We're thinking now might be a good time to conceive, since by the time the baby is due (October/November) ...

When my wife said something along very similar lines to our primary physician, he laughed at her. Just plain laughed and told her this isn't building IKEA furniture (he's Korean - his sense of humor in English is awkward) it doesn't always go as planned. He recommended that she talk to her OB for pre-conception bloodwork but in the meanwhile suggested she go on otc prenatals 3 months before beginning trying and get me on a multivitamin if i wasn't already (i wasn't).

Geez! All this preconception nonsense! Just get drunk at a hockey game!

Something strange happened to the reply I tried to post. Here's attempt #2.

Thanks for all of the replies. Thanks for the heads up about FMLA. Hubby would qualify, but I wouldn't. As recommended my Dr., I have been taking prenatals since August.

Joyce, you might have something there. It may just come down to beer and soccer. lol.

Thanks again!

Oh no, I hope that things fall into place and your sister gets in on time. How far away does your MIL live?

I went for my 24 week appt today and my bp was significantly high: 140/90 even after being checked with a time gap in between to make sure we get the correct reading. I have a history of hypertension, but had it under control with exercise and diet for 7 years. My OB wrote an Rx for Labetalol and now wants me to come in every week until week 32 and then twice a week after that until delivery. Now, the OB told me that in my situation, Labetalol is safe for me to take although it is a Category C drug. I know he is going to monitor me closely, but I can't help worrying about taking a category C drug. I want to do what is best for the baby's health, and it must mean that the benefits outweigh the risks which is why he prescribed it to me, but I wanted to know, does anyone have an idea about Labetalol? Know anyone that has taken it in the last trimester?

@ Marm: I think in cases like that it's fine to take a cat C drug, as the benefits outweigh the risks, and you'll be monitored closely. I hope you can make it as far as possible along...

@ MissBollinger: I agree, can MIL make it somehow? That stinks, winter weather has really been bad this year...

I had an appointment today and all is good, I'm measuring like a week behind now, but baby is consistently growing and they just don't expect me to have a big baby, and that's fine. Sunday will be 37 weeks and then she could come any day... It's a full moon on the 19th and my water broke with Jona the morning after a full moon.... So I think the days after full moon might be it... But we shall see!

Missbollinger: oh no, I hope your MIL will come around once she see's you don't have any other choices. Or that your sister will make it! Are you contracting yet?

I've actually been contracting since Monday after having my membranes stripped. They are regular right now and my sister doesn't land for another hour! LOL. I can't get MIL to come over because she is still sick and I will have to come home to a house full of sick kids!!

Thanks Anna. And its interesting you mention that you are measuring a week behind, my doctor told me today that my uterus is measuring larger than normal for dates. He also scheduled me for an U/S next week as well to get measurements. I also know for a fact that having a large uterus runs in my mother's side of the family in general, so I hope it doesn't mean that they baby is too big.

@Missbollinger: I hope that it isn't much longer and that your sister comes to help! Good luck!

I don't have any experience with this, but I'm sure that the risks the drug could present are less than the high BP itself. I'm sure if your doctor is closely monitoring you, you'll be fine. But I know it's scary still - I'm sorry!!

Missbollinger: good luck, so glad your sister made it! Now you can relax in your L&D bed, LOL. NOT. Hope all goes well with your delivery!

Marm: well they are monitoring you&baby closely, maybe your BP will improve and they will be able to taper it off? Don't stress the measurements too much, it all depends on the way baby is laying in your belly or whether you're a tall or short person. Hang in there, I have my fingers crossed that you will get better soon!

Anna: haha maybe little Eloise will be an 8 pounder after all, I had a lady yesterday who didn't even look pregnant and she delivered a 9lb baby. At least you almost made it to full term!

Ben's lab report came back finally and it's benign!! The surgeon wasn't able to read the whole thing, he sent it to the dermatologist who wants to follow up with us but the nurse told us it's benign. so yay! It's such a relief! My heart almost stopped when she told us because she said "benign" like its a bad thing. She was a little rude. It took me a few seconds to realize it and I just wanted to cry because I was so happy!

uhm I'm so confused right now, I got a phone call from the dermatologist this morning who said she talked to the surgeon and apparently something is not right with the lab report. She is requesting the slides from the surgery and to re-do the whole thing with her own pathologist. She said it wasn't done correctly. I asked her if we have to be worried but she said she would rather discuss it in person with us once it has been evaluated again.

Oh man this is driving me nuts. WTH?? Why is this so f-ing complicated?
