not myself lol.

Wish every expecting mommy a safe, speedy, and complication free delivery! I cant wait to see more newborn pics :)

Sam is doing great but I think he still has the ear infection. He woke up 5 times last night and he still has runny nose. May be he is still teething on his 4th tooth (the 3rd one cut a few days ago). I dreamed last night though that he has a mouth full of teeth lol.

They made me wait until 5 or so. I walked the halls that night. I really didn't understand what the fuss was about. Sure, it hurt. But not like the stories of 'laying in bed for weeks' that I heard about.

@ Evi: Apparently it is common and probably not a problem at all... My midwife thought it might be a sign for impending labor when it gets old, cause the body knows to start labor then when it cannot sustain baby properly anymore... The EPO stuff smells yucky btw... TMI but I'm trying the relations thing, lol, and it gives me crampy contractions for about 4 hours. Then nada... Next week depending on the results I might ask the midwife to sweep the membranes and check my dilation, and we can talk cohosh and castor oil. BUt castor oil sounds so nasty. I throw up on gross flavors... I really gag easily and stuff that tastes horrible!

aww Kel hugs!! Just remember, healthy mommy, healthy baby is all what counts and matters. wow crazy to think that in just a week from now you'll have your baby girl! :) I hope all goes well, either way, maybe she will turn but honestly in most cases at full term she may not. Are you past 39 weeks by monday? In NY they don't deliver/induce before 39 weeks in case she could turn. Good luck, I'll be thinking about you!!

Marilyn: my MIL had a similar history like you. She lost a few babies, some later in her pregnancies and I don't think this is something you will ever really get over. :( She decided to adopt 2 children. Then she got pregnant, unplanned and was able to carry the baby (my hubby :luv: ) to full term. So you never know what could happen, although these days there are so many more options medically.

Did you have a cerclage with your last baby? It must be very hard to make any decisions. Adoption is certainly an option, there are so many children out there who need parents. Personally I think I'd probably go that route before I would consider surrogacy. Don't know but that's a personal choice.

I only had a cerclage with the second pregnancy... they told me I had a "Incompetent cervix" .... originally my doctor said I lost the first baby because of an infection but now I think that the incompetent cervix had something to do with it...

yeah I am leaning more towards adoption... but of course in the back of my mind I would love to have a baby that was a part of both of us..

so what are my options for BC now that I can't take the pill?

Kelly, I didn't have the easiest recovery from my c-section (in fact, my belly is still a bit sore three months later--they had to do a lot of pulling to get her out), and I'm a complete wimp, but I managed to shuffle my way to the bathroom within 12 hours of the surgery. A c-section definitely isn't the worst thing in the world. And if labor can be avoided, all the better!

My c-section recovery wasn't awesome but wasn't horrible. I couldn't believe they wanted me to get up and walk 12 hours after the surgery. I just wanted to lay down. I did have to take darvocet(I believe it was) for the first week after or else I felt a pinching pain. It took me 3 or so weeks to be able to sleep on my side without it hurting. I did have a long labor beforehand though and my body was completely exhausted. I am sure that affected the healing process the first few days. But if I had the option to have the c-section hours earlier than I did just to be done with the back labor, I would have gone for it.

<totally subjective, and inaccurate information below>

I'm afraid the options are not many, specially if you want something effective (Just my opinion, I don't trust barrier methods - too many stories of condoms failing!)

You could do a combination of natural family planning/ condoms (abstinence during the fertile days, and condoms during the infertile days)

Copper IUDs...very frequently cause heavier flow and increased cramping. Not sure if I would go down that road.

Diaphragm + spermicide could be another option, if you don't mind stopping when the mood strikes and do all that

What about the mirena or the nuvaring? the hormonal dose is supposed to be much lighter that the pill, could that be an option for you?

Hugs to you. Whether you try again for another baby or adopt, I know you two will make wonderful parents and give one lucky child a very very happy life :)

Caro

LisaC currently has the ParaGard (copper) IUD -- Lisa, has it made you cramp or bleed worse?
