Anya: I don't know about the baby contest... For some reason all my friends with babies are sending me emails to vote for their baby, so that must be a huge thing these days. Why is that contest so important to you? I think I would have given up by now. :P

LOL I was giving up but then my family now started to be so excited and voted for him - he now has like 70 votes I think lol.. now it's more fun :) I dont think I'm (he) going to win - and this is probably the only contest I'd ever put him through hehehe - it's just nice if we won to get the $25,000 collage fund ya know :)

I still cant see picture of Madeleine :( start to think I did something wrong?

whow! so quiet here

Anyway, I started giving Sam oatmeal yesterday - gerber oatmeal and I just realized it has wheat in it!! #######! do you guys know any other brand of oatmeal that doesnt? I'm not so sure about keep using it becasue of the allergy thing but noone in our family has any food allergy so i'm not sure if it matters.

It's weird though.. last night he started crying (like with tears!) while sleeping and even I held him for a while he was still crying in his sleep.. it happened to be the day I started the cereal but I think it's more of a nightmare... but he's never have a nightmare before.. such a co-incident...what do you think ladies?

Unless you know he has a wheat allergy, is there a problem in giving it to him? Obviously I'm still learning all these things but the only way to find out if he's allergic is to give it to him, right? I didn't even think to check if Emily's cereal has wheat in it - probably does. She seems to be doing just fine with it.

I'd say that's a coincidence about the dream (nightmare?) too.

How old is Sam now? I wouldn't give him cereal until he is at least 5 months old. Although there are studies now that say kids may be more prone to food allergies the longer you delay solids. Do you have a history of alleriges in the family? If not then I wouldn't worry too much. A lot of doctors recommend starting with rice cereal bewtween 4-6 months bc its gluten free and probably easiest to digest although it may constipate a little.

Here's what we did with Ben- he started showing an interest in eating solids very early, around 4 months. So I started to let him chew on a spoon for a while and then introduced carrots and bananas (very very small amounts) when he was around 5 months. He was always constipated so I didn't dare to give him rice cereal. I started happy bellies organic oatmeal and multigrain cereal when he was 6 months but I had to mix it with prunes/pears or he wouldn't eat it. So far no allergies, I guess we're lucky! He is not a picky eater at all and he now even eats salads.

Hope this helps. I would discuss solids with your pediatrician at the next well baby visit. They can give you a list of foods that are ok to feed.

Pregnant mommies: do you have Braxton Hicks yet? I am 24-25 weeks I think and I am having crazy contractions today. I worked 14 hours yesterday and delivered 4 babies without sitting down, I am kinda worried I overdid it a little. So I am hanging out on the couch today but the contractions are pretty bad. I didn't have any with Ben until very late in the pregnancy. Do you get those and if yes are they worse after a very long/busy day?

On another note my midwife and OB work on the same unit as I do so I see them all the time at work and I am so so happy because they are so nice! I can't believe how lucky I got with my OB and hospital. So far I haven't seen one delivery that was as stressful/busy/loud as my own, not even the c-sections.

I am having my glucose screening next month eww. Not looking forward to that.

My pediatrician told us we were ok to start trying Emily on cereal - this was at her 4 month appointment just last week. We've been giving her a little bit at night and she's tolerated it fine so far. We're not going to introduce anything else until after we see the doc again for her 6 month appt.

I think it makes the most sense to just respond to your baby's cues when it comes to introducing solids. Personally, I didn't want to start solids until at least 6 months. Then the process was kind of frustrating because he wasn't all that interested - he didn't like rice cereal or oatmeal or even pureed fruit, really. But I felt like since I had "delayed" solids that surely he should be scarfing them down. I gave up on the purees and went straight to table food which he was more enthusiastic about, but more for the experience than the actual taste/nourishment. It wasn't until he was 9 or 10 months old that he really started showing interest in actually consuming solids. In hindsight, he was just fine nutritionally getting breastmilk and I wish I hadn't stressed out so much about his lack of interest in solids.

My two hated cereal, even with fruit or formula mixed in. We started them on pureed veggies at this time. We were really slow with it until about 6 months

Failed my 1 hour glucose tolerance test :(

Going tomorrow at 9am to do the 3 hour. Hoping I pass it otherwise these holidays are going to be SUPER miserable for me :(

Stef, I had some BH today too. They lasted about 45 mins. I had none with Zaid so this is odd to me. I just drank a bunch of water and laid on my side like the OB said to do if i had any. Make sure your taking it easy when your not working!

Oh my goodness you have to be so careful with blood sugar.. I had late on-set gestational diabetes and I didn't even know it, and my daughter was born with a very weak pancreas and super low blood sugar.. she had to be in NICU for a week to stabilize. I really hope your test goes well :)

Also, my daughter turns one next week! Time is just flyin!! Hope ya'll have a great holiday!

I started Adam on cereal when he was six months old (I held him off, he wanted to eat as early as four months) and soon dumped it and started giving him fruit and veggies. Allie didn't show interest until 8 months. We skipped the cereal all together and went right to fruit and veggies and even fingerfood (blueberries, breadcrust etc).

@Chnst: I had braxton hicks all the time. I felt them as early as 10 weeks in my second pregnancy. They got progressively worse as pregnancy went on and got rather uncomfortable toward the end. It got so bad that sometimes I had to just sit down and breath them away. They even came in 5min intervals and I called L&D but they weren't super painful so we stayed home. I think it's important to stay hydrated and rest every now and then if you can. Good luck.

Wow I must be a total weirdo.. I started my daughter on cereal and apple/pear sauce at 2 months.. She wouldn't get full from just formula.. She was eating constantly.. Her doctor said that as long as she could digest it properly, that it was fine. Now she's a year old and eating table food and whole milk exclusively. The doctor was concerned about zinc deficiency, so we mixed the milk with formula starting at 9 months and gradually weaned her from there. She ate 1/2 my hot turkey sandwich just the other day.. And the kid is growing like a weed, has never been sick. (knock on wood)

That's very rare I think that a pediatrician ok'd solids before 4 months and cow's milk before 12. I'm glad it seemed to be ok for your daughter though.

I wouldnt have felt comfortable giving Zaid solids at 2 mos but thats just me. My Ped also recommended to hold off until 4-6 months. Some Peds are old fashion and dont follow current standards. My friends kids had "poop problems" (only pooping once a day which doesnt sound like a problem to me) and he put them on goats milk at a month old. I just cant see that being enough vitamins and nutrients for a kid. IDK. He also prescribed my friend tylenol with codiene for her 4 month old when she had an irritated throat from GERD. That would scare me.

Well im on my way for this 3 hour #######. Im super hungry already idk how im gonna make it through the next 4 hours on a glucose high. i REALLY hope I dont vomit
