We never did tummy time. I couldn't bear to see my kids having their mouth in the carpet/blanket and crying. Carrying them in a carrier or laying them on top of you counts as tummy time and their neck muscles will develop soon enough.

Hey guys, just a bit of news...Nick had his 1 mo checkup yesterday (he's 5.5 weeks though), and all went great, thank God! He's even gained a substantial amt of weight!

(he went from 7.5 born, to 6.9 3 days later - docs were concerned cos that's 10%....then next weigh in - sometime the next week, he was 7.0, then 7.2 the week later...7.12 about 10 days ago)

NOW HE'S 9.4!!!!!

Regarding tummy time, I'm not really sure of any other advice that already hasn't been said. But Nick has been holding up his head for about a week now...of course it flops around sporadically. However, I will share something the doc did to 'test' him...first, he was on his back and she lifted him up to a sitting position and then just held onto his arms. Then, another 'test' was she put him on his stomach...she then did say something about him having a small butt, so for some reason had to push down on his butt to see how well he held his head up. I don't really know why...my doc is Indian, and sometimes I have a hard time understanding her accent, lol.

Anyways, that's all I got!

MissBollinger...you brought your baby home in the teddy outfit??? HOW FRICKIN CUTE! Care to show pics?

I propped Ben up on a blanket and the boppy for tummy time. They usually don't tolerate it for very long but it's good exercise and distributes weight a little different.

Happy Bunny: they probably check for reflexes and look if his head will go both ways instead of just one. Some babies always prefer one side and that may cause problems with skull development or neck muscles later on, so most pediatricians look at that when they pull the baby up. Also they check for hip symmetry when they flip them over o their tummy, asymmetric butt cheeks or one longer leg may mean that there may be some problems with the hips (which is common ans easy to fix in most cases)

OMG I am so tired today! We took Ben to the fair and he loves riding horses! He is not afraid at all to feed them, kiss them or pull their ears. :D It's so much fun to have a toddler, so much to do but it's also really tiring right now to keep up with him.

Hey everybody. sorry I've not been very active here, I'll be crazy busy until the end of the year finishing school. Only 6 weeks to go!

Sebas is doing great, has been walking since 11 months. Not saying a lot though, just ma-ma and da-da and something that sounds like nnnhhh (no) and ba for bye. He's transitioning to the toddler room at his day care, which is quite an event!

Vi, not sure if you saw my post about dulce de leche back then, but yes, you can make dulce de leche easily with leche condensada. 1 hour boiling the unopened can, turn it half way through the cooking.

On tummy time: I second the laying the baby on you. a lot less fuzzing, and nothing stimulates baby more than getting to see mommy's face :luv:

love the pics, Lisa. How's everybody? nothing new here. ben is growing well, he's a full time job. He's always wired, running and talking non-stop.

I hope everybody is well.

Nessa, is Ben going to be Obi wan this halloween? So is Sebas! I need to modify the costume though because the smallest I found was 4t, but it looks easy to do :) I'm still deciding wheter I'll dress up too or not

Justin wants to be a "budget ninja" (wear a black tshirt  )

goofy husband

Caro

Jona is going to be a golfer, it looks too cute. We will be in San Francisco for Halloween with hubbie's family...

We have so much going on all the time... And all of us have a cold, Jona is only coughing here and there but hubbie and I were pretty sick. Yuck! I spent even a morning in the ER for fluids and IV Zofran, I couldn't stop throwing up... That was after a super busy day, which seems to be too much on me right now. It's easier said than done when the docs say take it easy, hm, yeah, how does one do that without family, a housekeeper or babysitter please?!

Saturday was so busy as we purchased our new car, yeah, a Toyota Sienna 2011. I totally love that car, it is great for families. I'm also happy to have it since it has AWD and we have to drive to Denver when Eloise is born... It snows quite often around here and it's been a couple times that hubbie couldn't take the Hyundai Accent to work since it has no AWD (it is our small, non-gas-guzzling commuter car). I had to get up early then and take him to work in our old Explorer! The weather is just horrible here, I can't wait til 2013 when the assignment/commitment is over, yeah!

Mommies: has anyone had to receive a Rubella shot during pregnancy (the MMR)? I am soooo screwed. The hospital offered me a job and NY state requires all healthcare workers to be immune to measles and rubella. And guess what. I need a rubella booster. They did a titer test and apparently the rubella titer wasn't sufficient. The problem is- they don't know that I am pregnant. and it doesn't really matter. All I know is that rubella vaccine is a NO-NO during pregnancy. So that would mean I can't work. Now I googled the whole thing and found some different opinions on that. But the FDA says they do not advise pregnant people to get that shot.

I signed my contract today. I just want to cry. The nurse said she would clear me medically but I'd have to get that shot by Nov.1st.

I am also pissed off at my OB office. They drew that titer just a few weeks ago and told me everything was fine. I don't think it could wear off that fast!

I had my last test about a year ago and everything was fine! I'm so upset...

:( Stef im so sorry. Is there a way it could be wrong and you could get retested? I personally would not get the MMR when pregnant, but im also scared to get a flu shot. Have you asked your OB for advice? What are your other options? Is there a way to only get a booster for rubella and not measles and mumps? IDK if that makes it better or if its even possible but something to think consider. I hope things work out for you whichever way you choose. Ill be thinkin of ya girly <3

Budget Ninja!! That's so funny, I was walking through none other than Wal-Mart, and saw a black T-shirt that said "budget ninja." I was a bit confused but now it makes sense

I agree with the tummy time thing. Anna HATED tummy time, so I never made her do it. I'd lay her on my belly and that's it. She is super strong now and does push-ups ( that's what Luis says anyway) and can sit up all by herself.

Kelly: thanks girl. I am so crushed. My OB called me back and they said that the blood they drew just a few weeks ago said that I am in fact IMMUNE to rubella. They said they thought it is really odd that I am not immune now. It can wear off but they said it is unlikely to wear off in just 3 weeks. But- my OB said absolutely NO MMR shot during pregnancy and if I was really not immune then my chances are very slim to find a job in my prefession until after the baby is born. There is no waiver in NY state for this vaccine.

So I am going to pick up a copy of my blood results from my OB and take it to the occupational nurse at the hospital and hopefully she clears me or at least draws my blood again for a re-take. My measles and mumps titers weren't back yet so I am just hoping that when they come in they will be fine to back up my case.

I just don't know why everything has to be the hard way for me. :(
