Anna: I don't know what to do. I tried calling the dermatologist for her opinion, but I think it's friggin impossible in America to ever get to talk to a real MD on the phone. They offered me another appointment in like 3 months.

Its driving me nuts but I just don't trust this guy. I just don't think he unerstands pediatrics or dermatology. Most of the clients in his fancy office were waiting for their christmas botox injections. He has a very impressive resume as a plastic facial surgeon for adults and he is associated with NY presbyt. (he gave us a copy of his CV) but I just don't think he does biopsies very often and especially on children. It may sound paranoid, but what if he f***'s it up, or sends the biopsy to the wrong lab, in the wrong solution etc, this is killing me. I'd rather have it done at a dermatologist office where they know what they're doing because he is not doing what the derm doc wanted anyway.

I am so frustrated that none of the surgeons the dermatologost recommended take our insurance (or any insurance)! It's so stupid having to settle with someone who may not know what the hell he is doing just because he is in our network.

rant end. I'm just so worried about Ben not being in good hands. I mean they're putting him under anesthesia in a surgery center that deals with adults only. I am totally freaking out at the thought of all the possibilities what could go wrong!:(

I really really wish we could get this done in Germany. I just feel this system here is just so much worse when it comes to special stuff like that.

Anna, is it worth flying to Germany???

Oh Steffi that stinks big time! I guess I should stop complaining about Tricare (well Tricare itself is okay, it's just the base doctors we had issues with!)... Once I get a referral everything is mostly good.... That stinks that not many doctors participate in the plan. Can you maybe talk to the derm's office again to see if they might want to hand out a referral to a pediatric surgeon in a hospital, maybe a children's hospital? They usually take most insurance plans... What a pain...

@ Lisa: Well before any of us or our children can use German health benefits, you have to fly over and sign up for a residence and the health plan... Might take a week or two, so it's rather hard... But as last resort I think I would not exclude it... It's not like Canada where you have to wait for stuff, I never waited longer than a week to have things scheduled.

I dunno if I'd let that man near my child. Not because he mainly operates on adults - as the anesthesiologists will be the one dealing with all that anyway; but mainly because he isn't doing what your dermatologist recommended he do. The dermo sounded like a good doctor so I'd be more inclined to trust his instincts about a biopsy on the lymph node.

At the same time, I'm sure you just want all of this DONE. Are there any other surgeons on your insurance in that field that you could get in with? Just tell appointments about the importance of having this looked at sooner rather than later and maybe they'd work you in more quickly?

Merry Christmas to all you mamas. We're anxiously awaiting santa's arrival. Unfortunately, Allie must have picked up a stomach bug along the way this week. She threw up two nights ago, pooped on my carpet, threw up again last night and Adam joined her in their pukefest...argh. We already called my MIL and told her that we won't be able to come by tonight or tomorrow because my GMIL is very susceptible to such stuff and usually ends up at the hospital due to dehydration etc. Well, she said to come by anyway if Adam doesn't throw up anymore. Allie's eating good and I think she's over the hump... Adam's refusing to eat so far. He likes his tea and is happy with that for now. I know that in our family stomach bugs always skip a day so I have a feeling that tomorrow my husband is going to have it argh...and it's probably impossible to keep my GMIL out of it if we do go to her Christmas party tonight. We'll see.

Merry Christmas to everyone. Enjoy your time togehter...make traditions and memories.

Stef@ I can't imagine how are you feeling, i got upset reading at your post and have to ask the same question, what about flying to Germany? is it possible?. I don't trust american doctors too much.. sorry had to say it

Sofi is being sick since yesterday, she threw up 8 tmes in 4 hrs, me and hubby were in shock, we never saw her throwing up before, poor baby, it seems thta she has an stomach virus (is it me or americans are used to call everything "virus"). Today she continued throwing up, she has no appetite and looks very weak :( , right now she is sleeping, my poor thing. We called the doctor and of course he doesn't want us to give her any medicine, my mom got so upset when I told her that, she thinks american doctors are crazy, she doesn't trust them and can't blame them.

Let's see what happens tomorrow...

Gotta go... Merry Christmas to all the wonderful Mommies from this forum!

Merry Christmas everyone! We had poopy on the carpet too. haha. We made Ben a "clubhouse" from the big box that hubby's toolbox came in and he started to have diarrhea and couldn't even make it to the potty in time. It was all over the box, carpet, his hands etc arrh it was lovely! I thought once we're done with diapers we're done with the yucky stuff. I totally forgot that he now has to learn how to wipe his butt.

So the dermatologist finally called me back 2 days ago and I talked to her about our concerns with the surgeon. She was really really sweet and understanding. She was pissed that he isn't going to do what he is supposed to do, but she said at this point all we want is to get a good biopsy of the mole and then we can worry about the node. She also told me to make sure that the biopsy is sent to a dermato pathologist, someone who only does skin. She said she will request a report from the surgeon and if she isn't happy with the report she will take the biopsy and have it done in her own lab until she is happy with the results. Made me feel so much better! :)

But it's so weird that we have to be on top of every little step, I just don't understand why there is practically no communication, like a written report between the doctors! They only report back to the pediatrician, but it would be so much more helpful if the dermatologist and the surgeon would communicate.

Going to Germany would be a pain in the butt to with all the paperwork, I don't even know how that would work with the health insurance etc and I'd most likely lose my job and it would all take more time. But I just can't imagine going thru all this over there. He would see a doctor, get a referral and have it taken care of without us having to worry that they could mess up every little step, like what lab to send the sepcimens etc.

Oh well. 2 more weeks and hopefully everything will be ok.

Christmas was so much fun! We did some presents last night, the german way and the rest and the stockings this morning. Ben loved every minute of it! He was so good! He is already napping because he was so tired from playing all morning!

My inlaws gave him a little blue baby dolly- so he can practice how to be a good big brother! He loves his "baby" I thought that was such a good idea!

Vi: most stomach bugs are viral, so there really isn't much medicine out there other than maybe pedialite, good old sleep and lots of water/bananas bland food if she tolerates it. It just has to be flushed out of her system. Hope she feels better soon! BTW I saw pictures of you chocotejas on FB, what is in there? They look so good!!

Miss Bollinger: good luck with your delivery, sounds like you will have your baby very soon!

Merry Christmas everyone, hope all the sick babies are better soon!

Vi, Stef is right. When it comes to stomach bugs nothing will help unfortunately. They have to run their course and as parents we just need to do our best to keep our little ones hydrated. Im not surprised why doctors are SO unwilling to medicate. I have SO many friends and know so many people who dump meds into their kids mouth at the first sign of a cough. Medicines for viruses are never going to make the child "better" maybe feel slightly better but seems pointless to me.

My friends daughter was diagnosed with a "sore throat" at 4 months old and was prescribed tylenol with codeine. After my friend told me it was causing her baby to sleep 20 hours a day I researched and found it was rarely prescribed in children under 5 and used for post-surgical purposes. I told my friend that she should stop giving it to her infant and she said "i dont care it helps her sleep and i need some peace and quiet" Ridiculous if you ask me. Cough Syrups arent even recommended in children under 5 now i think, yet I hear people giving it to their 1 year old.

idk, I guess to each their own but I will say Zaid has NEVER had cough syrup, never had an antibiotic, and only taken tylenol and benadryl (for severe allergies) when needed. No it is not fun when our kids are sick but I fully understand why ped's dont rush to write a script everytime a kid has a cough or upset stomach, people abuse them. Not saying this is the case for you, but maybe it might shed some light on why Sofia's doctor doesnt want to give you medicine.

anyways....lol

Christmas here was great. Zaid is napping on the couch after playing his little heart out this morning. I think he got every semi truck and helicopter on the planet. He has been such a good boy the past 2 days and despite not napping yesterday, he was SO well behaved all night with all his cousins. (sometimes 5-2 year olds in one room can be disastrous)lol

Hope everyone has a merry christmas

I totally agree with you Kelly. My husband grew up in Pakistan where he was given medicine growing up for EVERYTHING. I grew up here where my mom and the docs were hesitant when prescribing meds. Now my husband is immune to mostly all medications where I (even though I still rarely take medicine unless I absolutely have to) can take one tylenol and can go about my day. I think that we definitely have to understand that there are good and bad doctors everywhere. You just have to look around and find a good one (and that doesn't mean one that will write a script over every sniffle and cough). I hope she gets better

Vi, I know it's hard to watch our babies suffer but just know that she is building up her immunity and her body will learn to fight it off on its own. not to say that doctors can't be wrong so just keep monitoring her. I hope she gets well soon.

Vi, I hope Sof feels better soon.

We're on day three of stomach bug and 'knock on wood' nobody has puked or pooped on my carpet anymore since about noon today. Both kids went from throwing up to diarrhea and Allie did the running poop, leaving a stream of poop all over my kitchen floor while I was cooking...wonderful. I got my husband out of his throne recliner and made him help me clean up the mess and while we were at it we cleaned all three bathrooms and lysoled the floors and counters (lysol is the closest to anything disinfecting that I have in the house) so I hope we're over that now. They don't want to eat or drink anything. We bought the bluest Gatorade we could find (in hopes the color will be appealing) and we did give Adam two 'fart rockets' (suppositories) to help with the vomiting cause it was bad.

Now I'm patiently waiting for it to hit me, even though my newly grown mommy pig stomach seems to fight off every stomach bug out there lately. I haven't had any issues since I was pregnant with Allie and while everybody around us gets so sick I don't have any problems. Since I blurted that out now here I guess I will get sick after all though...I jinxed myself.

yep. Absolutely! feeling any wet&warm diarrhea streams running down on the carpet yet? I think I am immune to most bugs too, but oh boy last year I caught the stomach bug after Ben vomited and puked all over us. It only lasted 24 hours but I don't think I have ever been so miserable!

Hope you all feel better soon! It really sucks to be sick on the holidays!

We really had the best christmas and now we finally got snow today! :D I can't wait to get Ben up and dressed and go out to play!
